Hi Everyone,
We're posting this video on #LolaDay, the 50th Birthday of one of our favourite songs by one of our favourite British rock bands.
There is something so unorthodox, unapologetic and poetically blunt about The Kinks' music. The predecessor to punk. Untamed yet melodic, introspective, witty and observational in the most creative, captivating way. Nothing gives you a more vivid picture of parts of British culture than diving into a Kinks album. We love these guys.
We hope we did this song proud and that you enjoy our take on this classic. Us and Papa Rudi (on bass and keys) had an absolute blast working on it. Please leave a comment and share your thoughts with us.
A huge Thank You to Karen and Ray Davies for getting in touch and inviting us to take part in the #LolaDay celebrations ♥
Stay Groovy,
Mona & Lisa
I love these ladies for many reasons, but one HUGE reason is that they are bringing new life into some of these great songs. I help out in a music store on occasions and I have noticed some many teens coming in now, asking me to show them how to play so many of these types of songs, especially songs by the Beatles, that these ladies have breathed new life into. I am thankful for that. They are very straight forward and talented.
I have to agree they are fresh voices in the music industry and they are fantastic ❤
When you're soon to turn 73, a tune like this, so well presented by two lovely ladies, brings back memories from the past. That's a great thing we all need. Brings back the memory of when I fell in love for the fist time - and it was great and touching to think of the first wobbly steps you took. So big bow for my favorite twins and thank you.
I just recently found this song (I'm 21 next month), and I love how it embraces pansexuality and the steps that are taken when somebody falls in love with someone they didn't expect to be so different than what they're used to. From the beginning curiosity, to the confusion, to the love. It's all there. I'm a pansexual woman myself, and this song really hits home for me. These girls did a great job covering the song.
I am 68, an old roadie from the 60s and 70s and all I can say is “damn kids these days just Gotta make an old man shake his head… in wonder”
Keep it up ladies you’re truly some thing special. 💕🇨🇦💕
Another old roadie agrees 100%
I think good ol' dad has a lot to with it, too. 😉
Great rendition of one of the greatest rock songs ever. The Kinks and Ray Davies I’m sure approve! Well done!
This is the most brilliant rendition of this song I've ever heard. Your voices mesh perfectly and your enthusiasm puts your version over the top
Yay to that enthusiasm! One can feel it!
Check out their covers of Beatles tunes. Especially the ones played live in the Cavern Club where the Beatles started.
Check out the cover by Lake Street Dive.
@@CountBlackula6 Yes, that cover is absolutely brilliant. But I have never been disappointed with anything these two girls do; they are absolutely fantastic!
@@CountBlackula6 Can I say I love them both!?
Good, clean copy - no gimmicks or auto-tune rubbish .. Old-School, the way it should be .. Well played girls.
They always honor the real song.
'and good support and accompaniment from pops too!
Very talented ladies
@@liner011f7 I'd like something more different than the original but...
Absolutely awesome I’m 75 and had to listen over and over again 👌😍😍😍🇦🇺❤️❤️❤️
Same here, and i am 69 . There,s nothing like the classics !
Wonderfully talented girls. Re-living my youth again (I'm 72) and loving every minute of it. Many thanks.
Wow! Best cover of "Lola" ever! Unrivaled harmonies from Mona and Lisa, not to mention their awesome instrumental prowess and versatility! And their dad ain't half bad either! Whether classic covers or fresh originals, this family always impresses!
Gorgeous , classy and Superb ..., Monalisa Twins forever.....
These 2 girls are absolutely totally gorgeous and so good at the music game. Hard not to LOVE!
I swear, there hasn't been even ONE song (original AND covers) that isn't top notch and superbly done. Thank you for ANOTHER well done offering, Mona, Lisa, and Rudi!
Guys, listen to their originals if you haven't, and buy them. Support these ladies, they're making so much good happen
The originals are special. I can't stop listening to them. They are good but are 'getting better all the time'.....
Neither has accepted my marriage proposal..., and i own a guitar or 2....... BTW that's a lovely tune
@@rodneycaupp5962 You're funny.
already ordred
Orange has some fabulous original tunes! I am stuck on the Duo Sessions. The clean, not overly produced cuts, are perfection!
One of the great rock tunes of all time. You ladies (and your papa) honored the tune with a GREAT cover!
Way to go Mona and Lisa!
Your cover of The Kinks' "Lola" is magnificent!!
