stop-motion movies are so fascinating to me, spending hours and hours on every single little movement is just so incredible! I love how coraline turned out.. and to be honest I didn't know that it was a stop-motion until now! It's so smooth and looks so animated

They could have easily done a lot of scenes using cgi, but they decided to build it by hand. Huge respect
That’s why the movie is so mesmerizing. Nothing in it looks fake or cgi. It looks tangible and real.

The motion is so fluid for FREAKING STOP MOTION!
Most homemade stop motion is 24 frames per second, but this movie is probably 60 frames per second. Which means that you’re seeing 60 images per second. It’s amazing how good it looks but freakishly time-consuming.

I always found it relaxing because of the soundtrack. Most of the film is very relaxed too. I'm always amazed when reators hear 10 seconds of the opening song and act like they're watching The Conjuring 🙃 Weird how easy it is to disturb the average person.

It's not underappreciated though. So many people love this and so many people will rewatch it until the day they die. It's an extremely popular movie that was a huge part of our childhood. If it would've been animated, I wouldn't even like the movie as much. Stop-motion makes it special, it gives it vibes I didn't know existed untill i watched the movie. I like to watch it on rainy days because it makes the vibe even better. It's different and unique and people took alot of time to make this, the patience these people have is incredible. I love this movie, the stop-motion features, the rainy season in the movie,the plot,the nostalgia,the styles,the features, the voice actors and basically everything is amazing, unique, special and just different. It's really different. It has amazing vibes idk how to really describe.

This is all insane, but the sweater lady takes the cake. I'm a knitter, and that's insane. I find size four yarn too thin and fiddly to work with, and here she is knitting with thread and hair-thin needles and having her stitches be perfect. Holy shit, massive props. I love this movie so much

For the “other mother” transformation scene, did they have to make a different doll for each frame? If so, just....wow.
I loved this movie when it first came out, it's always been a favourite but after watching this I have a new found appreciation for this movie
I don't think so -- I'm pretty sure they used a puppet for that other mother. The rest of the characters' bodies were probably puppets too (multiple versions in case they broke), with changing hands and faces and hairstyles.
Having a different puppet for each pose for every character would require hundreds of thousands of puppets which would be absolutely impossible even for Laika

@@aadyaadyaadyaa No, they mean for the transformation scene for the other mother. On that scene the other mother slowly turned from Coraline's mom to her scarier, original and taller form. For that particular scene they most likely had to use a different puppet for each frame

It's really not a complaint but an accomplishment..
People are literally terrified of a kid's horror movie.. imagine how proud they must be... the author and the animators..
Tbh it's more better and more terrifying than most 18+ horror movies.. and that says a lot about how good the movie is..
honestly, i watched this movie when i was younger and it always gave me a creepy vibe. i never knew it was horror cause i always thought horror movies were showing people dying and shit like that. and i honestly would've never guessed this movie was stop-motion. one of the best movies for sure.

This is horror without ghosts or dying people. Sometimes I don't even know why it creeps me so much! As far as I remember there is not even one drop of blood in the movie. It's just perfectly made!

I thought this was animated on like an computer or something not like actual puppets sculpted and remade dozens of times just to make it perfect or just right. I really respect this and I loved the movie! It was creepy, a good type of creepy.
From what I know, only the fog in the snail picture scene was animated by computers, because they just couldn't get it just right by hand.
Besides the fog, it's all handmade :D
