punkgurliegurl i agree it’s great, but you have to realise if all of us had fast metabolisms most of us would just eat what we want, but not everyone is blessed with a fast metabolism so have to be more cautious when choosing what to eat to maintain their weight :)))
I think this is why the population of obese people cannot lose weight, they go on diets thinking that these options will help, but the artificial sweeteners, alien ingredients and the lack of fat make the body hungrier as it's foreign to it. So, like you said, wholefoods like what our grandparents were brought up on are so much better for us, nutritionally, alot healthier and keeps us sustained for a reasonable time. Well done Grackle, love you girlie xxxxx😘
Also when you go on a diet you're just up for failure. Science has proven time and time again that diets dont work and that you should eat a variety of food to feel happy and satisfied and also stay at a healthy weight. But you're absolutely right, like diet coke makes you GAIN weight and the more you drink it the more you gain. So people are fooled to believe that they're making a good choice when they switch up soda to a diet one (when in reality they should drink water)
@@samuelm2989 I'm sorry but I have to correct you. (1) diets do work. Not all diets are equal in their efficacy. The word "diet" in the sense that you are eating in caloric deficit, is a valid way to stay healthy or become a healthier weight. (2) drinking Diet Coke does not actually make you gain weight. At least not directly. There are studies showing that it maintains or heightens your body's desire/craving for sweet tasting things, which means you're more likely to eat sweet things, which means you're more likely to gain weight... but by itself, drinking Diet soda DOES NOT make you gain weight. Please try to avoid stating falsities in a matter-of-fact way.
Absolutely agree. I eat whole fat raw milk, eggs and butter etc, a strong believer of wholefoods. However 3 major differences between our generation and that of our grandparents is that their portion sizes were smaller, they didn't have the range of snacks we have now and their life was more mobile. Everything in moderation, that's the key, unless theirs special circumstances. That's my moto in life. If we adhere to that then 'dieting' is unnecessary.
Hummus is loaded with oil and tahini so a reduced fat option is probably just using less oil and tahini and more chickpeas. And with cereal, they also use refined oil to make the flavouring stick to the cereal. So they probably just use less of oil and more sugar syrup to make it stick. You are right about the substitutions....they usually ad more of sth else if they reduce fat. it's best to just make stuff from scratch if you're really tring to be healthy. But if you wanna processed snack than I'd say just go for the normal version. If it's not every day it's not going to have a massive effect on your health (hopefully).
I don't think they "remove" the fat, rather that they just don't put it in in the first place, and just replace it with something else (something that's actually arguably worse for you, as you said at the beginning)?
I'm diabetic and my dad tried to be helpful buying the reduced sugar and salt beans...it just tastes so rubbish 😂 like my pancreas is dead not my tastebuds
generally the reduced sugar options (at least here in the u.s.) are as high or higher in carbs than the standard variety. i buy the regular for the mr and just watch serving size so i can track his carbs
No it's not. It's made with tahini which is ground sesame seeds. You might have a drizzle of olive oil on top as a garnish but it is not part of the actual dip.
@@jbyrd9118 absolutely I've made my own houmous just with less tahini which makes it lower fat. I'm not a big fan of the flavour of tahini anyway so it suits me.
Thank you for sharing your refreshing, healthy relationship with food😁You are so positive and this video just proves that if you don’t eat the marketed ‘low fat’ ‘low sugar‘ diets you aren’t going to suddenly be unhealthy! Everyone is different and it’s about balance and enjoying your food instead of worrying you should be eating one way or another💗💗xx
the intro to this video was amazing! especially your disclaimer and providing other video options to watch if this won’t be good for someone. Love and applaud that so so so much
I really appreciate you giving a disclaimer in the beginning of the video explaining why you're doing this, but it also goes to show how judgemental society has become. Whatever content you wish to create - go for it! You'll always find someone who doesn't agree. I'm quite a new sub and really enjoy watching your videos. They brighten my day :)
Honestly, watching your videos now that I'm further along in my recovery is so wholesome. I see you doing things like eating more than 1 biscuit at a time, more than 1 snack (that isn't fruit) a day, or whatever and I realise that it's absolutely fine. For a while I actually believed that I was practically recovered, but I still had so many rules for myself. My ultimate goal is to start eating intuitively, but for now if I do I still start eating less because I'm somehow afraid of eating too much, so I still track what I eat and stick to a minimum every day
Love these videos! Such an important portrayal of the truth that everyone should just eat what is good for their body personally and honor their body’s cues!
I am SO HAPPY finally someone said it:"when they take one thing out they add another". So true! Diet foods ARE NOT healthy foods at all! Diet bread should be WHOLE GRAIN bread. You see the word "whole"? That's the key, whole foods beat diet foods, always.
Yep, so true! If something is diet, it means it's more processed. If let's say you use full fat butter, it's more natural and therefore healthier. Less fat doesn't automatically mean healthier. Store bought sauces are usually loaded with sugar, for whatever reason. Triggered by Grace replacing the ketchup lid, while the spilled ketchup is still on the rim.
I adore these types of videos so I clicked on the notification instantly even though I was only half way through a Safiya Nygaard video! Your channel is the best!
Helpful to remind me that I need to carry on with eating 'normal' foods after years of trying various low fat, low sugar, low salt, light, healthy foods and being ill and miserable!!
You're such a great advocate for intuitive eating, and a lovely antidote to a lot of the unrealistically restrictive diets and lifestyles being portrayed as the ideal on social media right now. Keep doing what you're doing!
Store bought Hummus is high in fat because it has tahini and oil.. If i make my own i dont use oil which cuts out lots of fat. So its easy to make hummus lower in fat lol
This was so interesting to watch! The one thing I will say is that as a diabetic, artificial sweeteners are much easier on my body than real sugar, which is one of the appeals of eating artificially sweetened things. For most people, I agree that sweetened with sugar or otherwise, it doesn’t really make a difference, but just thought I’d throw my two cents out there!
Its summer time and her family look like they all have fair skin, someone probably put it there for ease to slap on when they're going out or in the garden - and its not a cupboard its more of a nook/shelving unit, and things probably just get put there for ease
I love how honest you are in these videos! They’re so interesting to watch and definitely answer some of the questions I’ve had about some of these products
I totally agree with everything you said at the end! I love how informative and knowledgeable you are in these kind of videos and you really inform and educate your viewers! and I think it is so important to say, which you did, how one diet does not fit all, like we can not all eat the same and one thing might work for you but won't necessarily work for someone else! we are all different shapes and sizes and energy levels and all require different amounts/types of food! loved this video Grace, like always! keep up the amazing work!! 😊🥰👏🙌💕 p.s sugar free foods defo make you more gassy! I eat these sugar free digestives from time to time when I can get my hands on them just cause I genuinely really like them but I definitely have noticed that I am so bloated and gassy after eating them whereas normal digestives do not make me that way!

