  • May 19 2017, Paramount Theatre, Austin | 'Jimmy LaFave's Songwriter Revue' | Jimmy LaFave's final words and singing onstage, after being honored for almost 4 hours by his fellow-songwriters. Fragment of the live streaming as seen on Eliza Gilkyson's Facebook page.
For the last time Jimmy LaFave - in good spirit, still joking -
sings 'Goodnight, Irene.' He tells his fans: "I love you all. I'm sorry. I've been trying to get on stage for the last 30 minutes."
While the audience stands up for an ovation, Jimmy brings his teenage son Jackson on stage and asks the fans to look after him. "This is my son, Jackson," he tells his fans. "Take care of him for me. Please. I love him so very, very much. He's a great kid." and
"Take him into the community and nurture him. Thank you so much." Thank YOU, Jimmy, for the wonderful music you gave us. We will see and hear you in our dreams and in reality. Your music and spirit lives on through your recordings.

Imagine him knowing this would be the last time he would be on stage. That was one hell of a man. RIP JIMMY

He made us cry when he sang his ballads but here the tears are saltier than usual. A truly loving man that was truly loved.

Finally figured I could watch this today. Ah, Jimmy. Goddamnit. I don't know what hurts more -- the pain of your passing or the sweetness of your spirit.

What strength he must have had to even show up for this event, let alone sing and speak. His spirit will be sorely missed but we have the music. RIP Jimmy.

What a wonderful and talented musician. I am so glad that I stumbled onto his music. I wish it had been a decade sooner, still very taken by his songs and especially his words. Thank you sir.

It was my great privilege to have heard Jimmy LaFave with his band several times and in a solo performance once. To say that he was a gifted artist with a deep, penetrating soul would be to say too little. He gave his heart every single time, whether it was a packed 'big house' or a smaller venue, as did his entire band. If you are not familiar with his music, I encourage you to make the effort to do so. For those of us who remain, we thank you.

Just heard "Catch the Wind by Donovan and I popped my head up saying, " There's a better version as a cover. Who in the hell sang that? Oh, wait.. Jimmy sang that beauty! No disrespect to Donovan but Jimmy nailed it!!🤘 I wish I could have seen him make it to Greenville, SC.
