@BadTirapelli. I built this bike 25 years ago and rode it through 42 US states, 2 Canadian and all of Europe. It took, and takes, me were ever I wanted to go. Now, after 150.000+ miles, it never missed a single turn. This bike has more soul than most people and certainly can't be touched by any other bike, ever... It has nothing to do with winning, horsepower, nimble handling, fast cornering or speed ;-)
That's right bro. It's kind of a shock effect, they never think it's possible. Out of the hole it's not that hard to get in front. A streched bike with a bit of an engine & sticky tire does it. Don't race 'm 400m, don't race 'm on a circuit, never race 'm to their terms. You have to pick your battle. Be sure they're inexperienced enough to sign up for this kind of race... and they'll go down like a lead balloon. If people think this was the first Yamasuki rider that got surprised? Wrong ;-)
Still gotta keep the front end down. That’s why they extend the ‘Busa for drag racing. The chopper stays planted, and throws down heavy torque. I’ve been shocked by choppers before - some of them can really scoot.
I got to watch this video over and over again. Love it. Seen stuff like that happen to a Kawasaki rider, who thought he could beat a Harley in a dragrace. No chance. When it comes to torque, nothing on two wheels beats a Harley.
Everything beats a Harley he only won because they were racing 200 meters at best. The Honda doesn’t even get into its power and torque band until around 10,000 rpm. If this was an actual 1/8th or 1/4 mile run that bobber wouldn’t stand a chance. If you really believe Harleys are the fastest on 2 wheels then you’ve never ridden a moped much less a real cycle bud
I have forwarded this video to a bunch of my buddies and have watched it quite a few times myself, 😅 still enjoy it Hildo, from one old (68yrs.)Shovelhead dude to another ! Maranatha, Greetings from Tampa Florida 😎
Maybe because 'yama' sounds kinda like the dutch translation for 'unfortunately' (jammer). I'm not sure but he might even use that same word for every japanese brand of racebikes. So it could be meant as a sorry excuse for a bike. Because it's all the same to some who are not into race bikes.
Epic!!! Zag deze clip ooit ineens verschijnen en sinds die tijd ben ik al meerdere keren terug geweest om weer even naar deze hollandse held te kijken. Eens in de zoveel tijd moet ik 't gewoon weer ffkes zien. :)
I'm a sport bike, supermoto, dual sport type of guy but this old man is my hero lol love his swag humble, with his rusted down custom HD sleeper, old skool guy.
In 1988 I came in 2nd place in the customs in the chopper show of CCN (Chopper Club Nederland) in Beverwijk, Holland. If you actually ride a bike for 25 years, summer and winter, without pampering the shit out of it, this is what you get. Like or dislike, I take pride in it and don't give a flying fuck what anybody thinks. A store bought brandnew bike doesn't impress me
aw man. i was expecting to see an actual 1/4 mile drag race. of course the chopper wins off the line but with a little more distance that chopper has no chance
That Harley is made for low end torque. Plus Hildo is sitting right on the rear tire. It has better traction and weight distribution for launching. A CBR is balanced and made for racing a circuit. Hildo and his Harley will beat any sports bike in a 1/8th mile every time! He looks like an F-18 Hornet being catapulted of an aircraft carrier! Love it!
i call bullshit on that. i like both Harley and sports bikes. unlike most fan-boys i don't care a bike is a bike if it looks good and runs well ill ride it. however im not saying that the harley wouldn't beat the cbr because i don't know for sure all i know is that the guy on the cbr is pretty crap, ive seen vids and in real life people taking off on cbr 1000RR's way faster than that and i can take off quicker on my cbr 250R. not debating the results just saying that the cbr guy obviously has no experience in a drag race and the guy on the harley looks like he has had heaps.
I just wanted to up grade to the 103 ci. The torque difference means less shifting when riding the dragon or the cherohala an the mountains between Alabama an Virginia. The heated grips are a nice touch also on those cold days.
Yup, was going to say- a 0-60 race is the better drivers game, while the rod is a damn sweet bike- between 90-180 its not going to be pulling off the cbr thats for sure.
MotoGP bikes have 200-220 HP and can do about 100mph in 1st gear, That said, when the red lights go out they're not that impressive, but after the initial 8 seconds or so they're incredibly fast ... and untouchable!
Really dig the lines on the chopper. Just beautiful. Wicked leather pants, I would rock those. Take care & best wishes. Same goes for all who come across this comment. Cheers ✌
......wrong!!!!......the point is that the Harley is pure brute force.....extreme high torque that is why is able to defeat the honda in the short run of course in the final speed honda is so far much faster but not able to deliver all the power instantly..........