Your mum is SO right about not buying diet foods. It’s true that what they lack in fat, calories etc they have in sweeteners and other bad ingredients. I had to snort at the ketchup label. No sugar my ass! What do they think sucralose is? And the cookies have maltitol and palm oil. Sweeteners are no better than sugar - they still have an insulogenic effect. Diet products are the biggest scam ever. I’m so angry at the food industry - diet foods have contributed to the rise of eating disorders. Most people with binge eating disorder, bulimia, etc, developed their disorders after following a weight loss diet, and many of them ate these products during their diets. These foods are NOT satiating (Grace ate more snacks than meals) and if anything, they make you crave more food. It’s really restricting. No wonder after some time eating like this the bubble bursts and people end up bingeing on anything and everything. Cue in the shame and the restricting, and the cycle begins. This is exactly how my BED started. I recommend the book The Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholz. Eat real fat! Butter substitutes are poison. Margarine is made with vegetable oil and it’s terrible for you. I remember when I stopped buying low-fat yogurt and started buying full-fat yogurt. I went straight to the fattiest yogurt - Greek yogurt. It was GLORIOUS! It’s like I had been eating water the whole time and for the first time in forever I was eating real food. For a decadent dessert, I don’t eat ice cream, I have natural, full-fat Greek yogurt with raw cacao powder, matcha powder or nuts. Seriously, don’t do diet foods!
Great post! I've done a lot of research lately and I too buy Greek yogurt and never buy anything diet or fat free. Grace's mom was definitely ahead of her time not buying that rubbish.
@@donnashields1194 She was indeed! All these diet, fat-free products are relatively new in the food industry. They have only been around for a few decades. In the '50s people ate full-fat dairy, refined white bread, rice, potatoes, etc and yet look at pictures of people back then (or from the '60s and '70s) and compare them to pictures of people now. Back then most people were at a healthy weight and now obesity is rampant. Shouldn't these diet products have helped beat obesity? How come things aren't getting better? It doesn't add up... Also, in the '50s most people ate three square meals a day (snack foods were almost non-existant) and now we have been hoodwinked into believing that we need to eat 5-6 times a day or else we'll die from hypoglycemia.
@@Sylphadora Yes, that is so true that people used to be thinner years ago. The science concerning what to eat and what not to eat is always changing, it's no wonder that people are confused! I've been overweight almost all my life and think I finally found a way to eat that is sustainable long term. I have cut down significantly on simple carbs and processed foods while still eating fats, protein and low carb fruit and veg. My husband has lost 40 lbs and I have lost 30. I still have a way to go but think it will eventually come off. I have just made chicken in a cream wine sauce to have for dinner later tonight over zucchini. Smells amazing! I do not feel deprived at all!
As someone who has always been on the bigger side, with a slower metabolism along with the rest of my family, i find it so interesting to see someone react like this. My mum has always been dieting, I’ve been in and out of diet fads from such a young age that I would never consider burying full fat coke etc in the shop and standing comparing nutritional info on boxes is just part of an average shopping trip. I instinctively grab the “low fat” option and the thinnest, smallest breads and reduced sugar products. I can truthfully say it’s eye opening to realise that isn’t a part of everyone’s up bringing. Great video! It’s interesting to see someone who has such a different experience!
Love these kind of videos. Thank you so much for the disclaimer too, very thoughtful. I have an Ed, but in recovery so not easily triggered so will watch as I'm interested in your opinion, especially as I love your healthy attitude to food xx

