Again, hats off to Boris Palenovski. MOST of the early Angelina Jordan concert performances we are now blessed to enjoy were due to this early fan of hers traveling to and attending her performances on his own dime! Thanks again for these amazing treasures man.
Julie London's rendition is considered by many to be 'The Gold Standard'. That said, Angelina takes it to another level that I would call 'The Platinum Standard'.
As others have said Cry Me a River was first sung by Julie London. It was her signature song, but Angelina does justice to both Julie and the song. I've loved Angelina since I first saw her here on You Tube just days after her first appearance on Norways Got Talent. I supposed the link to the video popped up because of all my searches on Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington. At first I couldn't believe that a 7 year old girl could really sing Gloomy Sunday. Then I played the video, and she has been the daughter of my soul ever since. Congratulations for joining the Angels.
I still haven't got over the shock of seeing that - a 7-year old singing a jazz classic like that. She shouldn't even have known about that song, and yet she gives a performance that's damn near perfect and a soulful homage to the original. I could not believe my eyes and ears. She's shocked and surprised me many times since but that day she stopped time for a minute. 😎
This definitely was arranged to give off a James Bond type of feel to this performance! There is another version she did at a different concert and it sounds totally different, but much more jazzy, slow, and smooth, and that performance was awesome as well. It's quite amazing how she can do the same song, arrange it differently, and still sound outstanding. Nice reaction Nick!
That orchestra is Forsvarets Stabsmusikkorps, the Norwegian Armed Forces' Staff Band. Angelina made her first album (called "It's Magic") with them. Probably the best (and most reacted to song from back then was "It's a Man's World": ua-cam.com/video/HEm7tGrjIKk/v-deo.html Here is a playlist of most everything she did with them: ua-cam.com/play/PLySL7rbiavQdjF7FMPOr9GGRN6vOBV8Y6.html
It’s fun to go back and watch her feet tapping under her long dress during this performance. She does it the whole time! So glad you appreciate Angelina!
Hi, Nick! Thank-you for another grand reaction to Angelina. I first heard this song sung by Julie London in 1955, and it remained my favourite version until some 63 years later, Angelina decided to add it to her CD It's Magic, and Julie's performance was sent to second place. Doubt that anyone will capture my heart as much as Angelina has.
This was when she was 12yrs old but she did this song bat another concert when she was 11 yrs old and sang it totally different but it`s fantastic , just her and a small band
I also prefer the version from the year before, it is much more intimate and her voice stands out more and it seems somewhat jazzier to me. Nick should definitely check it out. To me, the kid is always at her best when there are fewer instruments to detract from her vocals!
Angelina is an incredible performer, technically excellent even at an early age! I think you checked out Dimash already, so now please watch Ms Diana Andikidinova, "Cant Help Falling in Love" will properly blow your mind! I'm so thrilled by all of these talented young artists, they have inserted themselves into our minds with wonder and joy! Love your reaction style, keep doing what you do sir!
Hope you noticed the clarinet player to the left as soon as she began the song...he is overwhelmed...what she does. Thanks Nick for another wonderful reaction with Angelina. 😍😍 Pretty cool when the musicians are taken aback by her.
Hi Nick 👋🏻Angelina is the best young female old Soul✨Voice for this music style !!! She brings back memories of the old great days and this music time she has definitely the perfect voice for this and many other genres !!!All the great old singer are in her body and her soul ✨and when AJ sings everyone comes back to life!!! I lived through this time and love❤ this Jazz and blues music!!! I was born in 1956 and am now 67 years young in August and have been a music expert for 51 years!! I have never see an Singer and Artist like Angelina !!! Great ,great comments as always Nick 👍👌👏good Man 👌have a great Weekend Nick greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭❤️✌️☮️😇👣👸🎙🎺🎷🎸🎼👋🏻🙋♂️
I can listen to her all day long, too, Nick. Low or high. Whichever genre. No matter the instrumentation (or without any musical backing at all). Waiting for her EP to finally drop is kind of like torture; I feel like a 10 year old kid in mid-December anticipating Christmas morning. 😆 Thanks for returning for more Angelina, Nick. Always enjoy your reactions!
