Man, we've come a long way! I grew up living on a boat about half every year back through the 70's. You could paint fiberglass but 1) It wasn't a good idea and 2) It wasn't even remotely going to be permanent! And when that paint job started going bad, your boat looked like it had been raised from a 20 fathom grave. Looks good in black.... I may go a deep blue but honestly, until this vid, I never even thought about getting away from the stock white.
Hey Paul, BM Boatworks did a great job on her. There is a new dark blue Com-Pac 23 on my dock. It looks classic. I hope to meet the owner sometime. My last big boat was a 30' Tahiti Ketch, also painted black. It's my color for my trucks, boats and tuxedos.
Its looking great! I picked up a 84 Mark2 last year that I'm trailer sailing (on trailer for winter that is). Of interest to your viewers may be the solid core design, concrete ballast, and the fact this boat is still manufactured today! Make sure you insert the pin to lock down the rudder - it steers much better locked in the down position. Really great boats. Would love to see that paint job in 1080p. A note about the outboard you were talking about. I have a 6hp tohatsu sailpro and it is certainly adequate for the boat and lightweight for the hp. If they sold an 8hp sailpro I would likely upgrade. I think it would provide more speed against current and less noise by running at lower rpm/other 8hp are too heavy. Looking forward to more videos.
Thanks for checking it out. They are great boats, getting better all the time. I believe Hutchins is the oldest American boat builder in continuous business. This is my second Com-Pac. I sailed my 16 intensely for years and sold it for a hundred bucks more than I bought it for. I've always wanted the 23 and found this one that was crying for help. I purchased my new outboard. Check it out in the next video, uploading it today. I really appreciate your comments. When it warms up, the sails go up. Sailing Galveston Bay videos coming soon.
Love. That black is super sexy! Visiting one of my sailing buddies yesterday... He reminded me his J24 is for sale. No thank you. I want a small boat I can stand up in while cooking my meals. Its not a tall order. Im only 5'2 😂
@@smallsailboatbigwater3959 Flicka 20 is my dream, but out of my price range unless I get super lucky. Even the ones as old as I am start at $10,000. 😳 If I were to pick a color, I'd go with a nice burnt orange. (Favorite color) Found a picture of one on the interwebs painted orange and it was super cute.
I saw an orange one for sale not long ago. It might not be the right color for most sailboats, but magically it works perfect for the Flicka. I’d buy one.
@@smallsailboatbigwater3959 that's probably the orange one I saw. Showed it to my friend who is most likely to adventure with me and she loved it. (We both love orange). Unfortunately, her husband is not wealthy and won't buy her a sailboat. 😉.
Thank God I had a star gazing Gilligan at the helm while traveling the ICW in the middle of the night in the Miami area he asked what are those red and green stars at 12 o'clock high ? I explained that they were not stars but the running lights of a 75' black hulled sailboat with out running lights on the deck that's about to run us over !!!!! It looks great I'm just not a big fan of that color on a sail boat !
Pretty much any color but white will be camouflage a bit. I was sailing Galveston Bay last Sunday Night watching the lunar eclipse around midnight. We got surprised by another sailboat that snuck up on us, I know the feeling. But it's got to be a black hull. Super bright LED running deck lights for me. Thanks for watching.
Yes it does look unbelievable!
I believe I agree. B&M Boatworks did it right. Thanks.
It is- looking Amazing! Love the jet black color for the hull… it is fantastic!
They did a great job. My old boat Zabidi had a black hull and I loved the look. Thanks Nicki!
Beautiful!
@@aliciapayne761 Thank you!
"Proper" boat...very nice!
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Looks great! I’m happy for you.
Thank you. So nice of you to say.
I’m working hard on the next video. I hope you come back and check it out.

My previous boat was black and hopefully my next as well. The Flicka 20 may be a good fit. How about a black one with bronze accents?

That's a good question. I'll have to do an expense breakdown video. Thanks!

Some say white is a bad hull color in windy conditions with the white crest of the waves blending in the boat. Great vid bro!