it's amazing how u approach every single video with such respect and research, i don't think there's anyone like you on youtube!! keep doing u grace ❤️
Love the videos. Your momma did a good job in teaching you about food :) In order to reduce the fat the water content is increased, sugar is increased and/or they'll use a leaner cut of meat. To reduce sugar they usually just swap out to sweeteners or use actual fruit rather than concentrate. To reduce calories they'll reduce the good stuff (fat, carbs & sugar), reduce the size, increase the water content and/or increase the air used to produce the product I.e. Ice cream.
Thank you for making videos like this💞it’s really is inspiring and makes me happy to see that I can EAT normal stuff like cookies without having to feel bad about it. I really adore you and love your relationship with food 🥰
Growing up, my mother and my sister were always trying out the newest fad diet; Slimming World, Weight Watchers, Cambridge, low sugar, no fat, etc, etc. I always just ate the “normal” food options available in the house and now as a mother, partner and food buyer for my family I still refuse to provide anything with altered ingredients (low this/reduced that). We eat balanced diets. We are healthy. Yet my mother and sister (and her family) are still on the “diet” carousel. I will never understand why it’s so hard for the fad dieters to eat a variety of good, whole foods and stay active. It’s the best possible choice.
As someone who has a history of disorderd eating (I'm fully recovered now) I actually found this video quite helpful. Because it rationalised how much these diet foods really are set up to draw people in when in reality it's often better to just eat a whole foods diet.
Pasta sauce and hummus usually have oils added to them, so the low fat versions don't have oil in them. Although they could still be adding extra stuff into them to make up for the fact there's no oil.
@@chiller1199 same this whole summer ive been eating so much homemade food that everytime i eat out or eat junkfood my stomach gets very upset and i get severe bloating:'D

Absolutely adore the fact that you put a disclaimer in front of this video! And I love that your education and general inquisitive mind makes you question the whole marketing and mentality behind “diet” foods. I’m definitely going to be looking out for the added sweeteners in the place of sugar! Love you Grace!

