Great video. This took me back to some great memories. Best gaming memories I can recall. You’re right about the player content in the rvr system. It was pvp with a cause - a reason to fight. I remember during the first year level 20s coming out to defend their realm during relic raids and there was realm and server pride. I played an infiltrator on Igraine (later Devon) named Face. @@SquashDog01 hey bud nice to hear from someone from the past! I do of course remember you. And yeah PA.con was a great site and board for us to shoot the shot and talk about our geeky hobby :) I keep looking for a game to capture my interest the way DAoC did. And I miss all of the friends I met along the way. Some of those friendships were every bit as real as the ones I’ve made in person. Best game ever. 20 years on and off. Its my go-to game. I really wish they remastered it in terms of graphics. It would be epic! Plus i believe it would thrive. There is a huge gap in mmos for the past years. Nice video man!
Still play here and there, was sub'd until just recently. Definitely one of the top 3 MMOs of all time. Just needs some population and it could return to greatness again!
Much appreciated video to promote our old game we played since beta , maybe one day before it all really comes unravel I would love to see out player base numbers go way back up , hats off for this good video.
I'm kinda sad you didn't list EQ as one of the big fore-daddies. I never got to play DAOC back in the day my computer wouldn't run it, but many of my friends did and loved it while some would bounce between the two, a lot never came back. I recently was reminded of this game and decided to try it out. While EQ had Hard Mode grinding perfected, i have been shown it wasn't as deep of a pool as I thought. I got overwhelmed from the options of races/classes almost immediately and found you thanks for what you're doing.
Most fun I ever had in a MMORPG. I started out on the Iseult & Kay RvR realms at launch (2000?) & later mostly-transitioned to the PvE co-op Gaheris server until around 2005-2006.
Started playing on a shard recently with a group of people I've been gaming with for decades. The group plays various games both new and old and every few years circles back to DAOC. By the end of the first couple weeks the consensus was that it is still the greatest game ever made. The uniqueness of the realms/classes and RVR mechanics are just something special.
I returned to this game a year ago. I thought for sure it wouldn't be long but there is SOMETHING i can't explain .....I'm still at it and continue to have fun
I remember on the old Herald, there used to be a staff member (before EA) named Sandra that posted all the time... the interaction between the players and Mythic was what made this game great. I definitely miss running 3 PCs during Relic raids to keep all the TS channels sorted out. Greatest PvP system in any MMO, and one of the greatest games ever.
I tried to find it again. The feeling Dark Age of Camelot gave me back in 2002/3. I can't even describe that feeling. It's just something special. I tried to find it in WoW, it was close, but I could'nt find it. I tried it in Warhammer Online - Age of Reckoning, it was even closer, but still - I couldn't find it. I recently played a bit of New World, a good game, but that feeling - It just couldn't be found again. Thank you for this video, because it brought back a glimpse of it. It gave me new hope on finding that feeling again. I won't ever give up on chasing it, because to me, DAoC wasn't just a game!

Thanks for watching Woke, and grats on RR12! I couldn’t have given the video the depth and impact it needed without footage from people like you and Ramik and the others! Absolutely had to make sure people knew where the excellent footage came from.
this bring me a lot of nice memories, calling for homeland defence and 100-300 people showing up to help, have seen a lot of epic battles in the open ! Long live to Midgard :)
Long time ago i played this awesome and unique game. I played it in Europe Germany Server named Avalon on the Hibernian side. Sometimes the content of my dreams is separated out of situations in this game. Never saw a game like this before and after. Best 4 years of my gaming life. Thanks for your video. I hope DAoC unchained will strike back this unique gaming experience we all enjoyed a lot.
I played this game years ago when it cames out and THIS Game is one of the best MMORPGs ever. Even its so old it gives u everything u need the PvP between the 3 Realms by raid Castles or Towers in the PvP Area which gives Buffs to the whole Realm(Albion, Hib or Midgard) by holding these Castles bring players of the realms together to fight against the other realm(s). This game is so awesome, every other MMORPG after this game just has some of the pieces DAoC had from the beginning
Went back and tried the 1st Dungeon on Hib side, had the most enjoyable experience in a loooong time 💙 definitely looking forward to their new Classic server this year 👌
You can give it a go right now on the Atlas freeshard server. It's currently tailored as a classic experience with a few needed additions like SI. It's really great to get into until the actual Classic server releases.
