Really good review, very thorough, and meticulous. I grew up in the eighties and can remember the first time I picked up a Nintendo controller and started playing games, it quickly became my favorite thing to do. I will definitely be picking one of these up. Thanks for the video!!
i own 2 similar carts and save and sram games were listed because if you play any of those it will take over the sram chip and overwrite its content so if you play kirby, and save, the save state will remain until you play any other game with save or sram feature listed, if you play kirby after kirby with any non sram games in between, save will remain, if you play any other using sram or save states, even if you won't save your game, the content of sram chip would be erased
The SRAM use is when the game uses the static ram on the cart as extra "work" ram. Like SMB3 has an extra 8KB of SRAM on the board (giving the system a total of 10KB). It's not battery backed, but it is required to play those titles. The big hardware difference between a savable game and a regular SRAM one is if there is a battery or not. It doesn't hurt to add the battery if it's not needed, but it does hurt to not have it when it is needed.
The NES doesn't contain any SRAM for saving. Back in the day, each cartridge that had a save function had a small amount of RAM and a watch battery(if this battery dies you'll need to replace it to get saving functionality back, as it's what keeps the RAM powered on to retain the data) which kept your data on cartridge when you removed the game from the system. These days they use flash memory instead, but this was the method for cartridge based consoles until the GBA.
I realise this video is 4 years old, but the Gaming Historian's video on the history of Tetris is very interesting and would answer your questions if you haven't already watched it.
SRAM use -> cartridge contains an extra SRAM chip, which is used as additional memory for the game. It's like if your SD card came with extra system RAM inside.
My grandmother ordered me one of these for Christmas and mine was different. My cartridge had 153 games and Bionic Commando worked perfectly fine. The battery save issue is still there but I knew about that when asking for it. I havent figured out all ten extra games but some games I have noticed that weren't here in this review were Duck Hunt, Mario Bros 2 (Japan version), Super Mario Bros all night Nippon ( I have no clue why it even exists), and I havent figured out the other 7 extras. I have still been loving it so far. Thanks for the review that encouraged me to buy one :)
4:53 games that use sram will delete your game save on a battery save game. also you can only save 1 game at a time, if you start another game that has battery saves it also deletes your game save. my cart was a normal nes cart on the inside, no famicom adapter inside by the way.
yup thats what happens. i just bought an everdrive, its way better than these and worth the money. there are so many good games that arent on here and you can play a bunch of translated roms, rom hacks and famicom disc system games. oh yeah cant forget the save states! you basically get an emulator for the original console.
I finished it the first time when i was 5 or 6. It was my first game and i love it still. However, megaman 10 released for the wii, omfg. That is a whole new level.
Startropics I and II, no sound. I guess is a glitch for the rom source. Also the timing error (accelerated) in some games like: Ducktales, SMB. Final Fantasy III is the worst, because wrong text in the windows (can not be read). Great Review! regards!
Fast games may be PAL versions. On my 150-in-1, Kirby, SMB2, Parodius, and possibly a handful of others are PAL version. Infact all versions of PArodius on these multicarts are PAL since the game used VRC4 mapper in the original Famicom but PAL version used MMC3 (and is also inferior due to timing and MMC3 artifacts).
Fun fact on Excitebike(and a few other games): The load/save functionality actually works, but they never released the datasette. If you can somehow link up a tape player to the expansion port on the bottom, you can load and save data to and from tape.
I'm mean c'mon you have a workbench with soldering iron. You could add a 4 or more position switch to sram to allow 4 or more different save files, each with a different sram banks.
FYI, SRAM use is to notify you that when you play those games your saves will get overwritten. That's not a glitch but a limitation of the cart. Depending on where you buy it, they notify you of that.
The good thing about these cartridges is it eliminated the problem of the red blinking light when inserting cartridges. Just insert these and leave it in. I had a 200 in 1 and still have a 150 in 1 but now I am looking for the new 825 in 1.
I have a thing called a Blinking Light Win installed in my toaster NES. It makes the NES into a straight load console. It comes with a tray and connector that you swap out yourself. No more pushing down cartridges. It just pushes in. Also makes it region free. I like this because I can still use the composite cables instead of RF. The model 2 NES only has RF and needs to be modded.
Just got mine in & Castlevania froze on me during frankenstein battle so I started over and got to the hallway with the grim reaper and low and behold it froze again. Sound issues at the sewers level 10 I think it was so I'm curious anyone else had that issue with this cart or do most just not get that deep into this particular game? I've read that original copies of the game has freezing issues in the same spots if they have chip PRG0 especially. PRG1 far less common suppose to have fixed it but still issues. I know years ago my 5 screw cart froze on final boss dracula twice but before I got this multicart I've been playing my 3 screw copy with no issues. I was pissed when it froze on me because this game is hard. It's like Dracula has cursed ever being able to beat it.