But I totally understand if you're too busy! But didn't wanna miss my chance xx (I can ask you again on IG?? Idk ) hope you're having a lovely day! Love this video, keep up the great work grace 🥰
The “diet” cereal you picked up isn’t really diet, and I’m glad you brought that up! It’s true that what “seems” healthy or is sold that way usually isn’t! When I went through a weight loss program with trainers and all they recommended whole wheat/bran type cereals (5g net carbs or less, and the least amount of sugar from those cereals), then they said to add fruit and milk.
Love the video, and it really highlights the importance of comparing 100 grams of the different varieties up against each other to see if there is an actual difference or not. Also loved the videos in the description😄 just one thing: you keep saying that there is a lot of misleading information out there - which of course is very true - but artificial sweeteners is also a topic which is worth debating, and really doesn't need to be worse for you than actual sugar.
I rarely laugh out loud at things (I usually just have an internal chuckle in my head) but Grackle makes me cackle. Much enjoyed, very fun, good entertainment 10/10.
The Alpen light Jaffa flavour are the best they are a life saver send when you need a snack on a long shift but have to wait for a break for a proper meal and they actually are pretty filling

I think you should do a blindfold siblings ‘ Guess the pasta sauce’ challenge. Where you try to guess the homemade, luxury, premium and budget versions and rate them
Hey Grace!Pasta sauce typically has added oil, so that is what makes it fatty (sometimes). If there is onion and garlic in a sauce, it is typically sauteed in oil or butter before adding the tomatoes :) Hope that helps!
Your mother is 100% correct, whole-food options are always better than artificial “diet” foods. I’ve tried diets in the past, and the only thing that ever helped me lose weight was whole-food plant-based.
Hey Grace! Just a little tip - mayo is usually dairy free, as it’s just made with egg and oil (with mustard and salt sometimes) so you can totally have it!
For the fat reduced stuff, it's not that they take fat out of it. They just add a little less in the recipe compared to the 'normal' one. Unfortunately sometimes company add more sugar instead for the taste. So they can label it as fat reduced but you still consume the same amount of calories
It’s the oil they use in the hummus. Always look at your ingredients. The reason they put low fat on sauce is so you will buy it, look for all the different kinds of sugar in foods.
Hey Grace, probably people have already answered but with ‘taking fat out’ it depends on what it is to how they lessen the fat content. For the sausages they just remove the fat from the pork before mincing and making the meat into a sausage, for the hummus they lessen the oil content (oil, tahini and chickpeas are usual ingredients), for the cereal they have most likely lessened the proportion of nuts and seeds to grains as grains are high in carbs but low in fat whereas nuts and seeds are high in fat low in carbs. So it really depends but mostly they just remove the fat element before combining the ingredients. For sugars, the sugars on the box are sometimes misleading because you have to take into account natural sugars v refined and processed varieties. Something sweetened with honey could have just as many ‘sugars’ as something sweetened with white sugar. Honey is lower GI and takes a longer time for the body to burn that white sugar and contains many nutrients that white sugar is lacking. These are just a few simple examples but I hope they help remove some of the mystery from the packaging for you. It’s important to look at the comparative ingredients as well as the sugars/carbs/fats/proteins. Love the videos and keep up the good work ❤️
The sausage splitting is normal, think of it like a potato. They split to release steam, we usually poke holes in them with forks. Also a Bolognese isn't just tomato based! Traditionally it's more like a thick, stewed sauce with meat and LOTS of olive oil. That's probably the oil they meant, since even regular tomato sauces have healthy glugs of it added the same way hummus has it too.
How about making everything you eat from scratch for a day. Make pasta but your own noodles etc.. make your own pudding. And include your sweets
nice idea 💡