Played since launch day, had to go out and buy RAM for this BEAST! I loved Mordred PvP, such a unique experience I may never have again... so crazy! I have vids still, PC is in storage so one day I will upload them next year.
this was my cradle mmorpg, first mmorpg I played, i led a guild there as an 18 yo kid... i barely knew anything about anything, i jsut played and i gathered friends and then morepeople and suddenly we ranged between 60 and 80 Mercenaries fighting on behalf of Camelot, against the celtic tribes, and the norse vikingr. I played a 50 air/20 earth theurgist
Daoc is the greatest MMORPG ever made. Unrivaled in the amount of entertainment and excitement it provides. The epitome of a PvP, Realm vs realm MMO. I played it first in 2001 on official live server, and nowadays I am playing it on the Eden freeshard Nothing comes close
Wow! I just stumbled on this out of the UA-cam blue! I am actually Astaria DodFurstinna one of the two Hunter community leads that volunteered for Mythic from the release of the game. I had to walk away from gaming shortly after the first DAOC convention in Las Vegas due to starting to attend college there (late bloomer after Army). I agree with this review wholeheartedly, I never found another game that played as well. I had thought the servers had been shut down when Mythic team broke up some years later. You tend to elude that there is gameplay now. Is it fanbase server and someone bought the game rights? If its the original servers, I wonder if anyone is running around with 100% perfect master craft bow with my name on it still!
Ok well I just answered my own question about you eluding to its live. Did a google search and found it. Swear I have done that search before and never stumbled on it. Well, either way, since they talk about account recovery, I might just give it a shot for fun of it!
Mythic was bought out by EA. EA still owns the IP but after dissolving Mythic transferred day to day operations and development to a small company called Broadword Entertainment, who maintain and develop the game today. There is still a population on the official servers.
I miss playing also but i cannot go back to it. just not much of a gamer anymore and my computer wouldnt run it. played it for about 8-9 years. miss my theurg
I was there in the beginning. Hibernia was basically a massive golf course with like 5 mob types. It got better and was a glorious time. Bigwood Hickory nuts the nature druid cruising emain killing infs with my cheap stun pet and my dots
Subscribed. Played on Kay server back in the day as a necro username: ballimore I had a massive hit of nostalgia a few days ago because of this game. My dad would drop me off at a lan center down the road from our house on a Friday night and pick me up at 6am Saturday morning. He gave me $20 for food and paid for my all night ticket there. I’d walk across the street around midnight to get Taco Bell and buy a BAWLS around 2-3am to keep me going. At 34 years old, married, two kids, professional career and haven’t played DAOC in nearly 12 years… I think I want to build the computer i saved my money for as a kid and dive back into some of the best memories I had as a kid.
I've watched a video recently showing an expected release of a classic style DAOC server, i'll wait for that to release if it's true. on the EU servers "excal and prydwen" I played from 2002 until goa stopped running them, then again for a few years intermittently on the Ywain servers in USA from 2012 until a few years ago. i think i prefer the pre toa experience. although i could be looking through rose coloured spectacles.
I played Mid/Kay from shortly after original release. I agree with you, the game was best before TOA. I did like the Catacombs expansion as well. I just recently heard of this "Mythical" release of a classic server on Steam. After 20 years, I think I'm ready to go back to Midgard.
From FEB of 2002 until 2012 I played this game. I had a Realm Rank 11 ranger. I had a Realm rank 10 Shield hero and played all the other hibernian classes. I particularly loved the mushroom casting class. Before the big mushroom nerf, we used to spam limitless shrooms and wipe out enemy armies. lol. The zerg wars were absolutely amazing. Later on solo groups took over. But anyways, there is no other game or mmorpg I have played that brought the community together together like DAoC. YOu havent done anything until you joined an experience group for 4 to 8 hours. Although they did make it more solo friendly since the beginning. Oh well. I could go on forever. I hate albs and mids. Long live DAoC.
its insane to me that no other came has matched the feeling of daoc rvr in their pvp. nobody even attempted it lol. its like nobody knows about this game and it makes no sense to me.
