Sadly cheap cars are very rare to find these days as you said but that car is a little gem of a find! There quite rare these days as well and it should serve you well as reliable transport and allow you to work on George as well! Its a win win :)👍
Great find, and with that reg it could have been registered by peugeot UK in Coventry. There are only 10 XTDs on the road and they were quite well specified for the time, illuminated vanity mirrors is posh! That black plastic thing next to the map light should be the infra red receiver for the remote locking.
Congratulations Alex! It is very nice, I like this classic Peugeot! I'm assuming the engine is a non-turbo diesel, but it looks like it does not really need one. My first thought Alex was naming the 106 Penny, as Penny Peugeot, that name automatically came into my head! Between this and George, both would give you plenty of content for your channel, which I enjoy! I know you will check all the important items such as filters, belts, hoses, etc. And over the winter you can address the minor items that need attending. Enjoy Alex, and good luck 🤞!
Yes non turbo. I think lol.... The previous owner has just had it serviced but I may well get the oil change done again in the new year. Old diesels dont like being neglected!
Good buy that, same engine they used in the metro diesel, do you film with a DJI OSMO? If so what type and how do you find it? Also what screen mount are you using? I’m looking to upgrade…..
Hello mate. Thanks for the comment. Yes I believe its the same engine. Yes I do indeed record on a DJI OSMO Pocket. Picked mine up second hand for about £100. I'm using a standard windscreen phone mount at present. Nothing fancy ;)
@@AllThingsAlex I thought it was a pocket by the shadows, pocket 1 obviously tempted by one myself although I’d heard the microphone wasn’t the best on a 1, 2 is a tad expensive for us poorer channels though 😊
I run a Peugeot 106 diesel because it is comfortable and economical. Yours looks in relatively good condition for an R reg. Rust-protection was mostly good, except for under the boot floor, in the nearside rear wheel arch and the bumper mounts under the front wings. I painted those areas with Hammerite. Have a quick look underneath to check if yours will be OK over the winter. If so, you can wait until Spring, then clean and paint underneath. As you say, it is worth keeping up with the maintenance on the bodywork, considering that your car has been looked after.
Its solid and I do believe its been undersealed underneath. Sill ends have been welded in the past but they've gone to the trouble of painting the repair body colour, so I think its been largely looked after.
Hi Alex, I think now the winter is here, people would like to see a cold start video with a walk around. I know I’d be interested in that. Also, has the car been reliable so far? I’m considering a 1996 1.5 Xnd but can you really rely on a 26 year old car? Hmm I don’t know. Any info would be helpful 👍
Hi thanks for your message. Theres a myth that older cars are for some reason less reliable. No so. Infact they are much simpler and easier to maintain. Modern stuff has far too much electronics and while it is possible to repair, a lot are simply scrapped due to the labour cost of tracing electrical faults. Yes I drive a 20+ year old diesel, and anything thats done 150,000 miles like mine does isnt suddendly going to stop working. Theres far less to go wrong and fault finding on something this age is far easier. I will do a cold start video for you! :)
@@AllThingsAlex you literally convinced me to buy a 1996 106xnd. 67000 miles. was about to pull out of the deal, but you changed my mind. I drove it back from Swindon to Cardiff and it ran fine. Will take some getting used to as no power steering, but it seems ok. Hopefully I won't regret my purchase 😄
I have a p reg 106 diesel. Had it 5 or 6 months and it’s been great. Got it at 57k now at 60k. Thermostat and radiator have been replaced. Sorted a couple of dodgy seatbelts but that’s all
I had an m reg one of these I had a Mondao 1.8 petrol I was putting £ 30 a week in it at the time in the early 2000s I got rid of it for the 106 the 106 would do a month on £15 of diesel it was the most economical car I have ever owned oh and the slowest but it changed my life as I could afford to go anywhere without thinking of cost I actually looked forward to filling it up😂
Hopefully that noise when driving isn't the clutch replacement cable. My Saxo VTR was making this noise, was pretty quiet got louder and louder next thing you know I needed to fit an entirely new clutch kit haha. Might be buying a Peugeot 106 this weekend myself, I like the look of the Saxo's/106/306's. The thing is though I think 106's are a tad more reliable than the Saxo's.

My all time favourite car. Had 3 and would happily have another. Just hard to find
Call the new car Jean! Nice find hope the cylinder head on the allegro goes OK!
Ideal winter hack, should be very economical & a rare car nowadays
Love these, a fine purchase!
Looks decent, enjoy the ride mate