Lisa, I love your little Fender 🎸, and Mona's fun and funny expressions are priceless ☺️
Kudos to your Papa Rudi as well 😃
Thanks for the smiles and happiness 😁
Wonderful performance ladies. Nice to see Mona taking some of the lead vocal again. Would love to see you do "Sunny Afternoon" someday. Thanks so much for making this video for us. Good to see Rudi on bass and keyboard. Hope you all stay safe and keep on being so sweet and adorable.
AND WATERLOO SUNSET!
So much fun!!!
You guys awesome
Absolutely Amazing. Perfect celebration for Lola's 50th birthday. 💖💛
Man, this group has matured into something amazing! I’ve enjoyed the ride and am looking forward to see (and hear) what’s next.
Funny you should say that. I just watched Mona singing "Twist and Shout" as a thirteen year old. She was good then, now she's great. They both are. I really really hope I can see them live someday. I'll put it on my bucket list.
I'm a big fan of these girls. And I'm an old man that hates everything lol.
Same here Paul !
Me too.. miserable bastard I am lol
I was lucky enought to see the Kinks live way back when. This version is so much more fun and better with beautiful Mona and Lisa singing these lyrics!! You two really ROCK!!
One of the greatest lyric moments in pop "...but I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man and so's Lola". Brilliant.
It is a great line and I am surprised that so many people finally get it
when the song gets to that line
I've watched this video close to 50 times now and I still get a chuckle out the heavy emphasis on the second syllable of Lo-LA...they really kick that out. GREAT JOB ladies...Bravo!!!! Definitely a favourite video of mine.
I just had a smile on my face throughout this whole video - this was so enjoyable.
“Lola” EXPLODES at 0:34, and I play it loud over and over. Whooof! Love the way Papa Rudi’s bass picks you up and carries you like an undercurrent off into the song. Of the contagious things in the world, I'm so grateful I've contracted the Twins and “Lola” and not that other thing. Every time I see this, which is often, I just want to jump up and make fabulous music myself. Every time! And every time, mine's not that fabulous, but I can't help myself.Thank you!
Really good. One of my favorite songs of all time. They killed it.
Hit it out of the park. Gets better every time I listen to it.
After 12 weeks of self-isolating that was just what I needed - colourful musical fabulousness! Thank you.
Brilliant. Version of A classic Song Xx😉👍😀
Ray Davies has to be really happy with. I know that I am. I was 23 then so have loved this song for 50 years. Well done, as always. It has to take a lot of work to put out a video like this. A whole lot of forethought and planning. One shot of the whole song and many shots of the different segments that are incorporated into the video. I guess that Papa Rudi does that computer work. These videos look seamless.
I was 20 years old at that time. This song is 50 years old. Only something that good can live through the years!
18, and I enjoyed the song but it really confused me. I was very naive.
A Classic and a great rendition👍🎶old songs can be a little confusing 😂😎✌️
@@armadillotoe What is confusing? You use past tense with naive so honestly, your post confuses me. lol :)
Sometimes the UA-cam rabbit hole takes you to somewhere wonderful. Today I discovered the MonaLisa Twins. Amazing.
Best cover version I've seen. So crisp and clean. You hear every word. Well done for a great production. I was a student when the original came out, which I have on vinyl. I'm a teacher now, and it's fantastic to see current students appreciate this song.
Vous êtes trop top je vous kif bravo
Isn’t this wonderful? A brilliant new twist on one of the great 60s classic numbers. The seemingly effortless perfection can only come from a huge amount of hard work over years. Thank you for this.
Well I am watching this again just love it and there is one proud father.
I absolutely love, love, love your cover of "Lola" by the Kinks. It's one of my favorite covers. It is so energetic and fun. The vocals are awesome, but that's a given on any song you do. Love Mona's guitar rhythm and her tempo drumming; spot on. Also love Lisa's picking a little guitar and a lot of guitar! The video is great work showing, not only your talents, but also how much fun you are having. I always have fun watching this video and it always cheers me up. A fantastic cover!!
It melts my old heart to see the music of my generation passed on by talented musicians like MLT! Rock on!
Wow! You sang the "original" version using "Coca-Cola" instead of Cherry Cola". Awsome!
Jesus your easily excited 😂
@@ralfmalf5828 Bollocks to you! This matters - a tiny push back against commercial censorship.
@@daibhiofiacra4162 Ah , I see! Makes sense. But they've changed the location as well. 'I met her in a club down in Notting Hill.'
Cherry Cola was only for the BBC's no advertising rules. Both versions exist in the Kinks' recordings.
@@ralfmalf5828 And you seem like a stick in the mud.
