I read his book and thought "God he keeps bringing up George Harrison, might as well check out The Beatles." Now I'm a huge Beatles fan. Thanks Eric!
Who are the Beatles? Was George in a band before he wrote the pirate song?
@@carlglick1990 He was. It turns out that some guy named Paul was also in that same band even before he got involved with Wings.
might as well check out the Beatles.
I’ll always miss George Harrison, but I’m really happy Eric idle is still around.
DarkHorse17 what a nice comment
MultiPolonius He’s the greatest along with all the rest of the guys
George Harrison was not only one of the most famous people in the world, he also was one of the smartest and kindest people in the world...❤️
RIP dear George ❤️
I knew he was friends with George Harrison, but I didn’t know he had been close friends with Robin Williams. Doesn’t surprise me though. 😊
And David Bowie had a great sense of humor. I’ve seen him in interviews where he was really funny.
RIP to George, Robin and David. So grateful Eric is still with us.
Bowie is very enjoyable to listen to in interviews...even if he didn't make another record it would still be great to hear him talk about anything...and he did a good impression of Mick Jagger..'What?...and look like you'...very funny.
He was an amazing raconteur and so quick and witty. I, too, love his interviews. Always entertaining, extremely sharp and gifted.
The Monty Python guys were known as The Beatles of Comedy back in the day. We all owe both groups a massive debt of gratitude for what they left us with.
I can go on forever saying nice things about Eric Idle but want to comment that wow, an interviewer with real intelligence and real class ... such a breath of fresh air in this new media age. Definitely will keep an eye out for Sam Jones from now on.
Eric is brilliant, he wrote mostly by himself in Python.
George Harrison was so much more than " a Beatle. " He wisely said, " The Beatles will exist without us. " How true is that? In 2020, the third generation of their original fans are discovering the magical music these four lads from Liverpool created. And George showed himself to be an entrepreneur and humanitarian after the Beatles disbanded. As well, he influenced not only Eric but many more people with his philosophical outlook on life.
Love you Eric being George’s friend
Two of my favorites Eric and George
Each the youngest of their respective groups, and also vitally important to their groups' success.
I love Eric. Very creative smart guy.
I grew up listening to and watching both The Beatles and Monty Python. Blessed...lucky...or both!
"You lucky, lucky, bastard..."
You left out The Rutles!
George H was convinced the spirit of the Beatles moved on to the Pythons and you can very much believe it. Great hits and great albums one decade and then great sketches and great movies the next decade...all in the space of 12 years or so from both camps.....it's freaking amazing.
Yes, me too, they were fan-bloody-tastic eh?
@@barnabyaprobert5159 Ah, yes.
As long as someone remember's you .... you're never truly gone
But like a parrot you would be no more. Ceased to exist....
The reality is for most of us on the planet we will be forgotten a couple of hundred years from now. The exceptions, the famous and the infamous..Einstein, probably most or even all of the Beatles, Elvis..possibly.....The Pythons...possibly....and the truly awful..Trump..possibly...Hitler....very likely.
@@terrythekittie dont forget Obama in the truly terrible.
If he is remembered 200 years from now it will be as a President who tried to end America's dumb gun regulations, that or as a president caught between an idiot and a psychopath.
@@tompaul2591 🤣😂👍
this was very touching...i lost my friend whose was a fellow musician, and also a guitar player...so i know the feeling of loss experienced when they're gone...its great that he can talk about it now and let the world know how good a person George was...really cool
Fun fact: George Harrison helped finance Life of Brian
'He wasn't The Quiet One, he was...'
"The most anyone's every paid for a cinema ticket." -- Eric Idle (on George mortgaging his house to finance the movie)
ua-cam.com/video/rDFdcfRAaCg/v-deo.html
He had to, he wanted to see the movie.
Well there goes my idea for Dookie Productions.
He COMPLETELY financed it. (thank you George)
Loved this interview. Absolutely one of the best!!
Fascinating. I want to hear more. I guess i'll have to buy eric's book.
Get it on audio. He reads it.
