@@totomen666 nope. They are all the same genre: RPGs (role-playing, that is). I can even say Mass Effect or Dragon Age, which both are Action RPGs, have better romance than this one. Its just that Capcom is not specialized/focused in that domain.

Not every game has to have the most detailed and in-depth romance, like the first game it’s just not that important and isn’t a main aspect of the game.
Could have served to have upped the stakes if they had made it more important, though. They still featured the Dragon’s Bargain element of this world, which relies on the idea that the Dragon takes the person who means the most to the Arisen captive and potentially renders their life forfeit should the Arisen choose safety and wealth over choosing to do the right thing. But as the player, it can be hard to be immersed by a story that relies on dynamics like that when there is no significant emphasis on the protagonist’s relationship with their Beloved. This game made SOME improvements, but ultimately still has the exact same pitfalls.
I get that the gameplay experience (particularly the combat) is the priority with games like this. Doesn’t make the weak character writing any less weak. And if anything, it’s a missed opportunity that could have been used make the player even more invested than they may have been. The affinity system and how it affects the story almost seems to conflict with the kind of effect the kidnapping of the Beloved is supposed to have on the Arisen as a character, as well as in conflict with the level of prominence the Bargain has in the setting of Dragon’s Dogma as a whole. Dark Arisen in particular made it clear that the Dragon’s Bargain is laid out in every reality where there is a Dragon, with the same general circumstances, where the person taken is the most important person to each Arisen in each reality. It’s part of the order of each world, but the writers seem to treat it as unimportant to the story as it relates to the player character. Whereas in Dark Arisen, the man who becomes the Daemon of Bitterblack Isle is made so because the whole system of the Dragon's Dogma as a whole is so emotionally rending that he refuses to make a choice, and is turned into the monstrous Daemon at the behest of whatever greater powers dictate the rules of these worlds as punishment for refusing to play his part as the Arisen. All that was all because he cared too much about both his then current Beloved as well as the woman who became the Dragon in his world to do anything that would endanger either. Which was all relationship-focused character writing that made his story so much more engaging than our character's story from that game. And I'd argue the same is true for this one. The Beloved mechanic and associated story beats are still treated like afterthoughts, and that's just disappointing.
Don’t get me wrong, you have a point that not every game HAS to have a detailed romance. But it certainly would have helped this one if it did.
Why put it in the game then? Lol especially since it's supposed to be a big choice on weather or not the Arisen sacrifices his loved one at the end.... your love is a big part in the story but absolutely trash as gameplay.
@@micahmartin7759 I agree with this. The dragons bargain already felt kinda off in the first game if you didn't care for any of the characters, which was hard to do because most of em were shallow.
This got worse in the 2nd game, not just because the characters are still shallow, but because there is no special interaction with your beloved after the Dragon fight at all.

@jbirdapparel That would mean you might of already discover more secrets that wasn't written in any video game guides or discovered in youtube channels. I know because I have past experience playing DD1 for many hours and then watching it in youtube. Normally, you will see so many not discovering things and you could already be the right person to tell them about it. I am also sure you might even see the person you watched might not do what you did. When I discover anything unexpected, I tell them on it on the youtube comments. To give an example, I can bring Quina with me and fight that black hooded guy inside the Catacomb. By that point, Quina can receive hits but never lose health. She is immortal only in that 1 mission. Many may not have known about that. Your arisen can sneak around in the duke's castle at night in new game plus due to that body armor that Mirabelle gave in the previous game. She wanted the arisen to dress up like one of the Gran Soren guards so that they are not recognized as an arisen. That same trick also applies in the duke's castle. List of secrets can go on and on so I just only tell you about 2 as an example.

You can only make assumptions, which sucks. They could have at least left her in the brothel. Or let her appear in Bathal. But just like Ulrika her model vanishes after finishing the romance quest. Like: You did it, yay, now focus on the main quest and don't waste time with a used-up NPC.
In all fairness, the arisen in DD2 does not do marriage unlike DD1. Every sex your arisen goes through in DD2 is casual hook up. You were meant to jump from 1 relationship to another. Have you read the guide about how that brothel service got started? It is stated that Wilhelmina would be the one to hook your arisen up with that membership therefore, Wilhelmina does not go around acting jealous nor compete to have you. She also gives your arisen permission to explore your sexuality with other NPCs which means there is no such thing as cheating on Wilhelmina. Once you have that membership, your arisen have that chance to pay money for sex. I am sure Wilhelmina wanted your arisen to move on instead of being too attached to her. You even have options to turn your arisen bisexual because a man is also in line for a chance to collect the arisen's money and give that arisen sex and getting naked in bed together. So it is not just women.

As much as I enjoy detailed romance and fun scenes, some of y’all need to realize that not every game needs to have every feature. In fact if every RPG was just a BG3 clone we would all complain about how gaming feels like a checklist instead of individual games with difference. The game does others things very well. If you care more about romance and wish things were more like BG3 please go back to BG3. BG3 hands down might be game of the decade it’s amazing.

