It's funny how many boards were like what you describe😉
I never had the chance to dial up RipCo, I hung around the DOOM BBS a lot. However I have been racking my brain trying to remember the RIP BBS I did go to where it had a graveyard tombstone menu and lighting would flash periodically in the background,
I lived in the Carol Stream area and worked at the now Defunct Venture Department store. I miss a lot of things from the time period like the Galaxy World arcade and Augustino's Rock & Roll Deli and getting a half pound Chicago Beef sandwich for $3.49 and as a poor college student it was a cheap glorious meal.
