He's saying that Havertz had been given unmerited opportunities to shine before his performances improved late in second half of the season. I think that's a fair assessment.
Arteta's insistence on starting Havertz despite his below average performance in first half of the season cost Arsenal dearly--lack of fluency in attack and lack of decisive goals.

We can all look back in retrospect and make assessments and guess alternative realities. The facts are Kai was signed by mikel, appreciated by mikel, rebuilt confidence because of mikel and that bared fruit to the point we lost the title by 2 points on the final day.
That’s not costing anyone dearly that’s what you call a process that come bitterly close to besting one the greatest mangers of all time, with one of the greatest premier league squads of all time.
@@LeechyPlatinum You're missing the point. Laurie's statement was just a statement of fact. He didn't deny that Havertz beat his prediction and the predictions of many others. For me, Mikel was wrong to change formations at the beginning of the season and playing havertz all the time. That really killed the fluency of the play. The season before, Arsenal failed for 3 reasons: 1. the average age of the group; 2. squad depth (injuries and substitutes); 3. lack of a difference-maker striker.
this season with the team maturing and the squad depth improve because of additions and better fitness, one would have expect a better outcome. So why has Arsenal came short once? That seems obvious.
I'd have added a lethal and proven goalscorer who you can rely on in tight games, not relied on a potential great.
so it's not about hindsight; it's about what Arsenal needed to go one step better. Having said that Havertz has done well in the last couple of months, and may improve a lot.

Stop playing the cups down as if it means nothing. In-order to be a winning team you got to get over the line. Ask City if they don't care about that competition. His injuries is so overstated. 3 seasons in La liga he played 37/38, 34/38, 32/38 - thats 11 missed league games in 3 seasons. last season he missed 16 fair enough. But this season he "only" missed 8 games in the league, which prob is the healthiest player in Newcastles squad lol

Very often I find myself forgetting that AFTv is a fan channel with real fans and I end up holding them to a higher standard of analysis. (This is not a dis).
The entire panel regurgitates a striker being a priority or how if one isn't, then it's because of Kai's performance. How can the priority be a striker in a situation where Thomas Partey and Jorginho have been and still are your only 6 options? The biggest chunk of our budget should go to an elite 6. I'd say, second in order of importance would be a backup 8, an alternative to Rice. I'd also say we're more in need of a wide forward than a CF.

Agreed. I think the whole take is flawed. Attackers used to be worth more than the other players because they were genuinely better than the other plays and worth it. There aren't many quality strikers in the market right now so it makes sense the other players are worth more.

idk why Arsenal would throw that kind of money at a striker, I think the top priority should be finding someone who can play Partey's role more consistently than Partey can. Jesus and Havertz aren't exactly Haaland or Henry, but they're excellent fits for Arteta's system. Isak would be good too, but not such an improvement that it justifies the cost it would need to take Newcastle's diamond from them. Especially when we've got actual liabilities with two aging 6s who can't be relied on for a full season. No idea who could realistically go there

He has to play him and improve his confidence. Yes, he played poor initially because he was being played as a midfielder, which he clearly isn't. Havertz started off poor but finished really strong. His 2024 performance is easily top-4 in the squad.

Martinelli also usually has the most space on the pitch considering play is usually heavily biased to the right and only switches to the left after the defending team saturates the right.

I always say to arsenal fans is that how good the job your manager is doing look by seeing what's your rival fans opinion on it. I bet you all the rival fans aka spurs man utd chelsea liverpool even city fans when pep leaves would take arteta at their club in a heart beat and that's why these rival fans are desperate for us to sack arteta so that we would go backwards as a club. The real level headed arsenal fans would clearly see the situation of our club it was when arteta took over and how he build up this squad from scratch to now what is a team competing with the best manager out there and a team with unlimited resources. Everyone talks about money, but the money we have spend till now was just to make sure we catch up city to that position. The reality is to overcome them we need to spend more and eventually we will be winning a lot of trophies in next or upcoming seasons especially when pep is gonna leave in 1-2 years time. Watch when pep will leave we would be winning even more and we could create an era of domination in league like what pep did with city. So arsenal fans stay level headed and believe the progress we are making. Reactionary fans like today would've got sir alex the sack for short term thinking and he would've never been able to create the legacy he created with man utd.

We lost the title because of arteta. At the start of the season, arteta wasn’t serious, he was playing Thomas Partey as a right back against Fulham in September at the emirates. That was 1 of the matches that cost us the league. Previous season, we started well but finished poor, this season we started terrible but finished strongly. You have to go the 38games playing well. I’m sure arteta has learnt well and I’m not expecting anything less than a premier league trophy next season…

Lets hope for the Best, we have to invest smart in 3-5 Players, so we have a decent bench also, which will be key factor for next season! Maybe not ridiculously paying more than max. 80mio for each, but we need really effective players, and then we should be good to go for all titles you can play for, next season. I have the feeling next season, we will be Champions24/25 🎉
