Hit the Bald Eagle trails yesterday for the first time. Now I'm addicted and can't wait to go back. Great place to ride!

Awesome ! You have till the end of the month then they close till Memorial Day weekend.
You can ride the drivable roads there all year but not the trails. I’ll probably be there opening weekend myself.
Also - in September the Pennsylvania Trail Riders Association holds their dual sport ride there. About a 100 miles or so. Great way to learn the place. Check their website for updates on their event next year.

I live north of Thompsontown PA.
I hunt Shade and Jacks Mountains a lot.
I bought a DR650 end of April i use as commuter.
First weekend i had it I rode up over Hower Gap and all over the place up on jacks over to Weikert. Trails weren't open yet so I was just on dirt rds.
Heading up Monday morning to do an 80 mile round trip. It should be fun.

@@bkauffman0390 that’s awesome ! I wish I lived up that way. I’m signed up for the 7 Mountains Dual Sport at Bald Eagle. It’s the 30th year for it. It’s a great event to learn the system. Also a great club and a sister club to our own. They’re worth supporting as there the only ones who maintain the trials up there. The DCNR doesn’t do much and they do nothing for the single track there. That’s all the Pennsylvania Trail Riders Association.
I commute on my DR too. The stock gearing is great for that and sustains highway speeds with ease. However the stock gearing for the woods is a bit tall. I made up a chain to work with various sized sprockets depending on what I’m doing with the bike.
      Stock is 14/42
I have a 45t rear and run a 14t for trail riding and a 16t for commuting. 16/45 equates stock gearing. Pro Cycle has front sprocket retainer that works with all sizes.

@PennsylvaniaDualSport Cool. I like the trails on shade for hunting. They snake through the laurel and hive me a silent way to slip hunt. I shot a doe from a dual sport trail a few years ago using that method.
      On my bike,
I did some mods. Mainly cosmetic.
I agree about the gearing but I think I'll leave mine stock unless it is too "tall" to the point of frustration this weekend.
I have tusk waypoints I need to put on, I'm still on stock tires.
I hate the stock shinkos but I'm going to use them up before changing.
Also I should lower it, @ 5' 7" with 30" inseam it is too tall and I've struggled at times offroad. I'm not going to make to many changes on a whim and realize later it is just me getting used to the bike.

@@bkauffman0390 I believe you can drop the DR on your own. There should be another place to mount your linkage on the dog bone. Then you drop your forks in the trees. Be careful with that though cause it can drastically change how the bike handles at speed.
You can also get a 1” low seat or pop the cover off and shave the stock one. My wife did that with her CB500X but took it to an upholsterer. She also had a gel pad inserted at that time. Cost her about $100 which was a lot cheaper than a new seat.

@PennsylvaniaDualSport how quickly can you change out that front sprocket?
That was taller gearing than I expected yesterday. Had a lot of fun but it was too difficult...the gitst tail we hit was far more challenging than expected....my cousin dumped his African twin. I nearly dumped mine.

Lot of people coming in from out of state, trash laying all over the place, loud A** headers (not stock quite pipes) no spark arrester on, ride at top speeds (posted speed in the forest is 15 MPH) WFO every where you/they go. Is gonna get the forest closed down to any and all motorcycling. I'm all for riding in the area(s) but for God sake use some sense before we loose it....Am very familiar with the area, just keep it down ....a lot
