Here's a quote I found on the Internet: "Due to the overwhelming success of Hackett's "Gleason" recordings backed up by a "sea of strings", Capitol had made Bobby sign a contract which prevented him from recording in a similar setting for a period of several years after he switched to Columbia! As a result, Bobby experimented with a backdrop provided by a massive theater organ! " This album and a later one "The Most Beautiful Horn in the World" use the organ as a accompanying instrument, instead of strings, "Dream A While" was backed by creative organist Johnny Seng and "The Most Beautiful Horn..." was backed by an organ using arrangements by Glenn Osser (who wrote a long of string arrangements backing Columbia singers and did earlier work at Capitol for Hackett)... Creativity triumphs over attempted contract restrictions!
I loved American Airlines Music to Dawn, FM radio in Dallas, listening late at night to put me to sleep. The announcer's voice was soothing and h mostly didn't talk but played soft, soothing, romantic or spiritual music. I stopped listening in 1970 & forgot about it. Now, years later, when I can't sleep, I think of memories of that bedtime music that soothed my soul. I need to get this music back to continue playing for a while until I go to sleep.
I remember that show! I was in high school and my girlfriend always turned that on the stereo while we were making out on the couch! It was very relaxing and romantic too.
I need to find a copy of that record or if it's.on CD & purchase it. Maybe Half Price Books has it. Love Stairway to the Stars & Stardust! It's peaceful when I hear it...so relaxing and peaceful.
Beautiful Record. I think You change a tittle. Those Foolish Things as number 4 and Th Boy Next Door as number 5. Is that correct? Best Regards Bixbix81
My lord... that organ is one of the sweetest sounds I've ever heard. So lush, so shimmery... what a beautiful way to accompany great talent.
Bobby Hackett one of the smoothest trumpets ever a pure joy. to listen to.what ever happened to good music?
It Went To Hades, I Love Good Music. Today's Music Is For Hell, Even Country Music Has Gone To Hell, Too Bad. I Loved The Good Old Days
Thank you. This and the Jackie Gleason Orchestra album, both of which I owned and wore out , as a boy, are why I learned to play the cornet.