My first MMORPG was DAoC, then EverQuest, kinda stuck with EverQuest cause they had a free option, while DAoC charged, I did play for what I have no idea 5 years straight, my best character (to me) was my level 50 cleric on Lancelot server (well originally not sure anymore I do remember a server merger that my character was involved in, couldn't tell you if she moved again I can still find her when I search for her on the website though)
Love the game, played for years then took a long break. Been back nearly 2 years now. Toughest part is finding a group in NF. You could spam lfg all day and never get an invite. Sadly It's who you know now in order to get any rps
I never personally had any interaction with Everquest. So for me I don’t connect the two, personally. Others certainly do, but as I don’t it didn’t get mentioned.
i am trying daoc endless conquest but i keep dying to mobs and i have spent tons of money on the healer because of constitution loss and res sick. playing a sorcerer on alb.
Hopefully as I put together more content I can help. For sorcerers having a pet will help a ton. Casters, while solo, are also all about kiting. Quickcast (which you can find in your specializations menu, under abilities) will allow you to uninterruptably cast a single spell. Using it on a root, stun or mez will let you sprint away and get some kills. Are you focused on doing the town quests in the various towns throughout the Realm by chance?
@@pentiummmx2294 resists absolutely happen and can be frustrating. Higher level spells help with that, as does having better stats by equipping at level armor and weapons. As a solo caster it is definitely about choosing your targets and pulling from as far away as possible.
@@pentiummmx2294 For Spells, make sure you have a proper staff on your Sorc. You can also use a spec that allows you to charm a pet to serve as a tank/dps for you as well. But make sure your staff is proper, start your attack at max range, root/CC before they get too close, kite a little (careful not to run into more mobs) and kill.
Never personally played it, so it holds no nostalgia for me. Didn't intend to slight it by leaving it out, just didn't influence my personal MMO journey.
Ghe developers shot themselves in the foot by finally needing everything in sight and making dominant classes as effective as kittens trying to bite your shoe laces. I absolutely loved this game but when the nerd bat hit berserkers it no longer was my cup of tea and I moved on to WOW. That said, I memorized the maps of this game and knew how to infiltrate enemy territory with an army at my back. I also knew how to defend well and where the enemy would most likely attack from. I remember spending weekends defending the realm so we could keep our relics. I was Elrok of The Ring of the East and we were the second best guild on our server, second only to Bedlam, the best group from all servers.
You're welcome to your opinion, and I'm glad you enjoy it over there, but I disagree . I personally support Live servers. Thank you for watching the video, however.
@@Shrimpiclese I still love the content. Its applicable regardless of the server. I played on live from 2001-2010. I would have came back to live but my account used a dead email service and I could never get any assistance from Broadsword. The game needs people to play with and the updates and population on Phoenix suit me. Regardless of the server, keep up the good content. Its lovely.
Since you are nostalgic Check my channel for old school OF quality content. We have been stuck in the 1.60 patch for 2 years here in the Italian server. (Most moved elsewhere USA/EU) but still played the original chars time to time. They eventually did patch to nf in mid late 2005 as the server was brought under Goa (EU servers)
You say it caters to solo players and is well accessible by newbies, yet the people here on UA-cam who tried the game out blindly were met with empty servers and unable to solo any fights after like 2 hours in. Since there was no one else to group up with, they quit
Thanks for watching. A few things I will point out is that this video is just shy of being two years old. That length of time will always change the landscape of any MMO. So things like top guilds, population, current events, and even balancing can be wildly different. In the almost two years since this video was published I have personally stepped away from DAoC after my personal group of friends and family also decided to move on to other games. As such, I admit that cannot speak to its current population/game state/etc. At this point the video stands as a testament/monument to one of the (IMO) greatest MMOs that was ever crafted. The PvE leveling (and I emphasize leveling here) experience remains entirely soloable. The raids are a different story, but as of the making of this video (nearly two years ago) there were large every other week or so runs put together to get players through that content. Whether that continues to this day, I cannot speak to. The RvR experience was certainly a different animal all together. Soloing was a viable option, but it has a skill curve, as with all pvp games. Small grouping was a viable option, but had a skill curve. Just like all pvp games. As for other youtubers... I have watched numerous MMO youtubers attempt to get involved in this game (often on their "I play this for 8 hours and call it a fair shot), and will always strongly question the methodology of trying to treat a 20+ year old game like jumping into a modern powerhouse. Seems like bad science to me, as a low population game lacks the funding/manpower to revamp a new player experience to make it the accessible "hand holding gateway" that these youtubers frequently want it to be. The game is simple enough on the surface that with some reading and some effort it can be played successfully to level cap.
