  • Ian Moores goals
Born locally in Chesterton, Ian Moores started his career with the Potters in 1974 as a left winger but later converted to a centre forward. He was introduced gradually during the 1974/75 season before becoming a regular the following year, scoring 12 goals and finishing joint top scorer alongside Jimmy Greenhoff. With Stoke in need of cash he was sold to Tottenham Hotspur in August 1976. After three years in north London he dropped down to the Second Division in attempt to get more first team football, joining Leyton Orient. Moores finished his career in 1983 with Bolton Wanderers. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1997, dying the following year at the age of just 43.
