I built one of these and even the most recent iteration that you can buy know has barely changed. Simple. There is a huge support community for building these things. We are very nice. :)
Back in the days when Discovery Channel produced great shows there was an English series that was called a car is born with Mark Evans that followed him step by step building a AC Cobra replica. I always wanted to build my own after that :) looking forward to following this build!
YES YES YES!!!!! I had a co-worker that did a Factory 5 Cobra 427...I wanted one ever since. I know it will never happen, but now I can live vicariously through you. Yes, Shelby did file suit, mainly because they didn't ask him for permission. He even said in an old interview "I love that they made this, but instead of asking for permission, they begged for forgiveness"...or something to that effect...
100%!!!! I am going to buy a kit for my father and I in the next year or so. As his retirement project with me and my son.... Can't wait to see this develop so I can learn the issues.
3:21 Putting a glass body on a Fiero is a kitcar that's still a fiero underneath. This is a tube frame roadster that is most often assembled with some ford suspension and drivetrain components. ...although it does appear to be one that was stored underwater.
@@zombieblaster5754 YOUCH!! That's one thing I dont skimp on - I've seen trucks fall off of lifts more than once, and my buddy's uncle died when a vehicle fell on him and crushed him... I've always taken extra steps when it comes to lifting/jacking a vehicle - I'm not a Safety Sally, but this is one area that makes me nervous!!
Many years ago, Ferrari’s owner said something about the Jaguar E type within these lines: “This is the most beautiful car I have seen or ever made” or something within those lines. Well, I think the cobra was introduced about the same time. To me, and it is just my opinion, the Cobra was the most beautiful thing at the time. And it is still a stunning car to look at. Just look at that car. If you are in UK and if you know Beaulieu National Motor Museum, they have a blue AC cobra on display. Every time I visit Beaulieu Museum I take a few minutes to look at this car. Absolutely stunning. Really look forward for this project.
Vintage Air -- they will *definitely* be able to get you something that fits in that car. Jay Leno uses it for all of his cars that he puts A/C into, and I almost put one into my '68 Galaxie. The only reason I didn't is that I ran out of money and A/C was the first thing I had to cut from the build. They ain't cheap, but they're damn good from everything I've read and heard about them.
When I went to school for Automotive technology, we built a Factory Five cobra and it is amazing. If a few students that barely know what they are doing then someone that is experienced and has built a fox body build then you are more than capable.
Im building a Factory Five 33 Hot Rod. Great company and endless results. Its just amazing how a 33 Hot Rod performs like a modern Mustang. Built, not Bought. Thats the best part.
On the windshield side supports make sure you use the short SS screws or you'll brake the glass. The (Crack ) on the top of the fender is the mold parting flange.
There's a huge support community out there for these builds, Eric. Don't hesitate to ask, either here or on the FFCARS or Factory Five forums. Also, reach out to Jeff Kleiner near you for the body/paint.
This is definitely a win win for EricTheCarGuy. First, he gets to work on this amazing kit car. Second, he is probably getting paid good money to do it. Third, the increase revenue from UA-cam will definitely be nice. Fourth, he is helping a fellow car lover get his dream car rolling down the road.
Hey Eric, you helped me alot to build my SBF 347 stroker from the block up with no experience. It was part of my FFR MK4 build. It's awesome you decided to do this project. I have mine to liscence and titled. Waiting for body and paint this spring.
Will be a great series to watch! As you know all too well, one of the worst things is picking up a project half way through!! But we know your the guy to get it finished.
For a short minute there, i genuinely thought, this was Mustie1's channel and was wondering why in the heck he didn't give me cake. Then, all the cylinders started firing and i realized. Realized that this is going to be awesome. I know you got burned from all the old builds, but i for one missed your builds, so this is going to be fun.
I'll watch this series with interest Eric. I also picked up a 427 Cobra kit in similar finish a year ago of which the previous owner also died before he finished it. Just got it onto my shop and on one of my hoists for a winter project. Has a narrowed 9" ford with 15x13.5 tires, 4 wheel disc, coilovers, aftermarket Mustang ii front. Building a 408W stroker, Tremec TKO 600 etc.