You are right about the substitutions....they usually ad more of sth else if they reduce fat. it's best to just make stuff from scratch if you're really tring to be healthy. But if you wanna processed snack than I'd say just go for the normal version. If it's not every day it's not going to have a massive effect on your health (hopefully).
Thanks for the trigger warning; it reminded me this video isn’t good for me and I should just skip this one 💓
💛💛
I’m so proud of u and everyone who listened to theirselves and her warning
Isabel Durnan bless you thanks so much
I don't think they "remove" the fat, rather that they just don't put it in in the first place, and just replace it with something else (something that's actually arguably worse for you, as you said at the beginning)?
They don't necessarily need to replace it but to be fair they normally do sorry I odnt know what im saying
I'm diabetic and my dad tried to be helpful buying the reduced sugar and salt beans...it just tastes so rubbish 😂 like my pancreas is dead not my tastebuds
generally the reduced sugar options (at least here in the u.s.) are as high or higher in carbs than the standard variety. i buy the regular for the mr and just watch serving size so i can track his carbs
get him Eric Westman's pg. 4
Hummus is usually made with olive oil, so the low fat option is probably using something else like water 😄
No it's not. It's made with tahini which is ground sesame seeds. You might have a drizzle of olive oil on top as a garnish but it is not part of the actual dip.
It could also be the exact same as a regular hummus and the serving size is smaller. Or....they add less oil and tahini.
@@jbyrd9118 absolutely I've made my own houmous just with less tahini which makes it lower fat. I'm not a big fan of the flavour of tahini anyway so it suits me.
@@Minverna no because oil is pure fat. Tahini is the whole sesame seed blended up so has less fat overall.
Nicola M hummus is made of chickpeas not tahini
Annabel Gauci it’s more for people with ED’s etc
Exactly, diet food is actually garbage.
"more natural and therefore healthier" that's literally a logical fallacy. Not saying diet food is healthier but your argument is faulty.
You are so unproblematic and down to earth I am REFRESHED!! I love all of this talk about marketing of diet foods vs. actual nutrition
Okay but why is there a bottle of Nivea aftersun in a kitchen cupboard along with what looks like lemonade, Pimms, and olive oil ??? (03:00)
perhaps to mosturise their hands after they clean their dishes or maybe there is something else in it lol
maybe when they go outside they have some there so they don't have to go back upstairs

Is anyone else triggered by grace screwing the ketchup lid back on the spilled ketchup??
Yaaaaaaaaaassssss!!!!!
Omg yea :(
I'm too gobsmacked by the 4 sausages in one sandwich, hahaha. I'm a fatty and I can only manage one.
@@heathercreighton9613 if you can only manage one sausage Heather(that's what she said) then I can confirm I very much doubt you're a fattie poppet.
Love how you actually analysed and compared the foods!
Diet bread is dis-GRACE-ful (sorry I had to)
that was exactly my thought when I saw the thumbnail xD
faeylin lol rlly
I really loved your disclaimer and including links to other fun videos you recommend in case this video is triggering! You're such a thoughtful, responsible person and I LOVE you're videos! :)
Me: Gonna be productive now
Grace: I'm about to ruin this man's whole career
I love that you are making people think about this. I've never really liked diet stuff in general because of the added sweeteners or saying low in 1 thing + making up for it with another. I'm so glad you're showing this to people + putting such a positive message out there about everyone being different. Keep doing what u do 👏 😀 xx
Totally love your intro. It is so well articulated and curated and balanced 😃. Going to keep watching now
I love having the break so I can catch up on any Grack vids I've missed. Sending lots of love in this hard time, I'm so thankful for your videos Grace!
ahhh grace!! i love you so much. you’re soooo amazing for being so inclusive for people like myself with an eating disorder who are easily triggered by topics like this. i just love your channel so much that i clicked on the video anyway even though i knew it was a silly decision of mine, but i’m now going to watch one of your fun alternative options instead. because you’re right!!! it’s so much better for my mental health. :) thank you so much. xxxxxx
Sweeteners seem to work for me :\
As someone who has always been on the bigger side, with a slower metabolism along with the rest of my family, i find it so interesting to see someone react like this.
I’ve been binging on your videos for the past couple of days! Your energy radiates through the screen! Your content is so engaging and I love your material💗💗
I love her personality and energy. She’s so positive and fascinating
it's amazing how u approach every single video with such respect and research, i don't think there's anyone like you on youtube!! keep doing u grace ❤️
Love the videos. Your momma did a good job in teaching you about food :)
In order to reduce the fat the water content is increased, sugar is increased and/or they'll use a leaner cut of meat. To reduce sugar they usually just swap out to sweeteners or use actual fruit rather than concentrate. To reduce calories they'll reduce the good stuff (fat, carbs & sugar), reduce the size, increase the water content and/or increase the air used to produce the product I.e. Ice cream.
grace that intro was fabulously worded, i'm very impressed
It’s the best possible choice.
i love how youre still informative in these fun challenges
As someone who has a history of disorderd eating (I'm fully recovered now) I actually found this video quite helpful. Because it rationalised how much these diet foods really are set up to draw people in when in reality it's often better to just eat a whole foods diet.
I dunno why I watch you. It's weirdly wholesome
Pasta sauce and hummus usually have oils added to them, so the low fat versions don't have oil in them. Although they could still be adding extra stuff into them to make up for the fact there's no oil.
Love seeing your family dynamic! Y’all are so cute and remind me of my whacky family, nice to see we aren’t the only ones haha