You two have Never failed to put a BIG Smile on my face! I wish I could see you live, in concert! 😁 😘 😁
You ladies never cease to amaze me. after 55 years in the music business and work with countless artists I can say with all certainty that your fan base will continue to grow.Wonderful take on a great song
Can't get enough of them, their music is so tight, oh and thanks Ladies and the band for bringing back the music of my time, all you guys, your father all the band are making that music...what it was, is, and will be. Peace Love Y'all...coming from Canada.
Absolutely wonderful cover of Lola. It's like a new song again.
WOW will be buying all your albums!!!!!!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What more could you ever want? Two gorgeous young ladies and a great song sung and played brilliantly.
Oh! And we can't forget dad too. Nice one pops ;-))...
You ladies are SO great and quite wonderful. Terrific musicianship and voices. I love listening to you.
Such lovely production on this, I've heard countless covers of this song over the last 40 years and this is one of the best 👍
Absolutely a wonderful version of this classic song I just love it and I can't stop playing it
These ladies are so talented. Please support them. This video is just a sample of how good they are. And their original music is in a class by it self. As they both say ...stay groovy!
Most excellent performance and production. I'm so in love. Ear and eye candy. Props to dad, too.
These two are so joyful.
These gals rock!!!
Very nice. Love the song. Thank you for sharing
Really nice guitar work in addition to everything else.
I just realized its #LolaDay when looking up the original. Great hearing Mona sing lead vocals, great cover...with your clear english its the first time that I really listened to the lyrics and the story of the song :)
“Lola” EXPLODES at 0:34, and I play it loud over and over. Whooof! Papa Rudi’s bass is a big part of it and a big part of a lot of MonaLisa Twins music. He comes in hard and high in the mix (he said, as if he knew about mixes) but without being intrusive. The tone is beautiful in a way I'd like to know more about, and it picks you up and carries you like an undercurrent off into the dreamy realm of the song. Thank you!
Excellent song choice and you both have done a phenomenal job on this amazing song with your beautiful voices!!!!!! Thanks for this awesome song 💖🤗👌
YOU TWO HAVE BEATEN TIME!!!
BEEN PLAYING TOGETHER A LIFETIME....
AND ARE STILL YOUNG!!!!
EACH UNIQUELY TALENTED!!! THANK YOU BOTH!!!
FOR THE MUSIC & VIDEOS.
LIVE LONG & PROSPER.
One of my favorite MLT videos. First, a great song selection! Second, you cover all the instruments - with a helping hand on keyboards, bass and video from Papa Rudi! Third, you girls look like you are having so much fun while producing this! EX-cellent on all levels. Keep the music coming MLT!
What a good job of a great old Kinks tune. I bet a lot of coots like me sat up and listened to this one. All the garage bands of the 60's loved the Kinks. My mom and dad got more than they wanted of Kinks' songs. Thanks for sharing this well done version with us. You ladies are quite special. I love listening to you.
Best cover so far I have listen to this well over a hundred times and it makes me smile every time!
Another awesome cover from Mona and Lisa. And so nice to see Papa Rudi joining in on bass and keyboards on this wonderful fiftieth anniversary cover of a Ray Davies’ classic. He would no doubt be impressed.
I just love Lisa’s outfit here. There should be more Orange in this clockwork, lockdown world. Also great to see Lisa playing the electric mandolin and Mona continuing the recent trend of her taking lead vocal duties.
Thank you Rudolf for also including some of her drumming in this video. Mona, your father would no doubt be impressed with your acting skills. You've obviously had an excellent mentor. 💛❤️
love it love it love it. dad is now in assisted living and this is just what i needed. God save the Kinks-God save the MonaLisa Twins
Great cover of a great song.
I've listened to this song literally several hundred times between the original and live versions and it's so ingrained in my head that hearing this version is like getting slapped in the face. But in a good and necessary way, like when someone is delirious or comatose and that slap wakes them up or saves their lives, this really woke me up and got my attention! Weird Al did a brilliant take, but that of course was parody. This is a true tribute. So refreshing and so different! And, like many others, I just get a big smile from the bottom of my soul when Mona makes that happy face with the tambourine.
Amazing. There is so much talent on the internet, and these two are one of the best.
Wow!! Must have been quite an honor to have Ray Davies get ahold of you!
This is an awesome cover! (my favorite)
50 year anniversary??
WTF?? am I that old? (guess so)
Thanks my friends!
You lovely ladies ROCK.. Can't wait to get my cd's. Love your music..
The twins are so talented and fun! Really uplifting. Parents are so supportive. Good feeling story!
MonaLisa twins two very multi-talented musicians and singers and great cover tunes artists. Amazing passion for rock and pop songs. Bravo!
