    This whole bit was written after the final scene.
    The actor playing Ken improvised the line about going dogging and the laughter from Peter Kay is real, because he wasn't expecting it.
    He then rewrote the preceding bits of the show.

    It's called dogging because the people, usually gents, who went out to do the 'dogging' would use the excuse "I'm off to walk the dog!" as a cover. They would walk the dog to the viewing area, usually the local park, to do whatever it is they do at these venues and then return home to their spouse who was none the wiser. I had a work mate who would do this but rather strangely he didn't have a dog. The park I worked at for many years was a bit out of the way and its car park was notorious for this very thing. The punters had a very intricate flashing car lights code to avoid embarrassing mistakes and to indicate they were 'up for it'.
    I hope that's helpful info for you.
    Take it easy young uns, I always enjoy your reactions, best regards, Matt.

    • @partytime3778
      @partytime3778 3 місяці тому

      What you say is correct. Please read my comment that explains more. We introduced the car flashing lights later on, not to indicate they were "up for it", we already knew the couples and their cars. Doggers were not allowed to approach the couples car until they flashed their lights. This gave the girls time to either have a smoke/ drink but mainly for her to change into something more suitable, a button up dress or something sexy for a striptease etc. So the flashing lights indicated, the show was to begin 😁

    The name Dogging does have some relation to Dog Walking. The "watchers" originally were just dog walkers who would find these cars parked on their walk. Later as it became more of a voyeur activity, they would often carry a dog lead/leash around with them in case they ever get caught so they can give the excuse that "they let the dog off its lead and it ran away, and they are looking for it".

  • @nicksykes4575
    @nicksykes4575 2 місяці тому

    The usual explanation of where the name comes from is, if the police stumbled across the scene, the watchers would claim to be walking their dogs. Peter is from the town of Bolton, which is also the headquarters of one of Britains largest bakers, they make funny adverts, so of course Peter has been in two of them. The rest read like a who's who of Hollywood actors, Silvester Stallone, George Clooney, Robert De Nero, and the latest one with Samuel L Jackson.

    I had a very similar conversation with a work colleague once.
    It was Friday afternoon and I asked if she had anything fun planned for the weekend. SShe replied she was going dogging with her sister-in-law.
    She was a nice lady in her late 30s who'd always come across as a bit naive and unworldly so as you can imagine I was a bit taken aback!😀However she also had a history of coming out with stuff and not realising what she'd said.
    There was the time she came in looking really tired and told us her husband had kept her up all night and was really bad in bed!
    It turned out he's been ill and his coughing had kept her awake😄
    The there was the time she'd told us her husband had been batting for the otherside at the weekend😯We discovered he played for the local cricket team and they were a player short so he'd batted on their team!😂
    So when she told me she was going dogging with her sister-in-law I did wonder if I'd misheard or she thought it meant something else. Of course by this time the rest of the office were all eaves-dropping desperate to hear what she said next.
    Her version of 'dogging' was jogging, rather than walking, with their dogs which she and her sister-in-law called dogging.🤣🤣🤣
    I told her she might want to call it something else as 'doggin' has another meaning. Of course she wanted to know what so I had to explain whilst the rest of the office were crying with laughter!😁
    N.B.. The reason it's called 'Dogging' is because young couples would often park in secluded county lanes, lay-bys and car parks which would be known locally as 'lovers lanes. The only other people they were likely to encounter were dog walkers who sometimes saw more than they were expecting.
    I suspect some of these dog walkers would make a habit of going back in the hopes of seeing something similar again and some more exhibitionist couples got thrill out of being watched.

    In fact most girls preferred climbing over a fence to get to the deepest corner of the woods to enjoy the most remote spot, and far from the prying ears of any dogs.!!

    I'm 74 and it's my generation who first started dogging. I was introduced to it by my neighbour in 1971 when I was 21. I was the youngest of our group by over 10 years and expect there are only a handful of us left in the UK who can tell the true story. There is a lot of speculation where the word dogging came from and even Wikipedia have got it wrong. Dogging comes from the word dog. You own a bike, you're a biker and go biking. You own a dog, you're a dogger and go dogging. Owning a dog was the key, allowing the guy to go out at any time of night without your partner becoming suspicious. Just taking the dog for a walk. The dog was also used to get close to cars in the car part. We carried titbits that we threw close to a car and the dog would pull in that direction allowing us to look in the windows. In the early days, all doggers had a dog unless you were single. I might generate a web page explaining dogging, why and how it became so huge and the reason it expanded to beaches.

  • @rogerlundstrom6926
    @rogerlundstrom6926 2 місяці тому

    I am not 100% sure,, but if I understand it correctly the term "dogging" kind of comes from how this behaviour started. People who want to have sex but don't have any place to do (either young and don't have privacy in either's home, OR people cheating on their spouses) tended to find somewhere secluded and have sex in their car. People with dogs have to take their dogs for an early walk happened upon cars with steamed up windows.. and.. some started.. enjoying this and it grew into a culture, where you would be a "dogger" regardless if you are a person who enjoys having sex in a car in a public place where others watch, or if you prefer to.. try to find parked cars with people having sex and watch them.
    I think the word "Dogging" IS used as a walk in some other nations.. I remember some panel show where one of the people on said that it was what it meant where they came from (don't remember the show or the person.. but I THINK I remember it being Canada).. 'So.. When people misunderstand terms, it MAY be that they didn't misunderstand it just learned it through different channels.

      Must be a pretty old meaning, in 40 years I'm pretty sure I've only ever heard people referred to as dog walkers, in newspapers and in conversation, when talking about people walking dogs.
