In the last few weeks since I've been watching, you've taken me back to how my Mum and Dad used to garden. They were proud new homeowners without much money, but they were very resourceful!
They would go to the woods and load up the trunk of the car with loam for the new gardens. They also were great at snipping roses to start new ones.
Dad built all of the beautiful porticos, arbours, fences and gates too.
In the end, they had gardens that were so beautiful, they won the provincial awards for the most beautiful gardens 3 times, which was the maximum that you could win.
You remind me very much of them in your love for what you do. I have gained a new enthusiasm for projects both inside my house.

The crocuses are lovely! I love seeing the frost signs of Spring flowers popping up. I remember one March , I was in Cape Cod, MA and saw the tips of daffodils coming up on Resurrection Day! It was like the flowers were resurrecting as Jesus did! They rise again too. Amen❤

You have a distinct look alike to my late husband, Richard, so I immediately clicked on your channel. Then your mannerisms reminded me so much of Mr Rodgers. As I've been watching older episodes I realized others felt exactly as I did. Living alone without my love, I realized how unmotivated & depressing I've become. I can't just make a meal from scratch for myself, alone. ( lost weight, just grab a protein drink or protein bar) You have brighten my days. I actually felt like cleaning! Thank you so much! My twin sister, in Tucson Arizona, and I watch your videos religiously and we were just talking about how fun your videos are! We are totally addicted to your entire lifestyle and the fact that you choose all of us to be your friends. I think you're so funny with saying, "I am not Bob, the builder". How often we have all felt that way...except that you are Bob,the builder, because it worked out beautifully! We just love the little rewards and the cakes and all the wonderful things that you make for us when you work so hard. Thank you for being wonderful!!! The queens and crabapple branches are miraculously beautiful!!! Kevin, since you are new with using plant grow lights check out the timing and spacing between various types of plants and the lights. The amount of light requirements and need to move your lights up or down might require chains to do so in your setup. A timer to turn the lights on/off makes it a foolproof situation to avoid issues that could kill your plants. I hope you see this, I would love to know you are successful in this new endeavor 😊!
Also chiming in with advice, having learned a lot over the past few years. Definitely put your lights on timers. 16 hours on, 8 hours off. There is a good one by Fosman on Amazon that is surge protected. Four of the plugs are timers, four are regular. You will need the regular plugs for fans (I suggest two for your setup). Air circulation is a must to prevent fungus gnats and to develop strong plants. You might also want a couple of heat mats once you get going. I have used chains to raise and lower lights as suggested above but now find it easier to raise the seedling trays using all those boxes I get from Amazon or Starbucks coffee boxes from Costco.
I can tell you that seed starting is truly addictive (as evidenced by the four flats of pansies I grew and have just potted out in my urns - Toronto🇨🇦). You will likely expand your seed starting over the next few years as you learn what works for you and will get the itch to start right after Christmas!!

Hi Kevin, well, you're nice and early with getting organised for plant growing. Your new racking unit is indeed a handsome addition, as are the lights and positioning your new unit in front of the long window as you have will ensure excellent results going forward into summer.

Beautiful looking cake. I've used rose petals in tea but never on top of a cake. As you said, you almost had to force yourself to cut into it the result was so beautiful.
Your quince branches look simply beautiful on the table. I planted up a tub of daffodils and deep purple hyacinths a couple of weeks ago for the foyer of the block I live in. Unfortunately, just as they began blooming everything started to bend and lean over so I replaced the tub with some early flowering pelargoniums, cut the bent blooms and put them into vases for my sitting room and kitchen. The hyacinths have been oozing beautiful perfume now for days. Delicious and far too nice to discard to the gardening room!

Funny sychronicity... I've just rearranged my storeroom that adjoins my very small kitchen. Now I have all my electric kitchen appliances in easy reach and so much more space on the kitchen shelves. I had to really dive head first into and under the kitchen storage to get anything out! Now, Kevin, I'll be doing a lot more baking, steaming and blending + + +

My heart is so happy watching today’s video! I have the exact same shelving unit and I have it in my small laundry area off my kitchen. I use the shelving as a kind of pantry area plus I put my microwave on one of the shelves. A couple of weeks ago I planted seeds in two of my AeroGarden units (hydroponic gardening). It gives me such joy seeing the green sprouts coming up. I’ve planted two pods each of: gourmet lettuce, lemon basil, pansies, and nasturtiums. I recently bought (off Amazon) a bag of culinary lavender and from Savory Spice a bag of culinary rose petals! Your cake sounds wonderful and I can’t wait to make it! I’m debating on using either my homemade strawberry Prosecco jam or my rose petal jelly. I made both last spring. The little canning device looks perfect to seal my lavender and roses and I plan to use the link you provide to treat myself to one. Thank you again for today’s video. It is a favorite of mine because we shared such similar interests! Though I’m in northern Colorado and you’re in New York state, today’s video made me feel like we’re neighbors! I have 6 of those shelves. Love them. My BIL was a chef and I got them when he moved. One shelf is in my garage for Instant Pot, Ice Maker, overflow LocknLock containers, bread maker, etc. The other shelves are in my machine knitting/quilting room. Mine are on wheels that lock.