Nope one thing all Harleys have in common is they’re fast as hell off the line sport bike wins with the top speed but Harley’s have a lot of torque and a wider rear tire you can’t launch a sport bike the same as you can launch a Harley
***** no, he is a better rider and launch his bike. sorry but the harley might be putting down 90 hp, the honda is closer to 150. an 77 ftlb of torque. but thats not the biggest factor here. the honda weighs 200-300 lb's less. my 06 cbr with dot metzelers on it could pull high 9's in the quarter.
The R1 is a beast once you move over 6 grand, at 8 grand your a missile. The R1 is geared for 185 mph top end. The bikes really can't be compared. I do know this, and it's a fact.... R1 is a lot of bike for the money... the Harley is a rip off for the money.
Im a harley person but I seen these results from a mile a way. More torque and not having a problem keeping the front wheel down yeah its gonna win. If the Honda was stretched however, the results would have been different.
Its called a cam guys lol you can move the powerband up higher so that's probably what he did. And I'd say that's every bit of a quarter mile. Both of those bikes were gone pretty quick.
it's just that the Harleys torque curve.. comes in just off of Idle.. and the crotch rocket needs lots of RPM's.. before its produces any real torque.. that's why the Harley has an advantage over a very short race.. if the crotch rocket were to lower its ratio. it would be a much closer race..
Or if the rider knew how to use the Honda's power. I think the biggest advantage the chopper has here is it's wheelbase (and a better rider). With a 1000cc sportbike, you have to have a bit of skill to keep from flipping over backwards off the line, or laying it down. This is not so crucial on a long, heavy chopper. BTW I ride and enjoy both and I'm a Harley mechanic but I also love riding sportbikes.
Geweldig Hildo, heb me rotgelachen hoe je dat broekkie een lesje hebt geleerd! Groetjes uit de Algarve, mocht je ooit deze kant op ploffen trakteer ik je graag op een welverdiend biertje! :-)
Coming back from 5 years ago..this is always fun to see over and over again. Although I don't think my Road King can race a CBR...My beloved Vmax has and can-Although most of us know sportbikes are quick and fast-cruisers are not made to be "fast" and welp..neither are muscle bikes but when you see this ratbike holeshot off the line..its always entertaining. Thats why I named my Vmax..."holeshot". How are you and the Ratbike doing these days Hildo? Here is a lit treat for the "cruisers vs sportbikes". ua-cam.com/video/njCgN9u00Z4/v-deo.html
I bought a used Harley/custom Softail with a built Evo 96 "motor with 3 5/8 x 4 5/8 S&S stroker kit. I do not know all of the other parts but it has a Super G carb and Andrews 5 speed trans. My independent mechanic says I have the "good stuff" because it uses the stronger S&S engine cases and pistons with good shapes for lots of low to mid torque. I can see why Hildo launches so well.
1) This is a Honda CBR600 not CBR1000. 2) A drag race of 100 Meters only proves which rider lets the clutch out faster. 3) Harley's torque comes in just off of Idle and the CBR needs lots of RPM's before its produce any real torque. That's why the Harley has an advantage, over a very short race. 4) In a Race of quarter mile the Honda crush Harley in a few seconds. Funny video.
1) Not true. It actually is a CBR1000RR with a sticker / paint job. 2) Not quite. Getting the power to the ground is easier with a long wheel base and the chopper's weight distribution, mostly on the rear wheel, is an advantage as well. 3) Absolutely true.
Then they got above 50 MPH and the CBR walked away, then Hildo's harley hit a turn and wrecked. Not trying to be a jerk, but this is really a pointless race. Of course a big torquey V-twin will win in a very short race like this. A inline 4 hasn't even hit its power band yet. Plus the CBR rider launched like shit. Oh well, I guess congrats for beating a bike that has technological and performance superiority in almost every way, I gotta give credit for that.
+beefcake3131 Different horses for different courses I guess. If the fireblade challenged the chop to a twisty circuit race I guess things would be different! However I'm a chopper fan so I took perverse pleasure in seeing that crusty old rat pissing all over the crotch rocket, hehe!
+beefcake3131 you would be shocked on how well they can do with a good rider... My Dad smoked people all the time on hw70 in the canyon between Oroville CA and Reno...
S&S or not is has the harley design and this bike looks like my fathers bike except his was a panhead with a shovel lower end it was also pretty fast in the eighties going gear for gear with built S&S shovels ! nice Video i enjoyed it very much!!!