Idle's discussion of Harrison's "presentism" and insistence on remaining always aware of the "Four Noble Truths", especially the 3rd, that "it is our nature to die" and we cannot escape death, and the Fourth, that we are our karma (the product of all of our thoughts, words, and deeds; that we are our continuation), is evidenced by Harrison's continuing influence on Idle and Python fandom. George may no longer be alive, yet his karma lives on.
Idle is my idol.
M. C. B.
I remember using this joke in year 9 back in 2000.
Splitting heirs is my favourite film of his, if you’ve never heard of it I highly recommend seeing it
We must have seen two different movies....I love Eric and the Pythons but that movie was a shocker....Nuns on the Run however,..very funny movie... and his Python sketch as the 'visitor' takes some beating.
I pre ordered this book months ago. I can’t wait to read it!
Time devours us all.
Eric looks like McCartney now :D
Audiobook comes out today! So glad I happened upon this.
It's excellent on audio. He reads it.
Thanks for uploading.
Thanks Eric Idle, happy to see you.
George..what a deeply spiritual Being he was, and absolutely human at the same time!
i am Impressed and inspired. Om...
"deeply spiritual Being"? Did we watch different interviews? Eric Idle described George Harrison as very rational and down to Earth in this video and you took it to mean "spiritual"? We must have different dictionaries where I live, big nose!
+Redbeardian Uhh... do you know anything about Harrison? He WAS spiritual. He was into the Hindu religion and incorporated it into his music. I'm sure that's what the OP was referring to. And wtf...."big nose"? Douche.
8rr725. Oh that makes sense. Thought it was a reference to something Eric Idle said in this interview sounding like George Harrison was spiritual, which I wasn't picking up on.. The "big nose" thing is homage to Eric Idle, Monty Python., Life of Brian.
Rest in peace George and David.
Great lesson
Thanks Eric x
when Robin made his division decision I was literally unable to form a sentence...Finally RIP magical Rob
I wonder if The Rutles will ever get back together...
Now that Leggy Mountbatten has passed on can't see it happening.
It will never be a reunion of the original Rutles lineup, Stig died in 66.
I hope not.
He's right. I had some good friends I grew up with that are gone. Start living or start dying.
Wonderful. 🤍
Didn't know Mac From IASIP was so insightful.
beautiful
❤️
Makes sense
💖
Death is depressing. I'm struggling with that eventuality, every day.
Remember what Eric said, “What have you got to lose? You come from nothing, you back to nothing. What have you lost? Nothing!”
Tidbit: David Bowie and Peter Frampton went to school together.
I am pleased to say that George Harrison has come to visit me several times. He is a very good guy. He has given me great advice.
Can you share some of his advice. How's he been doing these days?
"That's the funny thing I take from your book": said as if he was talking about his last visit to the dentist. Sheesh.
This is it, we all die regardless of how marvelous and successful we become, in memori mori - that wad of cash aint going to help you, see you on the other side chaps
He got to jam with George that would have been a highlight alright.
Ah, George. Such a weird, wonderful guy. His bandmates (and audience) didn't know what they had.
Like the Waco Kid, when Bart told him that a man drinking like that is going to die, I have only one question. When?
Unfortunately, the secret link leads us to "404 Page Not Found".
It is difficult for me to see Eric Idle and not think of the Ant Circus stretch and lol
Say no more(sorry!!)
Strange and slightly morbid that GH seemed fixated on death. Wouldn't've thought that.
I think the point George was making, was stay grounded. Just because you're rich and famous, doesn't mean you're any different than anyone else.
who is this guy interviewing him, and why is he on camera and interrupting Eric Idle so much?
Is trump dead yet ?
Hope not.
Robert allan : why? So he can keep fucking up everything ?
So you are a libtard ?, I understand your ignorance now.
Not yet. But he will be. Some day. One of the problems with dying is never quite knowing exactly WHEN to expect it. If you're hoping he'll die while in office, I wouldn't hold my breath on it, or you might be dead sooner rather than later. But the good news is that if you die sooner, the sooner you won't have to worry about Trump.
I hope he goes on to be elected again as president, best thing that ever happened to the USA.
This is about as boring as I've ever seen Eric Idle. And I blame the interviewer.
