To be honest the anime isn't even 'sad' as people like to say. The anime is all about reality and thats why I love it, you kind of have this sinking feeling in your chest rather than being sad if you know what I mean. I feel like reality is one of the main things that Makoto Shinkai likes to push forward. 5 Centimeters Per Second truly is a masterpiece. If you haven't already, you should watch clannad, they're not exactly similar animes but i'm sure that if you enjoyed 5 cm per second you will enjoy clannad.