Have anyone realized how freaking skinny this guy's legs are? Shits hilarious. And please stop fucking arguing about which bike is better. Because this two are nice bikes and I'd rather have any of these than my daily bicycle and you fuckers make me feel bad and poor.
baxterbree It all comes down to the rider. V-Twins, in general, are much easier to launch, have much more torque down low and the weight to not jump up on the rear wheel. Still...that is pretty funny.
baxterbree I've owned cruisers and crotch rockets. I speak from experience. Sorry to bust your balls. I know Harley lovers just want to think their bikes are so fast and it really turns them on to find a random vid of a cruiser style bike ever coming close to a super sport bike. But, in reality, anyone with half a nut will come out on top with a 600cc super sport vs any Harley, inlcuding V-Rods.
JustAGuy I never said anything about Harley's being fast. I only said that he was mad because an old guy with a built Harley beat a hot shot on a CBR. I guess someone's just illiterate.
baxterbree No, you said I was making excuses and I was pissed off. I was clearly informing the uninformed that you can go, and I'll repeat myself, "balls to the wall off the line" with a Harley/cruisers in general. And that a 600cc super sport will take much more skill to launch in every way. Way more power, yet a way longer first gear.
go on hildo!! lovin the ratted harley, plenty of power, AND its camshafts were made in lye, england, from 1956 onwards till 2005 as i used to make them!!!! (and use them to prop up wonky pallets for 6 months till they go rusty then put them back when 1 short!!!!!!!!!)
Anyone would be struggling to beat that particular Harley as its been fitted with a super-charger with a blower, that's what's making that rattling noise. Basically it's a dragster bike so what we see is a race-tuned Harley & not just a ratbike chopper as it says in the description. Not a fair race at all
***** never understimate a "slow, heavy, expensive and flashy ass bike" lol i dont like harleys that much but that old fart did a number on that fireblade, nothing beats experience, even youth becomes nothing against experience.
The Harley kicked ass. realize however that it is all in the gearing. I could tell who would win before the race started by 2 clues in gearing. First was the sound and intensity of the Hondas burn out vs the Harleys burn out. You could see how much more low end the Harley had. Second was when the Honda made a few test runs down the street, you could hear his gearing was for top end not low end take offs. The Honda is geared for high speed on the freeways. The Harley won because he had the superior gearing for a drag race or 1/4 mile. Well done and kudos to the Harley owner who only had about 70 horsepower compared to 170.
Harley owners in their simple minds must be loving that someone basically built a drag bike that would need a full rebuild every week can finally beat a bog standard Fireblade. Let's see what would happen if you put that antique up against a modern tuned bike.
Are you talking about harley or fireblade , more like fireblade as it is stock versus a worked Harley obvious to see who was going to win. Just sayin it would be interesting to see a stock Harley vs a stock fireblade then the only variable part of the equation would be the riders skill level. Shit rider.
You did't have to stop there Classicrider103, your 2009 Ultra could have done a lot more. Collegue of mine has a 1986 FLT, overhauled it at 200.000km (around 125.000 miles), going strong again. He usually rides longer trips. A while back I had a big bore engine with Sputhe cylinders, still made 100.000km before a couple of new pistons had to go in. Harleys are based on old technique but can go the distance, if you treat them right.
Not only that, but the Harley rider makes sure it's not a fair fight by using the first meters where he has the upper hand to go straight into the path of the faster bike. It's just a typical asshole bully tactics when you know you have nothing to look forward to in a fair fight. Both guys are losers, each in his own way
Pretty sure that's not a stock harley. Anyone notice the S&S patch on the harley riders jacket? Might look like crap, but I'm pretty sure that engine has been well massaged.
It's like the old, "apples& oranges," thing. Just watch it for the entertainment value. Then shut the fuck up. Sounds like conversations between 13 year old boys. Signed riding since 1966
RESPECT for that Harley. I myself have a CBR1000RR, "older model" and a Yamaha 1100cc Harley style 4 pipes. Totally different bikes but both very fun to ride. I think the Harley destroyed the CBR's ego lol, but in the way I see it a bike does not make a rider, the rider makes the bike instead. Having a bike is almost like having a second wife, it's almost a relationship between man and machine. Need to be synchronized with each other. Might sound weird for some people, but many bikers feel the same way. Here's a tip for the CBR guy, It's all in the clutch men, from what I've seen in the video, you've been doing it wrong.
A fine work of fiction. Europeans are weird about Harleys and actually believe that they can be fast- none of mine ever were. Admittedly torquey off the line the Harley would be dragging it's ass after a hundred yards. I'm also surprised that the guy didn't bend the forks on the Harley when he was warming the rear tire.
let it go fellows. we all seen the race. hell hildo, even return back first! as well having to turn that long bike around. in what looked like an ally. PS you can't put enough rice in those Japanese bike's making it worth ownership. Harley's sent built in Japan either . but Harley does have parts from there.. final word!
