The way the education system is declining and specialising in bullying and indoctrination, a compatible homeschool study is a temptation. Home is better when it in regards to literacy and numeracy which mainstream school has teachers that don't have time for them. Parents can no longer depend on institutions.
The best thing I ever did when starting homeschooling ten years ago, was taking time to deschool, myself as well as my kids, taking time to get rid of all the public education mindsets that were holding me back.
I wish there were brick and mortar curriculum bookstores. I would much rather have something physically in my hands that I can look through. Clicking on a miniscule number of sample pages or reading a brief, vague summary online is not enough for me. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong websites or maybe those real stores do exist but I haven't found them. I should mention that this is our first year and boy howdy is it overwhelming to wade through all of the ins and outs! I've been sporadically binging homeschooling videos and today your channel is the one I'm sifting through :-)
I totally agree! It’s so hard to tell from the few sample pages! Some areas have homeschool consignment stores where you can do that! A lot of moms go to a homeschool convention/conference in the spring where they usually have big curriculum fairs open as part of it to be able to browse. It can be super helpful if you’re able to go to one of those next year - not just for curriculum but for the wisdom and inspiration from all the speakers! We put together a curriculum fair of our own this year at our church and we just had a bunch of moms bring in what they use and then everyone got to browse all the tables and flip through books. So something like that’s an option too, or just asking friends if you know anyone who homeschools if you can look through their resources. Best wishes!!
Thanks for your video! It made me feel calmer about homeschooling my daughter. We are going to keep her out of public school entirely due to the problems we have encountered. This has really helped.
Maybe other reasons why people homeschool. I have three neurodivergent kids and I want to be more hands on with them and make sure they are getting the tools they need to succeed. I’m planning to start next year if this year continues to not go well.
Currently in this same position! Pulling our son this week after years of being pushed to put my son on medication for his Hyper ADHD. Good luck mamas!
I JUST TODAY officially with Drew my two. I m done! No more anxiety ridden children.❤ Don t know quite where to begin, but, made the first step by notifying the school. Pray for me y all. (Single parent "Nana" raising twin 8y old grand daughters by way of adoption. ❤
Thank you all for posting about homeschool and your thoughts/where you are in the process. My son turned 4 in December and is in Pre-K 3. He's is on the autism spectrum. We're considering homeschooling him for at least PreK 4 because the school won't provide the therapies that he needs, and he's already leaving school an hour or 2 early for me to take him to speech.
I came across your channel as I stress out looking for help on my first time homeschooling! You hit it on the dot, it is overwhelming 😱 I thought it would be simple to pick a curriculum and then just follow it. I’m starting to see that is not the case! Thank you for taking time to post videos to kind of help moms like me in need of a push and guidance 🙏
hey i was wondering if a kid is in a public school can he switch to home school in august and beginning of the year?? and how would homeschool work in home@@TheEclecticHomeschooler
@@murdamuzik9962 Yes, you can pull your child out of public school at any time. You would probably need to submit some kind of form to formally and legally withdraw them from public school. You can check your states laws at hslda.org.
i also have a question do you have to pay for hoemschool because i assume not because public schools are free to enroll students@@TheEclecticHomeschooler
Love your helpful videos! Also the cat in the background playing was adorable in this video. :) And I love the outdoor setting! We are homeschooling for the first time in 5 years. I have 4 children also and so many of your ideas since we started this year have been incorporated into our days already. It's going pretty smoothly so far. Your style fits mine pretty much so it's awesome how I came across your channel ! You are an inspiration 🙂
I’m so excited for you! Kindergarten is so much fun! We often make it more complicated than it has to be (been there 🙋🏼♀️). I made a whole video about homeschooling the younger years. Hope it helps you find some peace! My Advice For Homeschooling Young Children ua-cam.com/video/XlMbt2L_UIc/v-deo.html
I really want homeschooling my daughter but my first language is not English therefore, I study English for years and practice it everyday, but my plan could be to have some extra curricular activities.
What a good video. I don’t see choosing the homeschool style as important though. I wasted so much time researching that early on and definitely don’t recommend doing that! Lol Love your background.
That’s why I said it optional but helpful. It can definitely help when choosing curriculum. But certainly something that can be identified later. Blessings!