This concert is for the charity album, "Its Magic" that she did in collaboration with the Norwegian Armed Forces Staff Band. Recorded when she was 11, in this performance she is 12. She did a phenomenal rendition of James Brown's, "Its a Man's World" in the same concert.
If you listen to Ella Fitzgerald then you will understand the influence. By the way, there is a reason that “It’s Magic” has been in and out of the top 10 on the iTunes top 100 jazz album chart, this is no ordinary orchestra, it’s the Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces, and Angelina is not just an ordinary singer, and it’s proved by this album they made together.
I am pretty sure she is pre teen here. Which makes that rich low vibrato even more astounding. Its performances like this got her called the jazz princess. Norway is a country where there are regular jazz festivals. They know their jazz.
This arrangement just has James Bond written all over it. The band is the Forsvarets Stabsmusikkorps and this concert was to promote their album It's Magic, celebrating 200 years of this military band. You might like to compare this version with an altogether more bluesy version Angelina performed a year earlier at the Proysenfestivalen. Great reaction, as always. Thanks, Nick!
Best voice, man or woman, I have ever heard. My best guess is that there has never been or will be anyone that would be considered her equal. This is a divine gift.
Absolutely phenomenal performance from the Queen of soul and Jazz, checkout Angelina singing ( Its A Mans World) at the same concert in Norway 🇳🇴, great reaction thanks 🙏
This concert is celebrate the release of their album It's Magic a collaboration of AJ and the Norwegian Armed Forces Staff Band she did it to support them.
I totally agree. She will be the next Bond movie composer and singer (much like Billie Eilish and Finneas did on the last one). Of course, only if she wants to. This woman will always be in the driver's seat. And boy oh boy, am I glad to be a passenger!
Thanks Nick for another great reaction to Angelina. I love her voice singing anything and everything but she is for me the jazz Queen i hope at some point she records an album, Heaven 💗
She brings new light and life to old songs. Well said! So glad to see you catch up to this stellar performance of Angelina's with the band she made a record with. They are her fans too. I wish they could come to LA and play with her. Perhaps she'll go back to Norway and record with them again sometime. Thanks for another AJ reaction!
I have seen everything this girl has done. What a unique talent. Bare feet, no makeup, old school mic, black and white. It is not about her it is about her music. Her voice is a slave to the music. Just the way it should be!! PS nice job as always Nick.
What were you doing at 11 or 12 years old? Here she is performing with the Norwegian Military Band, not an orchestra (no soft strings). I think this is one of the songs included in the album "It's Magic," a collaboration between Angelina and the band and released when she was 12. It can be purchased on all of the usual music outlets. She frequently sings songs from her repertoire, but rarely in the same way. That keeps you guessing what you will hear next.

@@massimoseganti8687 She recorded the album, It's Magic, with this & all the other songs from this concert, about 7 months earlier when she was still 11, so that probably accounts for the confusion between 11 & 12.
Great reaction and commentary! Every time I start watching this video, I'm thinking, "Okay, goosebump time again!" She's 12 here and just utterly amazing with her range, vocal power, and inflections. And, yes, I agree about the James Bond vibe! If you haven't yet done it, you should react to her singing the Bond song "Diamonds Are Forever," I believe at this same venue at either 11 or 12. It's amazing!
It said right on the video that it was June 16, 2018, which would make her 12 and about a half...Going on 43. The band is the Norwegian national orchestra KORK, I believe
The band is "The Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces" - "Forsvarets Stabsmusikkorps" in Norwegian. A military professional wind band. KORK, or "Kringkastingsorkesteret" in Norwegian is basically a symphony orchestra run by NRK the Norwegian state funded broadcasting corporation.

In my opinion, that’s how the song should be: sultry, smooth, and sophisticated-and 11 year old Angelina knocks it out of the park. This military band did a great back up for her James Brown cover of It’s a Man’s World, but this doesn’t fit for me.