Fantastic ! The best version ever from this song. It+s nice to see father Rudi too on piano, bass and camera ! Happy Lola Day Mona and Lisa ! Stay groovy !
I recall when this hit the air. It was the same day as our Graduation from HS and was already in heavy rotation on AM. Since we were a farming community we'd been out of school since the latter part of May. One thing we spoke about that evening was this song. The innuendo was not missed by us, like many songs of the day, before and after contained such. "It's got a good beat and you can dance to it" -- to steal a saying from the granddaddy of TV Music Shows - "Dick Clark's American Grandstand".
Great job of bringing new life to this song. I love all that you 2 do, including your originals.
Listening to Lola since 1970 and you girls nailed it. Great song and great video!
A superb cover of yet another great classic, The Kinks were yet another awesome group of the 60s and I still enjoy their music, 'keep-em-comin' MonaLisa, I love them all !
Friday June 26, 2020...My Guitar Gently Weeps tops 4 million views ...Congrats to the Twins for another milestone..and...later today or tomorrow Drive My Car will top 4 million....thank you girls for giving us some great music!!!!
Love Lola! and Love the MonaLisa Twins....Great job!
My favorite MonaLisa Twins youtube! The strong vocals giving each twin their solo time coupled with the simple instrumentals make for a powerful combination. Thanks so much!!
So Good!!!!! Stay Groovy, Walt
it's so great to see young people bringing back some of the classics as though they are fresh spanking new songs. great version ladies!!!
These gorgeous two ladies must have put a spell on me. I have been listening to their music religiously the past several days. Just kidding, I thoroughly enjoy your recordings. Best Wishes from the USA 🇺🇸.
Smashing! Love the way it builds momentum. And Mona's rough voice is absolutely perfect. Great fun!
I LOVE this version. your great !!!!!!
Very colorful cover, I enjoyed it a lot!
This is you showing off all you've got going on -- great song, singing, playing, personality, charm, it's got it all, you've got it all. One of my very favourites.
These 2 girls are just so beautiful and so talented. I Love Them to Death!
such a good song
You never cease to amaze. Brilliant!!
Great, great song. Great, great cover.
A great tribute to a great band. Thank you for keeping outstanding music alive and current.
WONDERFUL!!!!
You are the most talented duo I ever seen for the last decade . I just love it , Greetings from Thailand.
Great energy! Good to see dad take some limelight also. Love the work station!
There are a few songs in this world that I have always thought could never be respectably covered by other artists. "Lola" was one of those songs.
It was until now, I should say. You've produced an absolutely wonderful and memorable rendition of this old song. Kudos to all of you.
I agree wholeheartedly and I'm sure (Sir) 'Uncle' Ray, young Dave, Mick & Co. will be most impressed with this. It's by far the best cover of this great song I've ever heard and, having listened to so many of Mona and Lisa's renditions on here, I think it's YOUR best, too, ladies. I had a different 'personal number one' a week or so ago but, imho, I think this just tips the scales. Congratulations to the two of you - and your Dad - on a simply brilliant interpretation.
Try the version by The Raincoats. Less slavish to the original.
@@marcustulliuscicero237 You should also check out the cover by Lake Street Dive. I'm going to watch more of these two ladies.
@@marcustulliuscicero237 Thanks for the recommendation. Was not keen on Lola. Liked there other tracks though.
Great observation! A great cover.
Great performance of this great song, I was just a teenager when this was popular.
I agree The Kinks are also a favorite group of mine “ Girl you really got me “ is another one of their classics I love that song. You did an excellent cover of “ Lola “ really enjoyed your version of it and it was nice to see you both back and great as ever.
Thank You, I’m looking forward to any new and up coming projects
stay groovie
Whenever I watch your Lola video, it is a wonderful delight seeing you both and Papa Rudi in the studio, in your artistic element, on the guitars, drums, keyboard, and singing. Your "Lola" is all your own full of the MonaLisa Twins magic, so captivating, a brilliant version to make the Kinks and all their fans proud! Job well done. Your music is the best of the best on UA-cam today.
This is my wife’s favorite MonaLisa Twins cover. I can not choose a favorite. If you like this, listen to any of their original songs. This band sounds like they just jumped out of the past, and luckily landed right here for us to enjoy. Bravo!
True music right there....outstanding!
Back again for my daily dose of Lola. I wish this could be on one of your CDs. I really love this cover !!❤️❤️
This is the first video I ever saw with these two wonderfully talented women; am seeking them out more and more...especially their Beatle covers.
Great version! Loved this smiling and full of joy cover! The world needs more of this.
Nice... i liked.. nice beat.. Lolaa...