I don’t know if you’ve done this before but if you haven’t, you should do a week of value brand. So like Sainsbury’s basics or Asda smart price and compare nutritional value and taste to the branded equivalent. Also I’d be really interested in the research and investigation that you do on the topic of the video.
She has done this before as the "eat the cheapest food in the supermarkets " :)
Grace always makes the most creative videos on this platform

Absolutely adore the fact that you put a disclaimer in front of this video! And I love that your education and general inquisitive mind makes you question the whole marketing and mentality behind “diet” foods. I’m definitely going to be looking out for the added sweeteners in the place of sugar! Love you Grace!

The “diet” cereal you picked up isn’t really diet, and I’m glad you brought that up! It’s true that what “seems” healthy or is sold that way usually isn’t! When I went through a weight loss program with trainers and all they recommended whole wheat/bran type cereals (5g net carbs or less, and the least amount of sugar from those cereals), then they said to add fruit and milk.
they make hummus low fat but receding the tahini and olive oil:)
the most upsetting thing i've ever seen is Grace saying low-fat hummus is "as good as normal" like HOW DARE YOU
You should try eating only Tasty recipes for a day!
I think for the hummus they blend it with less oils, therefore lower fat! Amazing video again Grace I agree with you, eat what’s best and enjoy! 😄
YES ANOTHER ONE! I’ve been watching your old old videos from like 2016 while waiting for a new video 😂😂😂😂
Same
Love the video, and it really highlights the importance of comparing 100 grams of the different varieties up against each other to see if there is an actual difference or not.

The Alpen light Jaffa flavour are the best they are a life saver send when you need a snack on a long shift but have to wait for a break for a proper meal and they actually are pretty filling

i love how ur calling these food companies out. i think if people who struggle with eating and their bodies saw how outrageous these diet foods were, it would really make them feel better about their bodies.

haha omg keeping it real, love you so much XD
I think you should do a blindfold siblings ‘ Guess the pasta sauce’ challenge. Where you try to guess the homemade, luxury, premium and budget versions and rate them
Hey Grace!Pasta sauce typically has added oil, so that is what makes it fatty (sometimes). If there is onion and garlic in a sauce, it is typically sauteed in oil or butter before adding the tomatoes :) Hope that helps!
Also enjoyed your favourite roundabouts video!! Also the Sean Mendez one! 😆💞 Thanks Grace xx
Always remember youre you 💖 the only ideal that matters is that you are happy and you have what you truly need
Your mother is 100% correct, whole-food options are always better than artificial “diet” foods. I’ve tried diets in the past, and the only thing that ever helped me lose weight was whole-food plant-based.
I regret all the times I ate "diet" foods. You are so correct about them taking stuff out and then putting other stuff in.
Your amount of subscribers rocketed so fast, keep up the great content!💕
Hey Grace! Just a little tip - mayo is usually dairy free, as it’s just made with egg and oil (with mustard and salt sometimes) so you can totally have it!
Grace! You are literally my favourite human being 😂
For the fat reduced stuff, it's not that they take fat out of it. They just add a little less in the recipe compared to the 'normal' one. Unfortunately sometimes company add more sugar instead for the taste. So they can label it as fat reduced but you still consume the same amount of calories
Proper little tricksters indeed ! I just love your videos !
Clicked straight awayyyy!! Ily Grace 💖💖💖
Lovi Tomato A decent sausage won't split.
It also depends on the temperature you cook them in. If you use too high heat, they're more likely to split!
Another food challenge from a specific decade would be cool!
