Mexico is NOT *cheap,* especially for Mexicans. It may be affordable for foreigners who are driving up housing prices for Mexicans, by the way. Cheap has a bad connotation.
That may be true on the micro economics level, but on the macro level there are lots of other factors that are also making the Mexican economy boom and drive up prices. One such thing is the Mexican government made some moves that attracted a lot of foreign investment into the country in the last few years. There are about three other factors that have nothing to do with foreigners. We did a whole video on how the peso has been performing which is actually the strongest currency against the USD in the world in the last year which is very good news for Mexico. It's very interesting if you're curious about the economics of it all.
I live in a small town in Colorado that used to be affordable for everyone. NY Times did an article on it and now our town is full of rich a**holes that are suing their neighbors. There's no way any of our kids can afford to live here. It's sad.

I am from Guadalajara and live in Portland Oregon for over 25 years. I always appreciate the well intentions of expats in my country. I just want to share my concern about gentrification in my Country. We all need to be aware of this issue that harms the people with local incomes. Thank you for your video. I am curious , what area do you live ?
Gentrification is a real thing it's true. The thing is human beings have been moving around since the beginning of time so there isn't much stopping it. Also, we try to encourage expats to integrate and contribute not just go to another country and take advantage. For example, we're in the process of creating digital marketing classes for local businesses here so they can make more money and hire more Mexicans.
Thank you for this! I was watching another channel and they kept saying "don't move to Mexico, if you are trying to save a few bucks".😮 Though, I am not moving there I was going to take advantage of the lower cost while homeschooling doing immersion into language and culture. But I am getting as close to 180 allotted days as possible 😊. Why is it frowned upon to save money😮
We think people who are saying that are either a) on a fixed income and have no way to earn more in which case you are screwed anywhere because inflation has hit everywhere or b) got to Mexico many years ago before there was a lot more foreign investment and have seen the costs go up. Either way we just came from the states so depending where you are it still feels like a deal.

As a person, who moved from EU to MX I can tell for sure that there is a lack of pastry, chocolate, tea, dairy products, rye bread and good Asian cuisine in general. However, the best sushi I had was served in Uroko Sushi, Prados Providencia. - There not many safe districts in GDL you can choose to live in. So, it wouldn't cheap to rent a cozy 2-3 bedroom apartment. Especially, with that stupid made up rule that you have to have sponsorship and reference letters. - Many houses doesn't have gas for heating and cooking. You have to deal with gas cylinder in that case. - If you live on the outskirts of the city you would stuck in traffic jams forever cause of narrow streets are not keep up with thousand of cars citizens are using instead of buses. - You definitely need a car or use Uber for moving around the city. Again, if you are living on the outskirts, you are probably cut off from shops, services, urban friendly environment, etc.
You can get around the aval rule with an alternative contract and putting more cash down. They do it all the time :) Also, we live in a walkable neighborhood with access to everything we need. THat being said, asian food in Latin America in general leaves much to be desired.
