It just struck me, after decades, that the riff at 2:37 is played on one guitar. The riff that mystifies my ears unlike any other, and makes it hard to breathe, and it's one guitar. I think Judy's bass has something to do with it, but still, just nuts
@@ArsenicDrone I couldn't figure out what he was doing for the longest time but I finally got it and it feels so great to play it finally!! The way he plays that baseline thing at the same time is pretty dope :)
Years later and I still come back to this as the best live performance I've ever seen from Modest Mouse. That's not to say other shows aren't also amazing, but the amount of sheer energy Isaac puts into this performance just blows me away every single time.
@@IdaBasar1589 Sorry, I'm not familiar with the venue, I just mean this performance is the best I've seen online. For some reason I feel like I remember the name Cairo, so that might be a place to look for? Sorry I don't have more info though.
@@switz6141 Cairo was a room about as big as my kitchen and they sold T-shirts and fashionable items it was on Capitol Hill. Modest Mouse never played there. Cairo was much later.
@tiffanyr591 My name is Tiffany too! 😅 I lived all over the place. Lynnwood, Kenmore, Bothell, Everett, way up in Skagit. I've been to a ton of shows at the venues you mentioned. I remember when El Corazon was still The Graceland and Seattle Center had a skate park lol. I'm old. went to Highscool in Lynnwood.
There were two RKNDY shows I attended, both playing with BTS, one show BTS switched and let MM headline. I forget which show, but Brock had the club turn off the spot lights and performed in near dark, awesome show! Plus Crocodile shows. Anyone that has those, post!
You would be mistaken....red stars theory opened and possibly a band before that but Modest Mouse headlined this show and were the last band to play...I attended the built to spill show (I think you are talking about) but left early as it was so crowded it was boarderline suffocating in that small club

That's been a common reference. He admits to them being a heavy influence early, as well. I hear some Lync in their early work too, especially before long drive.
@@dougthealligator Reality is that I played the Pixies TO DEATH and much less so MM years later. So I may still just be fatigued with Pixies. Never mind comparing, they are both so great.
Well, it was one of the most amazing musical viewing times of my life Modest Mouse was one of the greatest bands I’ve ever seen in this form I probably saw them 25 times between 1997 and 2000. Isaac Brock was a fucking freak of nature, and the rhythm section was so powerful, Jeremiah Green was a fucking God the sparks flying off isaacs bendy strings were so influential on me. Everybody loved this band for a good reason. There was no doubt there was something very special and then it wouldn’t be long before the whole world knew. God bless Jeremiah. May he rest in peace.
Isaac Brock is an underrated guitarist.
its his sheer talent as a song writer that over powers it

The raw energy, the jagged/off kilter harmonics. It’s hard to believe one guy is making all those beautifully chaotic sounds on one guitar.

@@finestcustard5647 Totally agreed. That's cool that you figured it out
i would kill to be at one of those early MM shows..
The mosh pits would have been fuckin mad, especially on this track.
75% of the time they were too fucked up to play haha. They were still great tho
Hit or miss, but Jeremiah and Eric always on point
Completely different vibe now, but im old and don't mind sitting now. 😅
They were EPIC live back then.

Ahhhh I bartended this show❤
Growing up in Seattle before these guys blew up and got super popular, I remember these days fondly 💜
Where did you grow up? I bartended at The Crocodile, Off-Ramp and Showbox. Probably ran into each other. OK Hotel was my favorite hang out

The pure ferocity of what Issac's playing is almost too much to be contained by his guitar alone.
The drums in this song are absolutely amazing, easily my fave drums in any song ever.
RIP
@@nolanpeters5462 Crazy to see someone else here 23 minutes before me. Such a great performance. And yes, RIP.

Jeremiah the king of the high hat
They were sooooo young here but Jeremiah was already an amazing drummer
Best 3 man band i ever did see
Damn these guys used to be savage
Then they moved to Portland and became memes.
Jeremiah hitting the absolute fuck out of the bass kick and Isaac screaming at 3:07 is transcendental
they all cheer at the end but i just feel like crying. so much pain in a young man it's sad to see
These dudes are absolutely BRILLIANT! I don't know what version of this song I love better--the studio version, or their live performance of it!?!?
SIMPLY AMAZING!!! everything on this band is awesome ...
This is so great to see! Amazing!
R.I.P Jeremiah
Fucking fantastic! Surprisingly good audio.
Wow, what a video. I was, unless I'm mistaken, at this show. They opened for Built to Spill. ;)
I wish I could have seen a 3 piece Mouse set.
It was the best! I never really adjusted to so many people on stage but everything changes
Love this version, but would love to find a live one where he's doing those harmonics + tremolo bits.
What a fun fucking song! 🙌🏽💪🏽
It's brilliant and so alive with energy
thanks for the footage. excellent
do you have any more of the show? Think this was my first show!

Late last winter down below the equator... My favorite line in the whole song
Cool this is back in 96, I think!
wish the album version was like this too. RIP MM

My mind is all made up so I'll have to sleep in it.

CAn anyone hear the lyrics at the end of the like exteneded jam?
did he add extra lyrics at one point?
@pharoid77 Ahhh, thanks for the clarification. And yeah, the show I was at WAS suffocating. ;)
I watched this when I was 19
They don't have this energy nowadays, I mean, I get it but I really wanted to witness this with my very 2 26yo eyes

Jeremiah Greene looks ripped in this!
Isaac wouldn't piss on jack white

For sure an influence but I think MM have aged better
