TIERRA BAND -Legacy “ZOOT SUIT BOOGIE”

Since the early 80's, fans have connected the look of the Zoot Suit with TIERRA Original saxophonist for TIERRA , Bobby Navarrete (who performed on the hit album “CITY NIGHTS” & now performs with TIERRA Legacy, this video is one of our recent performances at the L.A.County Fair), was the first band member to adorn the defiant look that Mexican youth had adopted as an unofficial uniform of resistance during the 30's and 40's. My Dad Rudy and Uncle Steve, who founded TIERRA , were highly influenced by my Grandfather and his dedication to Chicano cultural awareness and the social movement that sprang up in the early 70's. When TIERRA became a national sensation in 1981 they brought the look of the Zoot Suit and their Father's and Uncle's experience to the forefront and incorporated dancers and theatrics into their show. Those who remember this will recall a band that not only performed great music but also created a show that spoke to them musically and culturally. Today, when TIERRA Legacy performs Zoot Suit, we pay homage not only to TIERRA but to our culture. We dig into the past and mimic the same theatrics and dance moves that TIERRA performed back in the day.
