Pretty decent tutorial. Just a few tips. You don’t want to confuse your viewers with too many applications. The dynamo component was completely unnecessary. Whenever you jump between 4 different applications, it confuses people. I found that you can draw the rooms in the synaptic designer in 5 seconds, so dynamo was overkill for this example.
I like to make videos that consider both the mega and macro project scales, so that was mainly why I inserted that. Probably more fun than watching me draw filled regions! My goal with my videos is not only to give a workflow to follow, but also one to explore. A lot of my 'follow me' content will be online course format soon (not on UA-cam) and I'll likely focus on broader topics or beginner workflows here. They'll definitely be more streamlined than how I record my YT videos. I actually took this whole workflow into dynamo eventually to bypass the need for manual work in synoptic designer. Might be of interest; ua-cam.com/video/KmIc2S_d-GY/v-deo.html
You're welcome! I have an updated workflow here using Dynamo as well, a bit more complex but it bypasses manual work in synoptic. ua-cam.com/video/KmIc2S_d-GY/v-deo.html
I'm using a dynamo script I quickly put together that generates filled regions for rooms of a particular level. It might be worth checking out my updated workflow here, much more powerful; ua-cam.com/video/KmIc2S_d-GY/v-deo.html
I know some firms using plans in Power BI as a model audit and element location tool. They tag elements by room, connect their data to Power BI and then focus/highlight the relevant room(s) when viewing particular elements in the model.
Hi, Thanks again for another great video. I have a quick question, I want to try this with wall locations so I don't have room numbers to link to my floor plan. The synoptic panel doesn't seem to recognise my wall locations when putting it in the measure field. Any idea how I can get this to link? Cheers Kieran
The synoptic panel requires data to be embedded in shape elements - did you follow the step where you add the information to shape elements on the website? If so make sure you add them as values in the synoptic element as well.
You should be able to collect them as all elements of an element type i believe. Be sure to check out my latest series from about 2 months back where i show how to export rooms straight to svg files also.
@@manojvictor66 this is likely either due to a room having more than two curves in its boundaries (due to being a donut type shape with holes inside), or there are curves around the edge it can't rationalize due to curvature. @@manojvictor66 not a simple one node solution. It requires you to loop deeper into the room boundaries and why they might be failing. Either more than 1 loop or faceted curves are the likely cause. Like i said try my newer tutorial to see if this helps.
Technically yes, although it's a different tool/workflow. Check out the workflow from Vcad, the tool isn't free, but it appears capable of nesting a model with the ability to slice and filter; community.powerbi.com/t5/Data-Stories-Gallery/PowerBi-and-Bim-model-data/td-p/696837 www.bimservices.it/
Hi there, I did exactly the same procedure as shown but I have problems at 17:42, I can´t see the icons to select the picture form the gallery, any idea??
Make sure you have at least a category and measure loaded, and that these fields line up with one of the fields you associated by name with the graphic earlier. This should trigger this context sensitive button to appear.

just re-watched this one. Really great content man, much appreciated. That saved me god-knows how much Angst.

Hi and thanks for the great tutorial. I was wondering what you're using for the input @6:42. Thanks!

Great stuff. I wanted to find out. How can this work flow be applied in practice.

Hi Gavin, great post - Just on the dynamo script what package has the Input and Output nodes? thanks
Input and output are actually unique nodes that become available in a custom node editor environment out of the box.
It's really great.. I would like to know the process to get fill regions from Dynamo. It would help me a lot. Thanks

Okay..will go through and let you know
Thank you , this is awesome .
I came here to learn this .
and What about 3D Model to Power bi ?
You're welcome! 3d model to power BI would need an addin such as vcad (paid unfortunately);

¡Me alegro de que haya ayudado!
This is a very helpful video. I was trying to convert autocad to visio and viso to floor plan it was a waste of time. Thank you!!!
You're welcome Serhat!
Great Tutorial
Thanks!
@@AussieBIMGuru But there were two rooms in my model that gave the error - This curve will make the loop not contiguous. Any work around on that?
