  • Cotswold Canals - Stroudwater Navigation, Eastington.
A Waterway coming back to life.
Events surrounding Dock Lock (Court Orchard Lock), Eastington Dock and trade at Eastington Wharf.
The story of "QUEEN ESTHER" owned by the Ford brothers, and whose wives were also called "Esther".
My clockwork powered Standard 8 cine camera in 1970 was not up to the task of filming in low light, and it is a miracle that I had not thrown some of that footage away.
The aerial views disclose a large pipe heading from the dock to the "back water". I can find no details of whether there was a conventional ground paddle or a simple plug to drain the dock.
The detail in the final sequences and final image of "Nellie" is better viewed on a large screen.
My special thanks to Michael Ayland and to Michael Handford.

A truly excellent film Robert. I particularly enjoyed the footage of Framilode Lock, as seen from the river, and I had not seen some of those Michael Handford photos before. Great history with brilliant narration too. Thank you, Paul.
