  • Larus Sigurdsson goals - 1994 - 1999
Larus Sigurdsson joined the Potters in 1994, largely on the recommendation of his cousin and then Stoke midfielder Toddy Orlygsson. After an impressive debut away at Portsmouth he went on to replace Lee Sandford at left back, winning Stoke's player of the year award for 1994/95. The following season he was switched to central defence, partnering the likes of Vince Overson, Ian Cranson and Justin Whittle at different stages as we reached the First Division play-offs. With both Overson and Cranson struggling with injuries Larus became our senior centre half for 1996/97 but couldn't prevent the Potters slipping to relegation in 1997/98. Down in the Second Division he was one of our better players. Ironically he was sold to West Bromwich Albion in September 1999, a month prior to the Icelandic takeover. He did well for the Baggies, helping them to the Premiership in 2002. In 2004 he returned to his native Iceland. On the international stage he won 42 caps.
