  • This is George Square in Glasgow. The square is named after King George III and was fully developed in 1801. It's one of 6 public squares in the city of Glasgow. The large building on the left is Glasgow City Chambers which was built in 1888 and became the headquarters of Glasgow City Council in 1996. There are numerous statues and monuments in this square of people who made contributions to Glasgow and Scotland as a whole, including Queen Victoria, Robert Burns and a 80 foot high column celebrating Sir Walter Scott. The square is also a popular gathering spot for festivals, rallies, ceremonies and even riots, including the Battle of George Square in 1919 which saw violent protests for a 40 hour working week.