I could NOT agree more. Daoc has no equal as far as it's chemistry and make up for what it actually is. I'll say this........if Daoc had WoW's graphic's , WoW would Not exist today. The absolute freedom of Daoc is unparalleled. No other game out there allowed you to view your character screen as a virtual tool box........Need to farm gold or items? No problem Ill log on my farmer toon who's spec'd for it and has never seen rvr. Need to rvr? No problem, I'll log on my RVR toon. The whole need to control Darkness falls for crafting was brilliant and your pvper's and your carebears all lived in a symbiotic world that needed each other. Carebears loved to craft item that Pvper's need to fight in the frontier and battle groups. Etc etc.
Ramik oak playing wants balance an more folks playing however he still plays his hibs mostly instead playing other realms , however always trying to put out videos wanting folks to play but falls back to hibs which most folks play. Played this game since is came out an wished more would play however we lost most after toa now it’s mostly folks wanting to solo or run 8mans which are tight nit friends leaving out loners.
Budodude Midgard runemaster Bors server here yes I was the top of the realm points ladder, best tailor, and server first to solo Spindelhella farm... Goose (Hibernia caster), Solomon (hib bard), and all you Albion scrubs etc I owned you, zero chance I won every 1v1 and defended every relic
TOA sucked, New Frontiers sucked. Some of the class balance and certain new things introduced into the game were ridiculous...however, with all that said it is still my original MMO and all time fav as far as online games go :) Just a shame that the elitist attitude that pervades most of what little DAOC there is left leaves it such a hostile and unforgiving / steep learning curve environment for any potential new players / dare I say it casual scrubs :D
Thank you for watching. :) I can understand this dislike of ToA, it added a number of things to the game that certainly aren’t my favorite. Personally I like NF though :) Their are certainly elitists in DAOC (as in every game) but as someone subbed and playing nightly I don’t agree that it “pervades most” of DAOC. I only returned recently after a near decade long break and was welcomed with open arms and found lots of new friends. The same has been said for the people I’ve been getting to try the game out who have chosen to play other realms. I won’t deny that The game has a steep learning curve for sure (hence this channel and my content) but that’s that’s largely only in comparison to the incredibly easy fare we have in MMOs these days. It’s certainly not an inaccessible game though, and it’s one that the time and effort to learn it will be rewarding.
@@Shrimpiclese Thx for the reasonable and thought out response :) makes a change from the instant tirade of 'you suck' etc that normally gets launched back as soon as you disagree with someone online:) I currently play the Phoenix freeshard, and from my experience there thus far, there is VERY little tolerance for scrubs/noobs/new players/casuals call it what you will. Plus the RvR aspect is incredibly difficult to explain to a new player, plus it is very high skill ceiling as really if you wish to compete you need to be able to identify classes / realm ranks / understand positioning (over extending etc) and how all the CC etc works, plus how all the classes mesh into one and other. I have not played live for a long time but i did play during DAOC beta (yes I am that old:) right up to just after TOA (which is the reason myself and most of my guildies / DAOC buddies quit). After that I did the 'Classic' live servers (1.87 patch I think?) with a RL friend, then Genesis / Uthgard and finally Phoenix. None of this makes it a bad game, perhaps just quite a niche one. But I do not envy anyone trying to start from absolute scratch these days. And some of my old compatriots have said that live DAOC now is so far removed from the original as to be almost unrecognizable. But when all is said and done it still deserves the accolades and is absolutely one of the best MMO's ever made - some of my best online fun / memories came from Dark Age of Camelot:)
Greatest game ever made still to this day.
100%
I think it still has the no 1 position for RvR mmorpg!
100%
Everquest!
Best. Game. EVER.