I love that you are wanting to develop yourself more! That’s so great!! High school should never be the end of learning, it’s just the beginning. An easy approach to a truly great education is simply finding a book by a reputable author about something you want to learn about and dive in. Documentaries are amazing for growing in knowledge and enjoy the process of learning too. UA-cam is king to help you learn how to do just about anything. 😃 I’m so excited for you, with that mindset to want to learn, there’s nothing standing in your way to being successful! Best wishes!
Very encouraging video, thank you! There is one question that I can’t seem to find the answer to - how do I convert learning experiences into a measurable assignment/lesson that is needed for record keeping and assessment of progress? Ive heard statements like “homeschool is a lifestyle; there’s learning everywhere. When you are cooking, exploring nature etc”. Do I plan these experiences in line with a curriculum? Of course I plan on choosing a curriculum when the time comes, but what about spontaneous outings (museum, zoo) that are not in a curriculum? Do I need to create a lesson around that activity? Say I want to take my kids to see a waterfall at a national park - how would I turn that experience into measurable knowledge? I hope my question makes sense. Thank you.
Hi, this is a great question. I wonder if you could incorporate a writing assignment where the kids write (or draw if kinder/preschool age) about their experience. Or respond with art. A research report on waterfalls, etc. for older students.
Thank you for your video! May I please ask you and I hope is not to much for you but a video sharing what do you specifically teach a 5th, 3rd and 1st graders? I am not talking about state standers. I will like about "You" specific 🙂 will be very helpful to know what other parents do. I appreciated! ☺💌☺ But if is to much I will understand. I see that the state ask for a lot of things but I was wondering if we have to do all those things or we just do what we parents think it is ok. Sometimes I think if everything what they said our kids should learn it is very important. I hope make sense what I said. Have a blessed day! and thank you again!
If the state requires certain subject, you want to make sure you're covering them all in some way. But that doesn't mean you have to have a full curriculum for each one, especially for the youngest children. Ofter, just checking out a few books from the library about a topic and reading and discussing them is enough. You might want to find curriculum that you rotate through in coming years to cover topics more thoroughly, but you don't have to go super in depth every year on every subject they say is required. Some things, like art appreciation, for example, could be covered by a field trip to an art museum (in person or online) and discussing what you like about certain pieces of art. That might lead to looking up that artist more and trying to recreate a copy yourself - and that would be enough. Hope this helps!
Hi so I'm currently homeschooling my Kindergartener and I'm still feeling lost and overwhelmed yes I am afraid of the fact that I was never trained to teach. I'm also not the brightest person ( I'm not afraid to admit this) so I really don't know if I'm doing this homeschooling thing right. We are now in the month of January and I've hardly done work . I've started easypeasy just to help give me some direction now I feel awful as if he should be way ahead starting lesson 1 in January. Can you please give me some advice and encouragement I really don't want to send my child to school especially on a school bus.
It may be different state to state so check out your state on the HSLDA website. Ours requires we teach 180 days. I keep a one page calendar that has each month of the year on it and mark the days that we do school and total them up on the bottom of the page, then a copy of the calendar goes into each of my kids’ records at the end of the year. Some just keep a list of how many days per month they do.
In most cases, you can file an affidavit or declaration of intent to homeschool with your local school district. Every state is different and you can check out what your state requires here: hslda.org/legal Best wishes! 🌟
@TheEclecticHomeschooler I'm in California. I been reading it all but still somewhat confused. Maybe I'm not smart enough to teach my child. I'm overwhelmed and feeling down.
My daughter is in the 7th grade and I want to start homeschooling her. Can I start mid year, or do I need to start after this school year ends? Thank you!
Usually, yes! Every state is different, so you would need to check with your school district. Often it requires filing paperwork to formally withdraw your child from school and submitting a form to establish that you will be providing home based education. Hslda.org has some great info! Best wishes!

If i dont cook everything we dont eat it. 🤷🏼♀️ Is my plate too full now?
Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that! How scary! I don’t know your situation, so I couldn’t say if you have too much on your plate. I can say that the sacrifice to homeschool is worth it! The time we get with our kids is precious. I definitely encourage you to check out hslda.org. They have info about each state’s homeschool laws and many articles to help get started. Often, it would require talking to your school district and submitting paperwork to formally withdraw your child from school, and paperwork to indicate you are going to provide home based education. Or you could choose to do a parent partnership program, where they are still part of the school system, yet able to do classes online or lessons at home. There are many options available! I would suggest looking for a community homeschool group on Facebook or somewhere else where you could find support and ask questions specific to your region. Wishing you the best!
