You and Brent have nursed that chain for so long and you knew that one day it would need to be replaced. Hopefully that new chain will last much longer. Thanks again for another informative video. We had a pretty reliable gutter cleaning system on our farm growing up. We backed the tractor and manure spreader down between the gutters and my brother and I each cleaned one side.
Good morning! Little trick to removing those inflation and pulsation hoses is to push them on bit farther to release them, then they will pull right off.

We had the same problem you guys have back in the day. It was hard to come by a good used chain and head. After a whole year of hand shoveling it out of the hole, we said he'll with with and filled the whole thing with concrete and just used the skid steer to scrape the barn every day. Worked wonders.
No chance you could replace the machine given its repeated breakdowns as you mentioned. Going after a used chain suggests probably not. How unfortunate. GOOD LUCK

Rubber hoses and the inflations if they do not want to slide off, push it on a little, they often break loose and come off much easier. Get a cut off saw for trimming the paddles it will be easier and you can set up a jig to get the right size every time. If I wasn't 20 plus hours away it would be fun to pick up the chain and help some, feel like I was farming again. Maybe you can get who ever is getting the chain to give you some video of the drive. That's a Patz barn cleaner -- I may have made some of the parts for it. Long lasting for sure. You may be able to use some or all of the flites (sized for your gutter) with the new chain or have the longer ones cut down by a machine shop in your area. Is the one you are buying another Patz product?? If it is, it will last a long time. Good luck with your project.
Over here its all loose cubicle sheds with feeding barriers out onto a feed passage with slurry tanks underneath and cows on slats. Would love to see the video of the scraper chain being fitted and how it works. Very interesting 👌
We all knew it was inevitable you were going to have to replace the chain, and it may be a pain but once it's all done it will be all worth it, hopefully maintenance-free for many many years!
Damn that sucks with the barn cleaner I prefer tie stall barn but when I work on. A farm with a freestall and parlor and all you had to worry about was the skid steer maintenance but tie stall cows are still better
An exhausting job. Every tie stall barn has this issue eventually but it is an expensive fix. Good luck to you both. It would be nice if you could line up some help to change the unit and chain.

Hi Taylor, we have about 65/70 milkers through a 6x6 westfalia abreast, our liners are 2 piece ones ,the liner is silcon the short milk tube to the claw is rubber , the liner will last 1year at least, more if you wanted ,they are much kinder on the cows teats than rubber ,about double the price but last more than twice as long . The short rubber tube tho are little better than yours i dont think the quality is good now . Hope you get the chain cleaner sorted , we all enjoy your video's here in the uk.

Taylor, when we milked here on our farm we would take the liners out of the shells every milking morning and evening and wash them and wash the shells.

Kind of a coincidence on barn cleaner chain for us to as ours broke a link yesterday so we are switching out old chain for some good used and some new chain that is on a pallet today,we knew it was wore so we made sure we had chain ready
Don't know what your schedule is for the road trip but keep the eclipse totality in mind if you're headed for northern New York or Vermont (you mentioned possible the Lake Champaign area.) Here in New Hampshire, they're talking about crazy amounts of traffic Sunday and Monday with cars pulling off the roads. Can't imagine NY or VT will be any different. Aside from traffic, rooms will be non-existent. Good luck and Godspeed.
A road trip sounds like fun. If it really is nine hours that will require some juggling for milking. Does someone have to stay home and miss the fun? I find milking keeps me in a six or seven hour radius of home. I know how you feel about the chain. It was a pain in the butt, but it served you well for so long it seems almost unfair to just scrap it. Have a donut in it's memory. Take care.
Sure hope the "new" gutter chain solves the problem. Constant breakdowns wear you down after awhile. It is a lot of money and a long drive. No disappointments allowed.
I used to always cut the inflations in half to take them off, was a little faster, and I wouldnt mix them up withnew ones lol. Videos awesome as always!
I also replaced all of those little black pulsator tubes with the double tubed clear tubing that we had to go from the pulsators to the machines. Id split it in half, it was way cheaper, lasted a lot longer, and is more rigid
Those used "inflations" are just "maravillosos" for everything they were not ment for like protection on hydraulic couplings, non slip attachments on tool handels, anti rattle on all metal gates/hinges, adaptors between differnt hoose diameters, etc etc 👍👍
I know where you are coming from. Milked a 120 registered Holstein cows through a 40 stall barn for 50 years. Those gutter cleaners are the handiest let frustrating machines on the farm. Love the videos Tay
Each to there own , I spent the first 18 years of my life growing up on a dairy farm where we milked 40 head of cows so its not like I have am some idiot that can not identify with your situation . As I might of said before in the long run you would be better of filling in the gutter with concrete and investing the money you spend on a new head and chain in a smaller or newer skid loader . Love having Brent in these videos . He shows up good and is very camara friendly.
Those chains never last long enough. But you have to know from the start that they will eventually need replaced. Like most everything else on a farm. But the money from the scrap chain can help off set the cost of the new to you chain at least

Please when you get ready to cut off those paddles , set up a chop saw & a jig stop at 2 inches , so much easier & quicker than a torch

Taylor, use a heat gun or a good hair dryer on the hoses and they will go off and on easier.

One thing that helped me get the small vacuum hose off when we had to change inhalations was to push them on just a little bit then pull them off.

When you take inflations off, push them forward toward the bowl first then pull them off, they will come off easier!

Those chains never last long enough. But you have to know from the start that they will eventually need replaced. Like most everything else on a farm. But the money from the scrap chain can help off set the cost of the new to you chain at least