Man i wish there was a worthy successor. I always get goosebumps when I hear the music from DAoC :-)

Thank you! I certainly agree with the best pvp experience assessment.
Amen, nothing comes even close to what Daoc provides

Ok well I just answered my own question about you eluding to its live. Did a google search and found it. Swear I have done that search before and never stumbled on it. Well, either way, since they talk about account recovery, I might just give it a shot for fun of it!
Mythic was bought out by EA. EA still owns the IP but after dissolving Mythic transferred day to day operations and development to a small company called Broadword Entertainment, who maintain and develop the game today. There is still a population on the official servers.
that music gets me every time! is live worth coming back to?
DAOC will forever be my favorite game. Not just mmo.
Best game ever made! Followed closely by Asherons Call 1.
I miss playing also but i cannot go back to it. just not much of a gamer anymore and my computer wouldnt run it. played it for about 8-9 years. miss my theurg
So hyped for DAOC Classic!
I was late to work several times because I had to defend against a relic raid. Got to have priorities.
I miss old Time I had rr12 fire wiz name was Thirdgree
I was there in the beginning. Hibernia was basically a massive golf course with like 5 mob types. It got better and was a glorious time.
Bigwood Hickory nuts the nature druid cruising emain killing infs with my cheap stun pet and my dots
Subscribed. Played on Kay server back in the day as a necro username: ballimore
I had a massive hit of nostalgia a few days ago because of this game.
Still the only game that for the most part got mmorpg pvp right.
I miss the people from the old guild I was in MoG! RAWT!
The only MMORPG that ever got huge scale PVP/war right.
DAoC eden, freeshard got me back in the game. Highly recommend, if you wanna get back into DAoC
Been played DAoC for 20 years, as a matter of fact i just logged off a few minutes ago :( BEST game of ALL TIME!
I was thinking about getting back into it, what realm you on?
@@chrisr7235 mid mostly
Long live DAoC.
daoc isn't a game, it's a way of life.
The word on official forum for DAoC is a realm invasion server. Talk about supercharging the game.
its insane to me that no other came has matched the feeling of daoc rvr in their pvp. nobody even attempted it lol. its like nobody knows about this game and it makes no sense to me.
Love daoc , high skilled 8 vs 8 was best pvp experience ever.
What has the paladin cry .....,
" I WILL SURVIVE ! " that it is . what Dark Age of Camelot do
Don't know why they don't just update the graphic and release it again, I would definitely play again... This would be cash cow.
Leveling in DAOC was a more refined version of the leveling experience found in the first Everquest. You can't mention DAOC without mentioning EQ.
Are you focused on doing the town quests in the various towns throughout the Realm by chance?
i am usually killing yellow con mobs and the spells seem to resist.
DAoC, SWG and CoH are the 3 GREATEST mmos of the past
I may check it out and hit Nisses Lair
My guy doesn’t mention Everquest as influential mmo’s lmao.
Never personally played it, so it holds no nostalgia for me. Didn't intend to slight it by leaving it out, just didn't influence my personal MMO journey.
they just need to remake OG DAoC to a T, and polish it up for today's standards.
Miss you guys, love -Jeor Nimue
This Berserker doesn't feel nerfed... 😉

great vid :)
Just wish there had been more PvE when I was playing
I currently have an active sub and play….lvl 50 champ armsman and 50 champ Archer on Albion side….you all come on back now!!!
The Phoenix DAOC freeshard is the place to be.
Its lovely.
damn hibs...
I am not a pvp guy but I would be interested in its pve. But I heard its bad so I havent played it yet.
I still havent found a better or as good at then DAOC best mmorpg ever
man i never get bored of that game since the start, but only in classic, from atlantis become shit :\
I've played every MMo in the last 20 years ... if you haven't tried RvR on daoc you don't know what PvP is in an MMo
daoc best mmo still
You say it caters to solo players and is well accessible by newbies, yet the people here on UA-cam who tried the game out blindly were met with empty servers and unable to solo any fights after like 2 hours in.
Personally I like NF though :)
Their are certainly elitists in DAOC (as in every game) but as someone subbed and playing nightly I don’t agree that it “pervades most” of DAOC.