Was initially hoping for the mid-engine kit that goes with a boxer engine, but this has far exceeded what I was hoping to see after work! Can't wait to see more from you, Sir.
A kit car... Truly a test of persistence and motivation... On the surface level it seems relatively simple... The devil is in the details... Good luck and looking forward to seeing more!!!
I just stumbled across this video and was looking forward to binge watching the series.... Then I noticed it was uploaded today! I guess I’ll have to wait. Until then I’ll enjoy your back catalogue of videos.
I'm 90% done building a factory five mk4! Amazing to see you working on one. The Fairmont project helped me a lot with the factory five. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be glad to try and help!
That "crack" on the fender is NOT a crack. The earlier Factory Fives were notoriously bad with their mold seams. It will take a lot of digging and filling to get it right (that's the fun, isn't it?). Looking forward to following your build.
I built an FFR Daytona Coupe. Don’t expect much from the instructions. Internet forums are the best resource. Good luck! Also 1990 5.0 HO pistons are tough TRW forged. Typically, honing, and new rings and your good to go as long as the taper is reasonable.
I'm going to add another comment in regards to the cracked fiberglass you pointed out. That part is one of the mold parting lines and yes, as you mentioned it should be filled with a fiberglass mix. These bodies were made of vinyl ester and should be filled with a vinyl ester fiberglass mix. 3M does make a marine mix that most of us have used. Lots of history on those parting lines on ffcars.com.
I had a red one of these with a Ford Fe and Toploader about 15 years ago. Somebody tried to break in the shop and take it in the middle of the night. They failed. Cool project indeed. Kit cars are great !
I'm excited about seeing more on this build. Seems strange not to run a brake booster or out in a stero for a driver though. So, you're assembling this for the owner? That's really cool man. Can't wait to see more.
With the right master cylinder, you really don't need power brakes. The smaller the master cylinder bore, the more psi at the wheels. Yes, I'm doing this for one of my viewers. I'm honored he's trusting me with this car. This should be a lot of fun. Thanks for the comment.
Nice project. I believe the donor used was actually an 87-90 Lincoln mark 7. The accessory brackets, AOD, shifter handle, 5-lug, wheels and rear disk brakes are clues. Those rear disks are the Mark 7 style. Some slight differences, but essentially a Mustang.
Like all of your videos, I will definitely be watching & waiting for the progress😉 It's awesome to see you take another project car & share the knowledge with us👍 Stay Safe👍
Man, this is gonna be good! I can't wait to see this baby take shape. A brand new project that we can all be a part of - great ideas, great content, great company. Still the best on UA-cam.
Thank you! I am looking forward to this one. I've always had a desire to build one. It's the next step toward building a car from the ground up. I hope to do that one day as well. Always great to see you. Have a great weekend.
This is an exciting project! I love FF and a few years ago I bought and started an Exocet (which is a cheaper kit car built around a miata platform with an emphasis on lightening a miata and increasing rigidity). Now the Exocet has just been collecting dust, 1/2 done, but want to finish that and then race it a bit, sell, and then buy a factory five kit - probably either this one right here or the Hot Rod Ford kit, both look awesome. Very excited to see you make some progress with this thing - hopefully it spurs some motivation for me to finish my own stuff!
There's a nice blue one a couple drives up and down 42 somewhat frequently. Maybe you've seen it. Pulled up with them at a light and I couldn't tell if they were complimenting or smack talking the S2000 over the exhaust note, but either way is good. Sweet looking car, looking forward to watching how it was put together.

If Factory Five wants some great PR, they'll be contacting Eric about this and seeing how they can help.
1. Weld in a jack/lift support
Those front supports 😳😬. Don’t want to see any “after” pictures!
I was actually thinking of making a modified lift pad with an extension on it. Need to find steel thick enough though.
@@ericthecarguy PLEASE!!! I foresee that slipping off the front and destroying it if not!!! Sketchy!!!
@@BAMAJiPS thats nowhere near as sketchy as you think. i lift trucks like that all the time

Fantastic news. As with other commenters here, I've also wanted to see a build in depth, and with ETCG I know we'll get a great overview. Celebrate!

I built mine in 2005, sold it in 2015. I still regret selling it. Life happens. Its a labor of love.
All the yes. I had a customer call me out to work on one of these and I had never heard of them. I wish more guys would do factory five builds.