I got mine for $19.99. Works great! Wish it had punch-out too! But great deal for the money. I got the last $19.99 one. All other ones were $24 to $30. Got here from China in about 10 days. Couple glitches like he said but most I like play flawlessly.
The problem with these newer NES multi-carts is that they used a lot of hacked mappers to get newer games to work using older mappers and this causes video glitches, audio issues, and even timing glitches. The older multi-carts from Megacom and SuperVision are still the best when it comes to play exactly like the original, aside from erasing the company name from many of the title screens. But those stuck to the older first gen Famicom titles which were under 156KB and used very basic mappers. Black Box games and the like. I'd personally suggest just emulating these games with a Raspberry Pi instead of buying these new multi-carts from Aliexpress. They will be more accurate and you can play anything you like.
I have not checked, but I would take a guess that the warning in description is not right. the nes runs at VCC +5V does it not (from the 7805 regulator). unless it drops to 3.3v for the logic it will be the other way round, you may possibly damage the cart if it uses 3.3v logic. of course I could be wrong but If I am not I would guess that the components in the cart are 5v tollerant
I don't know if you've done a video on it, but an everdrive is an excellent option. It uses an sd card and you can put any games you want on it. It's great for playing hacks and homebrews on original hardware, and it even supports the vrc6 and used by the Japanese Castlevania III. It is definitely more expensive though.
Excitebike actually used the short lived Famicom data recorder (a tape deck) to save and load tracks. And you don't remember Goonies because it was never released on the NES. (Goonies II was)
final fantasy, black bass, shinobi, ninja Gaiden, master blaster, P.o.W., Breakthru, Ducktails, legendary wings, TMNT, tecmo bowl, super off road, gouls and ghost, gauntlet, Double dragon... There were some decent titles you mentioned but there's alot of great games that cartridge doesn't have that would of made it so much better... thanks for the trip down memory lane. Looks like I might have to break out the RetroPi..🤦♂️
@@mimszanadunstedt441 you should be willing to end one game and loose all the progress in behalf of a new game... not all the gammers have such spirit. But your a right: no doubt :)
Why games glitch out when they're on a multigame cartridge. There are two main reasons afaik: (There's likely more, but these two are common) 1: Game requires some hardware (extra chip/logics) that usually included with the original cartridge, which has to be either emulated or included in the cartridge. 2: Game uses addresses and instructions in such ways that it has to be patched/updated in order to work with multigame cartridges. It was simply not done in this case. I remember when I used a flashable cartridge for my Gameboy Advance that I had to "patch" games in order for them to work with the flashcart in question. Especially when multiple games was flashed with a bootmenu. Sometimes one could get the games to work if one flashed them in a single-game mode without boot menus. Otherwise, they show similar glitches as shown here with bionic commando.
I just ordered this cart, pretty happy that bionic commander is the only broken rom. I got the cart so its all good. I used to play it on my commando 64, its a good version.
I just found you, because I was searching for information about the cartridge. I think you should do more gaming stuff, good video! But I disagree with some of your opinions about some of those games, Goonies for example is a great, but hard game!
The only problem I can see with the cart using 3.3v parts is that it might wear out faster, I can't imagine it actually damaging the console, although if you get a undervolted high data pulse that can cause game glitches
Good Day! can i use that to my 1st generation NES like you are using in the Video?? or i just need to modify my console before i can use the multicartridge? Thanks in Advance! More Power!
I've bought a couple of these cartridges (a 150 Super Games In one, and a 400 in one) from HamyGames at AliExpress. They are great deals if you want to get a lot of classic games quick or get some rare Famicon games that were never released in the USA. I opened one up and it was a one-piece NES board, and thankfully they didn't use glue to hold it in.
I have the SuperGames 150-in-1..it's a red cartridge that has, well, 150 of some of the hardest to find games on it...including Little Samson, TMNT Tournament Fighters, Mega Man 1-6, Mighty Final Fight, etc....it was about the same price. I might pick this one up as well in case it has games not featured on the SuperGames 150-in-1
Hi Adrian. Thanks for this video! I have two question for you! :D The hdmiav2 does it work well with nes? The nes have composite video cable.. This not good for lcd tv.. I have a nes console with super mario bross original cartridge. The game work. But there is a strange problem. Mushrooms are sometimes visible in white flaky. White flash in half.. What could be your problem? Thanks for your answer!!
Excitebike feels to me like an Atari game.... that is to say, they didn't really understand the power and what it is that the NES could do other than low rent arcade ports. That said, I'm a fan of the 2600 so I'm cool with Excitebike.
09:18 Adventure Island is Wonder Boy over on the Master System where it is considered a classic. I suppose Super Wonder Boy is actually a lot better though.
That's a pity bionic commando does this glitch. I asked my friend who owns fc version of this cart and he has exactly the same problem with this cart. I wonder if this is a ROM problem or cart is lacking of some mapper that BC uses. Excuse me for my english, actually I'm from Russia :) Thank you for the video and good luck!
