In this video I explained information and systems. I went ahead to talk about information systems, components of information systems, media types used in presenting information, types of information systems, attributes of a good information system and the role of information in a society.
What is Information?
Information can be defined as a processed and organized data that is meaningful and on which decisions and actions are/can be based.
What is a System?
A system can be defined as a collection of components that work together towards a common goal. The objective of a system is to receive inputs and transform these into outputs.
What is Information System?
Information system can be defined as a set of interrelated components working together to collect, process, store, retrieve and provide information for decision making.

1. Text
2. Graphic images or pictures

Types of Information Systems
1. Transaction Processing Systems
2. Office Automation Systems
3. Knowledge Work Systems
4. Management Information Systems
5. Decision Support Systems
6. Executive Support Systems
Advantages of Transaction Processing Systems
1. Real time processing of transaction is available.
2. Multiple processing of transaction is available also known as batch processing.
3. There is reduction in processing time, lead time and order cycle time.
Disadvantages of Transaction Processing Systems
1. Initial setup cost is high.
2. Work comes to a halt when the system breaks down.
Advantages of Office Automation Systems
1. Allows an organization to become virtually paperless and fully digital.
2. Greater security and predictability of processes.
3. Forces an organization to experiment and define what is important for automation.
Disadvantages of Office Automation Systems
1. Initial investment costs may hinder the organization from automating processes.
2. Employees will become reliant on automated / electronic processes.
Advantages of Knowledge Work Systems
1. It is cost effective and efficient.
2. There is consistency in answers.
3. Solutions obtained from Knowledge Work Systems are explanatory.
Disadvantages of Knowledge Work Systems
1. Unfortunate resignation of the knowledge worker.
Advantages of Management Information System
1. It provides relevant information for facilitating planning and timely control.
2. Data is available in a summarized form which minimizes information overload.
3. There is ease in measuring performance which encourages decentralization in an organization.
Disadvantages of Management Information System
1. It requires constant monitoring of sensitive data.
2. Quality of output depends on the quality of input.
Advantages of Decision Support System
1. It improves the performance and effectiveness of the user.
2. It allows for faster decision-making.
3. It reduces the time taken to solve problems.
Disadvantages of Decision Support System
1. Users give too much emphasis and control to the system.
2. It may reduce skills in staff because they become over dependent on the system.
Advantages of Executive Support System
1. It enhances personal thinking and decision making.
2. It has the ability to analyze trends.
3. It helps companies to identify their performance early.
Disadvantages of Executive Support System
1. It has limited functionalities.
2. It is hard to quantify benefits.
Attributes of a Good Information System
1. Information has to be relevant.
2. Information has to be accurate and reliable.
3. Information has to be useful.
4. Information has to be timely.
5. Information has to be complete.
The Role of Information in Society
It keeps people informed on current issues.
2. It enables people have facts for decision making.
3. It guides people in decision making.
4. It guides people in problem solving.
5. It facilitates plans for development.

Thank you, sir . I am also an elective ict teacher. The last component of information systems is network/ Internet. .. in most instances, our I. S will h consist of multiple devices and many users , therefore, devices have to be connected for the users to share the available resources. Eg. During form 1 admission, user1 will be entering students' biodata , while user2 will be taking the pictures and editing the pictures. At the end of the day , all the data will be stored on the school server . Hence, network / internet is an important component of information systems. Thank you ..