Fun fact if you go on killing spree in vernworth and if allard and Wilhelmina get in you’re and you kill them you can still do the quest to go into allard office, you’ll be attacked by the guard that accompanies
and once you got the document you don’t have to do Her little Cutscene
And lastly go to the Morgue revive her than go to the…playground and you’ll get unique dialogue at the start of the cutscenes and will give you the standard playground membership

There is more romance options other then Wilheimina and Ulrika. Your arisen also have options to pay money for sex. If you want more romantic options, your 3rd options is pay those women money for sex. There are going to be plenty of women waiting in line for a chance to collect the arisen's money for sex. Naughty Gaming also have a youtube video called Brothel & Getting Platinum Membership. In that, it shows that the arisen pays money to have sex. They will get naked in bed. Then after having sex with that one women, that arisen will come out of that room and pay money to have sex with a next woman and then cycle continues. That arisen will come out of the room and go like next and then another cycle continues. DD2 may not have the same rules as DD1 but the changes will include is the arisen in DD2 have a chance to have sex with multiple women. When the arisen pays money for sex, the arisen can have sex with them. When watching that video, I am already losing count on how many women that arisen is having sex with. So it is proven that romantic options do not stop at just 2 NPCs.
@@novarian8625 Beloveds do not ever seem to fight over you in DD2. You have options stating that you can romance Ulrika and Wilheimina in a same playthrough and Wilheimina is the one who can give you a Brothel membership card which can grant your arisen a power to take advantage of that service. The arisen pays money just to have sex with these different type of women. When using the Brothel Service, they don't fight to have you. If you wanted them to take you, all you have to do is pay them money. Love interest can only fight to have you in DD1 but these don't apply in DD2 because marriage don't exists for the arisen in DD2. The arisen in DD2 does casual hook up only. No commitment. No marriage.
Willehimina is the one who can give you that Myrmecoleon Card. With that card, you pay money to have sex with multiple women. So it is clear Ulrika and Willehimina will have sex with the arisen free of charge but those multiple women in that brothel services charges the arisen money for sex.

@@Elyrium42 to be fair, for most people the Arisen is just someone who commands the pawns and has a scar on their chest. Both are things the pretender could do, even if he faked both.
I would assume the king in DD2 must of stabbed himself or something just to make his scar look like an arisen so therefore fake being an arisen. As for Duke Edmun, I would assume that once he makes a deal with a dragon, he also gives up his arisen powers. It is just like what happens if our arisen runs from Grigori. The arisen would automatically teleport to the castle with no pawns there. That will also be part of the reason why our arisen cannot bring pawns to the duke's castle. I would assume an arisen also loses power to summon pawns and loses the ability to fight like an arisen if that arisen were to make a deal with a dragon. Duke Edmun seems to be a guy who loses many arisen powers but stays young due to his deal with the dragon. I would bet the dragon just let Duke Edmun rule Gran Soren without his physical powers. Duke Edmun may be the real arisen but he also loses so many physical powers after making a deal with the dragon.

the romance in this game is a complete joke. you think they wouldve upgraded since dd1. at least in dd1 they move into your house and you act like a real couple. in this one they just blush and dont even change dialogue.
In DD1, the reason why they move into your house is because they were married to your arisen. Even in real life, quite common for a spouse to live with you once they are married to you. In DD2, arisen would only do casual hookups. No strings attach. No commitment. No marriage. The arisen in DD2 would only do friends with benefit relationships or 1 night stand relationships. In real life, when a person go to a fret party, they hook up without any expectation of dating. So what is equivalent to going to a party to hook up is using that brothel service that Wilehilmina provided for you. That is where the arisen pays money just for sex.
The arisen in DD2 would romance James Bond's way but except that the arisen in DD2 have options to be bisexual. When you see James Bond romance, you will see that the relationship he do with women are either 1 night stand or friends with benefit relationships. James Bond does not marry them nor do any committed relationships with any of them. That is why you see him hop around having sex with different women. That is something the arisen in DD2 do is to have sex with different NPC regardless of gender.

Fun fact, I was planning on romancing Ulrika in my first play through. But after Wilhelmina made out with me (My Arisen), I owed her a favor by helping her avenge her parents and she slept with me as a reward. I don't know whose the hottest Dragon's Dogma 2 character, Ulrika or Wilhelmina.

@sussy_61 except it was advertised and designed specifically for having romance options/ sex scenes. That was the whole drama with gaming back then. This game franchise doesn't.
@@sussy_61no, the main aspect of that game is based around the relationships you have with your crew, one of mass effects biggest mechanics is talking to them after every mission and strengthening your bond which most of the time leads to long and detailed romance sequences that spans multiple games.

DD2 have more romantic options then DD1. You have a chance to have sex with Wilhelmina and Ulrika. And you have a chance to use the brothel service that Wilhelmina hooks you up with. Wilhelmina can give your arisen that membership card because she does not mind sharing the arisen with multiple men and women. Yes! Arisen in DD2 have a chance to become bisexual. If the arisen uses the brothel service, the arisen pays money for sex and get naked in bed with those different NPCs. Only difference is arisen in DD2 do not do committed relationships, does not do marriage and it is a no strings attached relationship. Every sex the arisen goes through in DD2 is casual hook up.

If we are seriously calling this kind of shit romance now… our understanding of relationships is incredibly shit.
Put it this way, including this in this game is checking Off a box on a list. It has no meaning, no point no purpose and you don’t care. it’s superficial skin, deep nothingness, validate, including something without actually including it.
We have had games where the romance mechanic was done, right where the agency is involved and as a player, they care about the mechanic. There is time investment and story and character, relationship value and interaction that allows for immersive depth. You believe it and so the mechanic has purpose and is authentic in its use.
DD2 like Ubisoft or Bethesda does not make use of this mechanic. It is superficial checkboxes that serve no more purpose than that. There is no player agency or believability or authenticity or depth. It is a waste of time with what little time spent on it which is also evident. And with minimal effort and superficial disingenuousness… they shouldn’t even bother with including this shit.
If you’re going to include something, if you’re going to do something… Be 100% authentic about it. If you’re just going to have it there to save face with skin deep presence… Don’t even bother. No one‘s going to care anyway, especially since you obviously didn’t. 🤦♂️

I did not expect a romance like BG3 anyway. I will have to look at the list of games scheduled for release this year but I doubt any of them will have adult content except for maybe a few nude scenes. Nothing as graphic as BG3.
