Cool fact: this was one of the LRT networks in America to undergo a hefty modernisation between the late '90s and early 2000s, long before the streetcar modernisation from your native Toronto. In the old days, the Newark City Subway (now the Newark Light Rail) used PCC trolleys (American nickname for streetcars) all the way to when these Kinki-Sharyos came about. Also the underground stations from Warren St. to Newark Penn Station have designs heavily inspired by the NYC subway but also the subway-surface trolleys in Philly. Other light rails here in the states that also underwent such modernisations are Pittsburgh, Boston, and San Francisco; Philadelphia and Cleveland will be up next in a few years with low-floor trains.