I have a translated copy of Pokemon Yellow for NES. It's interesting as well however I have a system that sometimes I have to wiggle the cart to work properly and If I power it on and it doesn't boot, it deletes the save data. I can run it on the SNES adapter to play NES games on that with it's own separate AV out and I can play it every time then. It's weird. I'm surprised it worked on the adapter because the GBA adapter didn't like flash carts.
CSIG1001 just wiggle it left and right, maybe pop it up and down some, maybe in and out a few times. You basically just want to rub away any light corrosion on the contacts.
Nintendo Tetris didn't get a Japan release which is why it's never on these carts. Instead they have a version called BPS Tetris which has awful controls.
Well fuck me, I wanted this for over a year, finally get it for Christmas and now theres a warning about it breaking NES consoles. I swear my luck is absolutely perfect.
I have been waiting soooo long for someone to review the same exact cartridge I've got this and several others I am just wondering though I'm wanting to start a video game review thing thing just like you how do you start it where do you begin and how do you do it can you give me some insights I want to do this cuz I have a boatload of games and some of the earlier I'm definitely a retro gamer and I love all these bootlegs I need some help here would you be willing to help me
...Probably going to download a emulator and try some of these, my old crt gives me a headache and the clone console my parents bought doesn't have the best game selection
I'm curious as to what game they have included that's labeled as Double Dragon 4, as Double Dragon 4 only became a game just a few months ago for the PS4, the NES only had Double Dragon 1-3.
how interesting, apparently that is actually a game called Target: Renegade, but it certainly looks and plays a lot like a Double Dragon game. Somewhere along the way someone unofficially rebranded it. Makes you wonder who and why exactly? I imagine to help boost the sales of bootlegs.
Can you open a Contra-168 in 1 multicart. I bought it and I am thinking " is there a 60 to 72 pin adapter inside" I dont have a game bit screwdriver so I cant open it when it comes from mail.
i went back in time, anyway, i used to have one of the contra games, one of my brothers and i got to the end on that one. im sure i had other games in there also, i just dont remember the names.
I have this exact cartridge and an original NES, but when I load this cartridge the screen is just black. The power is not flashing, and ally. Other games work fine in the nes. What could possibly be the issue?

I just bought this thanks to your demo. Apparently it runs on both NTSC- and PAL-machines. Thanks a lot, sir!

And now for the matinee : The Man Who Changed His Mind ; Starring Steve Martin , co - star ; Adrian .
I just bought a 500 in 1 for NES. It won't work in my Retron, so I guess I have to break out my real NES and see if it works.
Well fuck me, I wanted this for over a year, finally get it for Christmas and now theres a warning about it breaking NES consoles. I swear my luck is absolutely perfect.
Adrian Black Well like what are the chances that it will break my NES? Can I open the cart and fix it?
Hi, do u know of a snes game title where it's 2d, man with white tee, climb ladders, collect blue bombs, bomb skull door.. thanks in advance

Great video nice games
...Probably going to download a emulator and try some of these, my old crt gives me a headache and the clone console my parents bought doesn't have the best game selection
I have a Retcon Duo, does this cartridge play on that system?
I'm curious as to what game they have included that's labeled as Double Dragon 4, as Double Dragon 4 only became a game just a few months ago for the PS4, the NES only had Double Dragon 1-3.
how interesting, apparently that is actually a game called Target: Renegade, but it certainly looks and plays a lot like a Double Dragon game. Somewhere along the way someone unofficially rebranded it. Makes you wonder who and why exactly? I imagine to help boost the sales of bootlegs.
Target Renegade has better music than any of the Double Dragon games in my opinion.
its pretty cray cray that it came with a 60-72 pin adapter.
I think it's cheaper for them to produce a high number of famicom carts with can be sold in asia and just put it on an adapter for the western market.
Can you open a Contra-168 in 1 multicart.
I bought it and I am thinking " is there a 60 to 72 pin adapter inside" I dont have a game bit screwdriver so I cant open it when it comes from mail.
Final fantasy 3 has the airship glitch, when you enter a cave and exit it disappears from the map.
nice. I was the originator of the #RedCartClub back awhile ago.
The NES megaman games are balls hard by design.
The series got easier and easier as it went on.
Lord Calvanian Yeah, meger men II is muh fave.
Wow but 30 plus its 2 much for me. I see others on wish or geek with more games

i went back in time, anyway, i used to have one of the contra games, one of my brothers and i got to the end on that one. im sure i had other games in there also, i just dont remember the names.
I have this exact cartridge and an original NES, but when I load this cartridge the screen is just black. The power is not flashing, and ally. Other games work fine in the nes. What could possibly be the issue?
Omniferous Swan try rubbing alcohol and a cuetip
Excitebike for famicom could load/save from tape deck
I wonder what the game titled Earthbound was... Maybe Mother 1?
