    Dude I wish there were more channels like yours. There's so much good stuff out there for design, but virtually nothing on my radar for art direction besides your channel.

      WumboCorp I really appreciate that. Yea, I’m just trying to provide a little value I wish I had when I was entering the industry. Hope you can get something from it.

    This was a great video! Very helpful. Just made my boxes and ready to get to work. Thanks, Kevin 🙏🏻

      So I'm at box 31 and I'll admit, I started using AI to help me with some more ideas. I know you gave us questions, but I already used those questions to help me get to 31. How will I ever get to 100? Any other tips on how to just make the ideas flow? Are you timing yourself? Are you intentionally jotting down stupid ideas just to get through the exercise?

    Your channel is very insightful.
    I wish more of these will be available for younger creatives.

    When brainstorming and creating these boxes, should I come up with an idea from thin air? Or base it off something that’s already made and try to promote the product? I’m just a little lost on where to start....

    • @OpenDoorCreative
      @OpenDoorCreative  4 роки тому +1

      AJ 12Melodies yes, you will try to create your own ideas around a product. So first you’ll pick a brand like Energizer Batteries and start to think of ads for it. Think about who you are selling them to and what would get them to pay attention and want to purchase your product. This video has probing questions to help get your mind thinking differently about your brand: Big Idea Sparking Questions For Your Ad Campaign. Hope that helps.

    • @OpenDoorCreative
      @OpenDoorCreative  4 роки тому +2

      And one more thing. After that, if you’re still feeling lost, try looking at ads. See how other products are advertised. Find ads you enjoy. Then, try to dissect what they did and apply the same problem solving it to a new product. At first, you will feel like you suck. We all start out that way. Just keep going and be kind to yourself.

    All good tips for getting going. Except in your example of "allergies are annoying." You took a starting concept and applied a different technique. That is, taking it that one step further to all the things that are annoying. You may or may not have needed to for a solid campaign. How about talking about that in your next video? That decision process...how far to push a concept...or not. BTW, I had come up with a campaign for a naturopath client of mine years ago who specialized in sleep disorders. Our campaign was "Get to Sleep without Pills" -- more the problem-solution variety of headline.

    • @OpenDoorCreative
      @OpenDoorCreative  3 роки тому +1

      Appreciate your comment! I believe finding the spin on the insight is crucial to bringing the idea across the finish line. A lot of the time, just stating a truth can fall flat unless your spin is in the headline itself. Typically, I try to push way further than necessary and then reign it back in if I go to far. There’s a better chance the campaign will become more unique, something that somebody else hasn’t yet thought of or executed already, that way.

      @@OpenDoorCreative Totally agree. I think giving examples of pushing too far or not enough would be interesting. I always encourage my clients to take "creative risk" within appropriate bounds of course for their target market.

    Hi Kevin,
    Can you recommend any course which teaches something like what you have been teaching in your videos like these.

    • @OpenDoorCreative
      @OpenDoorCreative  4 роки тому +1

      There are many great design courses on skillshare or lynda. There are less resources out there teaching art direction specifically which is part of why I made this channel. But portfolio schools are a great opportunity if you’re able to attend one.

    • @rajatnawani6562
      @rajatnawani6562 4 роки тому

      @@OpenDoorCreative Thanks for the recommendations. I was mainly asking about course on how the thought process works for building an ad and the strategy to build that.

    • @OpenDoorCreative
      @OpenDoorCreative  4 роки тому +1

      RAJAT NAWANI I do have some videos on the channel that explore this. See the video on making an ad campaign from scratch. I don’t know of any other online courses that talk through the creative process. Portfolio school would be that. You could buy the books hey whipple, squeeze this and the creative process illustrated. Those are great as well.

      Hmm, usually youtube notifies me when there is a reply, but I guess not this time, :(.
      Although I think this is a great idea, my style really differs because i usually do quantity>quality, not to say that all my ideas are just bad, its just that my clients want me to push things out asap, so I really do not have the time to brainstorm some unique and creative ideas.

    • @OpenDoorCreative
      @OpenDoorCreative  6 років тому +1

      inPHAMous totally understand. Everyone brainstorms a little differently. When I’m on a super time crunch, it may be that I only have time to do 50 boxes but I absolutely believe that you should get every single idea floating around in your head on paper. You never know where a good idea can come from.

    HI!
    Can you tell what exactly film Art Directors do or can you make a video about that ?

    • @OpenDoorCreative
      @OpenDoorCreative  3 роки тому +1

      Because I was never a film art director, I don’t have the expertise to speak too much on that. From my perspective though, I believe that a film art director is in charge of overseeing the artistic direction of the film: how set, props, effects, and overall production come together to give a mood-evoking visual feel to the film.
