    I like judging a figure's articulation on a case-by-case basis, depending on the character. Some like NECA's Frankenstein has enough articulation to make me happy because I don't expect that character to be super agile, but some like Spider-Man I expect top notch articulation. As a photographer, as long as I can get a pose I'm satisfied with, I'm a happy camper.

  • @AlphaProto
    @AlphaProto 3 роки тому +4

    When it comes to big characters that don't move much like King Pin I don't mind limited articulation. With characters that are more agile, I want them to be able to pose more.
    SOTA's Street Fighters had a great sculpt but could not put their hands together for Hadouken's and Psycho Crushers.
    I buy female figures now but growing up I didn't even buy an April O'Neil for my ninja turtles to play with.
    Now I collect female characters. There are a lot of cool characters that really kick butt. Also, the characters that are parts of teams like Power Rangers. They look good in displays.

    Twenty years ago when McFarlane was at his heyday and pumping out super detailed and awesome looking posable statues on a regular basis, I was completely fine with buying them.
    Now that the times have changed, and we as consumers expect good sculpt AND good articulation on our action figures... no. Not having good articulation is a huge minus.

    Questions of the day:
    I'm OK with posable statues, but this is an action figure and I fully expect it to be well articulated so we can get more dynamic poses. This figure has neither sculpt nor articulation.
    Next, I WOULD buy female figures if they are done right. Most ML females are not done well and so I pass on them more often then I pass on male figures. Example, I will pass on this but I will get Deathstrike

    Its a shame because some female characters get the work but others don't. The new Lady Deathstrike is really nice, but the fact Habro still doesn't give all female figure double jointed elbows and it feels like they just don't care if they can stand or not, is so unacceptable in 2021.
    There's also some irony here; they won't give female characters diverse or curvaceous sculpts and the argument is that it may be demeaning to the character? But it comes off as an excuse to reuse molds and it actually takes away the proper characterization from many female characters.

    I collect female legends, as they are some of my favorite characters(storm, jean, rogue, psylocke, emma). They need to make them as voluptuous as they make the men, especially if jim lee, joe mad, and Andy Kubert art is the source material for the figures. Most of the women in the line look juvenile.

    • @theraven268
      @theraven268 3 роки тому

      I might be wrong on this, but i think Marvel leans on them to not have shapes on the women. It's part of this weird trend where it's sexist to have "exaggerated" female bodies (even though real people have very similar figures) while you can do whatever you want with the male form.

    I like my action figures to be able to do action..that being said..Im not an articulation snob either. Like I don't need double jointed elbows if the elbows can reach at least 90 degrees or even 45 degrees. I also dont need a butterfly joint and personally I dont really like them much cause they never seem to work well enough to justify messing up the sculpt. I am willing to sacrifice some movement if the sculpt is really good. Think Mythic Legions..they have amazing sculpts and the articulation is there to pose them enough..they are just not super poseable and thats fine with me.
    And yes I love female figures but Hasbro refuses to use their good molds for them. The Moonstone body should have been used way more. I dont buy the super skinny figs anymore and only try to get the ones with better proportions. Vote with your wallet. Sadly this was a disappointing offering of a look for this character that I've wanted for a while. All the "statue-ness," non-poseability, and the inability to stand aside, the biggest offense is the dead-eyed look of the character's face. Unfortunately, it's faithful to how she's drawn today where she's drawn like a dead-faced drug addict rather than the cute, lively faced girl she looked like in the 60's when this particular look debuted. As for the question of the day, I've never been one who's needed so much articulation that the figure can scratch their own ass, but the figure should stand up on their own. Screw these high heels. EVERYONE should get flats!

    • @theraven268

After she fell over for the seventh time in s row. I wanted to make her fly without a flight stand. I've never done that to a figure before. This one came the closest to being launched across the room. It takes a lot for me to get upset. Every time knocking all my other figures in the display over. Which drives me bonkers. So let's sell female figures that lack the same basic poseable features of their male counterparts.
    Let's also design them so they are really tiny because most women are of course 60% smaller then men.
    Like do the bare minimum to make a female figure.
    So of course I have no idea why they don't sell better.
    Female characters as toys have been handicapped with the marketing pushing that boys should only play with male characters, otherwise they aren't "men".
    Then on top of that they just designed female figures poorly as a cherry on top.
    I got the Lady Jaye figure. I think it's one of the few if not only one with double jointed elbows.....something standard on all male figures.
    Lower ab crunch is done on the Power Rangers line of figures. So why is that not standard on the ML figures as well? Or even the Gi Joe line?
    It absolutely confuses me that Hasbro won't do the bare minimum. Todd Minimal Articulation Primus Mcfarlane gives the female figures the same level of articulation as the guys.
    This figure specifically, how can Hasbro charge full price for that? This is a basic figure from their $10 budget line.
    To me there is a basic level of articulation all these figures should have.
    Some designs though (like a ninja/warrior/wizard) should have a higher level of posing if this is about cost.
    But Hasbro does the same buck for all the female characters. They got a few for the guys.
    Make a buck with the better articulation.
    They aren't statues. If I wanted a statue, i'd buy a statue. If I wanted to keep it in the box, I'd print out a picture on card stock.

    I was happy when I first saw that they were remaking Jean in this costume, because their last try, in the 2pack with Cable, was just butt ugly... a goofy looking, super flat face that always annoyed me. And while I'm no big fan of screaming faces (unless they give us multiple head options), the package art for this figure has her in this beautifully animated pose, where her face is full of life... but the figure inside just looks so bored... like she's watching an old episode of Columbo at 3am that she's seen 50 times. And apparently the boredom goes straight down to her toes. It's like Hasbro thought it worthwhile to sculpt Marvel girl as she would appear on a character study sheet. Disappointing.

    Ugh. Not the Marvel Girl figure I hoped for. No thanks.
    Yes, I collect figures of female characters but they have to be comicbook accurate and poseable.

    Marvel comics artists has been trying to convert women into blue hair manly looking women to match the mirror, seems the figures are going the same way.
