EXCELLENT
Hi gentil man, you are rock
Take care
Excellent teacher. You sound more American than Irish.
Very helpful
Very fantastic and easy to follow
Glad you like it :) Sorry the sound quality is bad... my newer videos are better and easier to hear!
Fab!
Thanks Jay. Useful lesson , l love British accent, but it's so tough .
Yeah it's quite different and difficult if you have studied American English before. Plus most English language courses and materials use American English, and movies and TV shows too. Use whichever accent is more comfortable and easier for you.
helpful video
it's very helpful!!!! you're wonderful!!!
Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos :)
I'm from Thailand so, thank you!
You're very welcome!
you're an excellent teacher! Can you do a video explain the pronunciation of WILL with all pronoun? thanks bye bye
That video about contractions are amazing, some people told me to watch videos with american english teachers because that accent is the best to learn, and the other accents are unclear and confused to understand, but now I see They were totally wrong, you're an amazing teacher, your explanation was great
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Everybody has different accents, some clearer than others, but keep up the good study and you'll have no problem understanding everybody :-)
Thx for my homework
Thanks
My pleasure ;-)
I really got it . Thank u sir

we use contractions with every single word
I'm not sure what you mean? Please explain!
Hi Jay,
I enjoy your video on contractions. There is one point that confused me. It is between WHAT ARE YOU and WHAT DO YOU.
Many English teachers pronounced WHAT ARE YOU as WHATCHA and WHAT DO YOU as WHADDYA. But they sound the same in your video.
Could you explain more in detail why they should sound the same?
Hi S. Khuma Thangjom - good question! Both WHAT ARE YOU and WHAT DO YOU can sound the same when contracted. WHAT DO YOU has two contracted forms, 'whatcha' and 'whaddya' - depending on the sentence. I think I'll make a video about this subject to explain it further - stay tuned :-)

Hi,
I am from India.
Could you some video for English grammar and accent
Hi +aafrin shaikh, thanks for the suggestion. I'll be making more videos soon - I'll add it to the list :)
I need to understand of morpheme please
"He says ya'll ain't mailed in his stipends" That's a quoting from a book. What about these contractions? Thanks!
Hi Petar, in this sentence the contraction ya'll is a shortened form of 'you all' and used mainly by American Southerners as a plural pronoun.
Ain't is an informal contraction of are not (in this case, but also am not or is not).
Hope that helps :)
Thanks a lot.
You are still teaching in Korea? Excuse for asking that!
Petar, Croatia
+Petar My pleasure. And yes I I'm still teaching in South Korea -- over 7 years now!!
Can I use contractions in formal Speaking?
It depends on the level of formality. For example if you're speaking to a large crowd at a birthday party you could use some basic contractions like don't and shouldn't, but if you're speaking at a board meeting I wouldn't use many contractions at all.
@@SpeakEnglishwithJay Ohhhhh, thank you. So much! I asked you that because I don't want to sound unnatural and inappropriate thank you so much.
I have another question. What recommendations would you give me to improve my listening skills in English??
You're very welcome! Well, for listening, really the best thing to do is listen to English as much as you can. Download some interesting Podcasts and listen to them while you're on the bus or cleaning up or whatever. For a more detailed study you could try a Ben Franklin exercise, where you listen to a short piece of audio (maybe one or two sentences) and try write down what you hear, then make notes about the pronunciation and contractions etc. Google "Ben Franklin exercises" and check them out. Good luck!
@@SpeakEnglishwithJay Thanl you. I asked you that because my weakest skill is listening but I hope to get better
Thank you so so so so so so much. God bless you.
I appreciate your efforts but if the video was louder thanks
Alexandra Alexandra thanks (again!) for your comment. I realise the sound quality isn't great, but my new videos will have better audio thanks to updated recording equipment and improved editing :-)
I'm waiting for more sir :)
Hello Jay, this is American English, isn't it? I mean you are pronouncing all the "r" sounds, so it must be American, am I right?
Hi +Kilgore Trout, actually I'm from Ireland and I speak British English. Not all dialects of BrEng sound the same :)
+Jay King at ELTA Korea Thank you Jay for your answer, I asked you this question because I'm studying British English but it's quite easier for me to speak it while pronouncing all the r sounds. Would you please tell me if it is considered as bad British English if I keep speaking it that way, with all r sounds pronounced?
+Kilgore Trout I speak British English but I pronounce a lot of my 'r' sounds. Do you think that's bad!? I don't know how your accent/pronunciation sounds, but unless it's really strange I wouldn't worry about it!
Kilgore Trout thank you my teacher
Ireland Boys YE YE
Nica Trencio The BEST! Haha ;-)
