- For Nearly my whole life I always dreamed of being able to run a steam locomotive to really feel what it's like to run these machines. and on February 6th 2023, I finally achieved my goal, I managed to buy one of the few available "Throttle Time" Tickets from the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad and Operated The Massive 1309 H-6 2-6-6-2 Mallet Steam Locomotive. Being able to grab that throttle for the first time and feel the true power of this machine was the greatest feeling ever. and being able to Let a Southern Railway 3 Chime ring out for everyone to hear was also an amazing feeling. the ticket did cost a hefty price. but I think it was worth every single penny. The engineer and fireman were actually visiting from the DRG&W railroad that day I was operating, They were great and very polite men.

So railfans if you want to experience what it's like to run one of these Mighty Machines, or to ride one of THE WMSR's regular excursions vist: wmsr.com/ keep in mind the throttle time tickets are very limited and will sell out decently fast. so get them while you can

If you’d seen the smile on your face, it was the biggest I’ve seen before. You did phenomenal for the first time I can already see you at the throttle of another engine!

1309 is back to her C&O glory. Now, all 1309 needs is some C&O passenger cars or a C&O caboose behind the coal drag.
Only thing is 1309 is only staying in this paint scheme for a few more weeks or days, then it's going back into WMSR paint. It's only in C&O paint because of a photo charter that Steve Lerro did.
@IronhorseRailProductions What a shame. 1309 looks best as Chesapeake and Ohio. Western Maryland should get 754 up and running. Maybe CSX will buy 1309 back from Western Maryland and send it to Kentucky Steam for their steam shop as a sister to 2716 that their rebuilding.
UP can do it, and I'm sure CSX can also.

@@slagcat I’m sorry, but I firmly believe anyone who thinks 1309 looks better in C&O than WM is either blind or a liar. She’s also not going anywhere, and if we’re lucky Kentucky Steam will do the sensible thing and roll 2716 out dressed as L&N 1992 again.