Wait, was there an actual race in there? I saw like 7 minutes of warming up an old bike, followed by two guys going less than a block, and the indication of starting was unclear. I believe at a legitimate track the results would have been a WHOLE LOT different. The chopper would have had him for about 50 feet due to more low-end torque and the lower CG and longer wheelbase allowing a harder launch, but as soon as the Liter got over 5,000 rpm it would be all over.
A drag race of 100 feet only proves which rider lets the clutch out faster. That Honda would win by three seconds if they ran a quarter mile. At least, if not by more. Funny video though.
Hildo, that was awesome. I really enjoyed watching this. AS soon as you started your trusty old girl I KNEW what was going to happen. I saw the S&S patch on your jacket and I suspected you had some other S&S parts which can really breathe life into a Harley. I got to tour the S&S factory back in 2005. It was very educational.
Guys just not used to his CBR yet. Needs more practice. Without any kind of doubt even a 600cc sport bike would be faster. Bike just needs to be tamed and learned.
that is a cbr 600 hannspree, the clip info is wrong, see for yourself www.google.com.au/search?q=cbr+600+hannspree&es_sm=93&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=30RqU7O-OoTLkgW94ID4Dw&ved=0CDgQ7Ak&biw=1344&bih=748
Harley has a very long wheel base, he doesn't have to worry about flipping his bike. This mixed with the harleys torque is what makes them such good drag bikes. Why you think they extend the swing arms on sportbikes at the drag strip? But yes the fireblade would have flew by him at around 90-100mph...but that's not the point of this type of race. Nice harley
@BadTirapelli. I built this bike 25 years ago and rode it through 42 US states, 2 Canadian and all of Europe. It took, and takes, me were ever I wanted to go. You can tell that bike has been around and seen it all. Very cool build. Deff much more soul than any shiny new dealer bike
itshildo yeah i accept with you horsepower real man real spirit god bless you
itshildo, Come to Puerto Rico, I buy you a Case of Beer, Brother. 😊
Respect 👊
Your bike is awesome dude
Don't ever underestimate an old timer that's been riding for years👍
You see the power behind the Ratbike's burnout? That thing has some fucking fire!
No, a 96" 10:1 CR stroker motor. A common performance mod 25 years ago. Still works fine today :-)
and when the flag drops the bullshit stops
Love the rat Harley and he clearly knows what he's doing and wears the right gear. Even has full face beard ... excellent!
He doesn't have a front brake for that thing and doesn't wear a full face helmet. Mad respect for this man bravery and huge balls
full -face- race beard
That looks like an old pan head Harley, like the ones my father would build & ride, also had to start up the same way. Love em❣️

how to use a plastic clutch made in a fukshima yhamazuky compagny working with radio energy
No idea to drive the cbr

He also needs to learn how to accept defeats

Anyone notice the shifter travel on that Harvey before he pulls it out on the street!
At 2:20

2) Not quite. Getting the power to the ground is easier with a long wheel base and the chopper's weight distribution, mostly on the rear wheel, is an advantage as well.
3) Absolutely true.

You keep telling yourself that, overnovernover. 3 from 3 or did I miss something? Your 4 points of comment sound like the battle cry of a loser!

No excuses!!!!!
Harleys are torque monsters so a short drag race win is no surprise but a long interstate race would of had a different result.
Old Hippie from Holland, Djeez.
Torque vs BHP, this is why I ride and race a 1700 V-MAX race tuned to 190NM, it surprises people on the drag strips riding their superbikes.
Torque is the secret
i Think 2nd Gear is the secret.. Hildo doesn't have to shift gears.. :)
wrist too
Looks like good fun! I would love to have a go against Hildo with my bandit 1250, It has loads of torque down low just like a cruiser...
old man love harley. young man love honda.
LMFAO @ 2:23 the gear shifter looks like it's barely hangin on hahaha
+Martin Harris he was not even trying.
Martin Harris
I'm the opposite. I take pleasure in ripping by Harleys in the back roads like they are standing still while I'm on my tiny little 600.
beefcake3131 Each to their own mate, whatever gives you pleasure lol! I'm a 4 wheel man mostly (hot rods and VWs).
Wow a race from 0-30, how exciting. A literbike isn't even in the power band in first gear until about 70 mph.
For those that prefer English subs, I have the identical video on youtube with subs.
See the link in the description
All hail to Hildo! Thanks for the great video!
The Harley won.
THREE times.
Deal with it,you all complaining against that.
