Thanks Jim Miller Project! Yeah I was super into it while we were recording. I love their sound. The drummer has a jazz/Latin background and his dynamic style is interesting. He also switches between a tuned and detuned snare sometimes in the same song which is really cool.
@@Govier Yeah! That is a cool idea within a song to switch snare sounds. I think even if you move the snare drum it changes the overall tone. Anyway, I got back into analog recording myself thanks to vids by you, and Mike from 424 recording. Tape is so much better than DAW in my opinion. I still track within Logic but, I always run through tape afterwards… Keep the great informative vids coming my friend!
Thanks so much Peter. Drums were a 57 on overhead, random akg dynamic mic on kick, and electrovoice re-10 on snare. Those three mics were mixed through a mackie mixer and that mono signal was sent to an FMR RNC compressor before hitting the tape. Not much compression though. Maybe 2.5-3 ratio. I wanted to preserve his dynamics but I almost wish I had lowered the threshold and had it at like a 4:1 ratio for a bit more compression but it worked.
Love this. Can imagine it in a Tarantino movie.
Wow high praise! I’ll pass this on to the band. Thanks for stopping by
Great band! Love how it goes from light to heavy, and the Wah pedal on the guitar! Awesome recording!

Love it! 3 piece garage rock! A great recording right in the sweet spot of 4 track. How did you record the drums?

Thanks for yhe detail - i think you did a great job, and I'm sure the band would be happy with the result. All this and one track to spare...
