Mother Deere was pretty proud of those parts that she had been holding onto for decades. Thanks for the Videos. Have a safe harvest when you get to the fields.
Metal working and machine shops are your friend on these old combines. Doesn’t matter if it’s red or green they charge ridiculous prices for parts. The joys of working on old combines nothing is easy to get at to fix and nothing is cheap. Great video
JT. Great videos to watch. Just found your channel last week and binged watched them all from beginning to end. You have improved a lot since those early days. Can you share what town you are close to, trying to figure out the Lake Huron location you showed recently. The Eastern shore covers a lot of territory. Thanks.
Free is for me JT! Great job fixing that problem. Too bad you're not a shrink! My 4 kids found out about my motorcycle ride. Told me I need my head examined? Still bricklaying on the Eastern Shore!
Excellent Video JT :) glad you matinee up all stuff own and my late dad also blew out rad screen every day before use tractor or combine and trucks on doing grain to even air conditioner in cab filter too! Sure help 100 % less dirty too!
Good job and a problem I have noticed on my 6600 this year. Sure would like to talk about adjustments to get my grain cleaner from the separator with you. My barley had a lot of stalks left in the hopper. Good luck at harvest!
We've got 2 6600 John Deere in those brackets for the pulley we have replaced those things at least two times now and then the screen pulley replacement belt probably every other year they're famous for.
I may have said it before, but I like the way you show what it's like for the American farmer to put food on the table. I watched a video this morning with 2 new JD combines with 18 row corn heads, the price tag, 1.1 million dollars, Each! The corn heads alone are listed at $270,000. I say this for the people who don't know why food costs so much more now. America was fed by the small farmer like JT. I used to be one. Farms have turned into corporate entinties that has made the small family farm no longer profitable. All that did was drive up the cost of farming only to lower the payback at the end of the year. Just for reference, in 1981 I bought a new Gleaner M with a 15' grain head and a 6 row corn head that cost about half what that new John Deere corn head cost. I know that's not really a fair comparison, but's that's a fact. JT, I've been there and I like the way that you show that hard work does pay off. I relly enjoy your channel, thanks from an old farmer.
Well JT another great video, you ask for comments and suggestions...so here is one that makes me nervous ...the new shop I love seeing you have a well deserved space. With that being said I would really really hate to see it all go up when you could prevent a fire by havilg a extinguisher by the bench and one or two hanging on tbe walls. Just my two cents worth...would hate to lose you as one of my go to u tubers. Thanks for allowi g comments and good luck with the beans. Allan , citrus grower central Fl.
Replaced many worn tensioner pivot pin/mount on hundred and 20 series combines back in the day when I was at the dealer. There are super deep sockets cheap on eBay to help on that long tensioner bolt.
The cost of parts nowadays is scary, lm glad it was a simple repair. Do you prefer water over compressed air for cleaning a radiator and condenser. Great video JT
For our combine, to adjust belt tension easier and quicker we cut a socket in half and welded a piece of tubing in between. That way you can put an impact on that nut to tighten or loosen much easier. Has saved us several times out in the field.
Looks like the combine needs a good cleaning after harvest is done every year, preventing a lot of rust issues from grunge . That poor girl on the wall didn’t have any protection from the sparks..makes me nervous when cats around combines and possibly get trapped
We have had several 4400 combines over the years before giving up the hobby farming. Can't say I was sad to see them go. I guess the good thing is parts availability.
Good job dr jt👌you saved your self a hell off a lot of money there 💪it’s the same here in oz the jd parts are way too too dear 😵💫cheers from down under 🇦🇺
Just for fun in the field...paint a spiral on the side of that spinning cover, like they do on turbine engines. Or put a couple of timing marks so you can see it moving in that fish eye mirror. "Oh, JT must be out combining again"
With the way the radiator looks and that setup with the screen and belt and personally I never liked the unloading auger setup on that style of JD Combine. I think i would be on the lookout for a good Massey or Glener combine. We had a Massey 540 combine with a 13 foot grain head and 4 row corn head. That was the smallest MF made at that time but we had very little trouble with it. But we tried growing some clover one year and the 540 didn't work very well harvesting that. We hired the neighbor with his Gleaner and it did a fine job. I have seen some of the Massey 750 and 760 combines selling pretty cheap and they were good combines. The problem would be finding something that didn't have a billion acres run through it.
hey jt incase no one told you yet you should clean that radiator lol just kiddin.. looking good so far shes pretty much ready to go , your ahead of were we usually were at this time haha always to much to do and not enough daylight my friend
Keep a eye on the one hydraulic hose the rubber is all scraped off so it is hitting something as for the brackets I think I would go to a machine shop and see if they could make it before I gave JD $800 but it’s good to see your fix worked
This has been the worst year for spiders we've had in a few decades in this area of western Ontario. They're the size of quarters and are everywhere, leave a tractor out overnight and the next day it's covered in cobwebs.
I have a fancy auto darkening welding mask but when that runs out of battery I have to use the old one until we can get more batteries for it but it is so much harder to weld with the old mask
the cooling fan, they sure didn't support the out shaft well enough looks like. I it is a distances form the axis appears. Maybe why the belt gets chewed up so easy
What would JT do? I was bricklaying in Historic New Castle Delaware. I witnessed a guy who never rode a motorcycle in his life. It was a comic. The guy took off and crashed into the tennis courts. I told him I would help him out. I bought the Harley Davidson Sportster and rode it home. I paid 2 grand and he was grateful. Another life saved.
But at least they would still sell you a new piece if you would spend the money. I just think they jack the price to make you think twice, today I do a lot of thinking twice.
The stuff you think should be reasonable at the dealer gives you heart attack and something you think would cost an arm and a leg doesn’t cost that much at all!

What is the purpose of that spinning thing? Does it have something to do with dust removal?
Yes, keeps chaff off so the fan can still pull air through
Most likely the pivot pin and bushing are worn. My old 6600 did the same thing.