Calm down lol
*****
Boo hoo,I have none argument,so I´ll attack you. Crybaby.
***** yh and he only won because the chopper cant wheelie
+TheBorderlined Harleys are not Build for racing....why should that harley race around corners like sportbikes do???? Idiot....
It should win over a 25 metre start.. it has already reached top speed. Hahaha
I have loved Harleys forever they are a cruising bike, there is no way that Harley would have won against a skilled rider...
Cruisers can just go balls to the wall off the line because they can't and won't pop a wheelie. It's 10 times harder to launch a super sport bike.
Excuses, you're just pissed off because some old guy with a built Harley beat a hotshot on a CBR.
baxterbree It all comes down to the rider.
Old Harley still has tons of torque and can get off the line realy quick. Nicely done. The guy was a good rider too.
go on hildo!! lovin the ratted harley, plenty of power, AND its camshafts were made in lye, england, from 1956 onwards till 2005 as i used to make them!!!! (and use them to prop up wonky pallets for 6 months till they go rusty then put them back when 1 short!!!!!!!!!)
hahhaa ff schijt gereden worden.. Vind ik mooi. Had ik niet verwacht! respect voor de ouwe
All this proves is that some kids on a CBR that he aint skilled enough to get the most out of.but as a proud owner of a wide glide we'll take it
Anyone would be struggling to beat that particular Harley as its been fitted with a super-charger with a blower, that's what's making that rattling noise. Basically it's a dragster bike so what we see is a race-tuned Harley & not just a ratbike chopper as it says in the description. Not a fair race at all
He looks like trevor from gta 5.
I like this approach. I've seen more and more offensive comments around the good 'ole' tube as of late.
Btw, great video.
Torque beats horsepower.
***** ..hahaha, call it whatever u want...the fact is...cbr got smoked...peace ;-)
***** never understimate a "slow, heavy, expensive and flashy ass bike" lol i dont like harleys that much but that old fart did a number on that fireblade, nothing beats experience, even youth becomes nothing against experience.
I agree, but that's a sure fire way to ensure an argument with the multitude of fanbois who don't understand how engines make power....lmao
grow beard & u gain horsepower....kikikiki :-)
Yes but only the first meters it does. Of course the guy on the fireblade was a bit ignorant.
Ik heb geen remmen aan de voorkant maar veiligheid bovenaan uiteraard. Prachtig!
his gas tank aint got flames for nothin
Damn, looks like we need to evenly match riders before we start saying a certain bike is better than another.
Harley owners in their simple minds must be loving that someone basically built a drag bike that would need a full rebuild every week can finally beat a bog standard Fireblade.
Let's see what would happen if you put that antique up against a modern tuned bike.
the honda sounds better imo and will certainly be quicker around corners, straight lines are for fast cars, corners are for fast drivers
Best underdog video on the internet! Go Hildo!
Are you talking about harley or fireblade , more like fireblade as it is stock versus a worked Harley obvious to see who was going to win. Just sayin it would be interesting to see a stock Harley vs a stock fireblade then the only variable part of the equation would be the riders skill level. Shit rider.
2:52 first switch to neutral then release the clutch :D
You did't have to stop there Classicrider103, your 2009 Ultra could have done a lot more. Collegue of mine has a 1986 FLT, overhauled it at 200.000km (around 125.000 miles), going strong again. He usually rides longer trips. A while back I had a big bore engine with Sputhe cylinders, still made 100.000km before a couple of new pistons had to go in. Harleys are based on old technique but can go the distance, if you treat them right.
Harley: Torque from 2000rpm,
90% weight on rear tire
Honda: inexperienced rider,
torque from 6500rpm
Track: too short
Still quicker
Harley's sent built in Japan either . but Harley does have parts from there.. final word!
Agreed. But that's not what the Harley is built for.
Wrong
Hildo, that was awesome.
I really enjoyed watching this. AS soon as you started your trusty old girl I KNEW what was going to happen.
I saw the S&S patch on your jacket and I suspected you had some other S&S parts which can really breathe life into a Harley. I got to tour the S&S factory back in 2005. It was very educational.
Guys just not used to his CBR yet. Needs more practice. Without any kind of doubt even a 600cc sport bike would be faster. Bike just needs to be tamed and learned.
that is a cbr 600 hannspree, the clip info is wrong, see for yourself

Don't want to be offensive but how do you know he doesn't have enough experience?
basically some people dont understand what differences with peak power and rider skill can make
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...Hildo Rocks..!
Brillant, made my day! That "Yamazuki" should have destroyed the old Harley. What a trooper!
Holy shit! I've never seen a Harley run that long without breaking down.
Nice harley
