I was once at the top near the fernicula, next to my old matchless 500 and Rowan Atkinson came out with his family, he would have been there for the motor vehicle hill climb they used to do in saltburn as he is a bit of a Motorhead 😊 didn't ask for his autograph as didn't want to disturb him with his family but he did smile 😁 .
Can't believe you have been all up and down the North East coast and missed the best place out, Hartlepool! There is so much history here and lots to see, you would need 2 days to see most things. There is also Seaton Carew 2 miles from the centre which is a seaside resort with arcades etc. I am 78 years old and disabled and the only holidays I get now is when I watch your video's. Thanks to Helen and yourself I get out and it's like having mates to talk to ( virtual mates ) ha. Take care of yourselves. Love old H. x
I completely agree. Hartlepool is a fantastic place. Worked and lived all over but came back home after twenty plus years of been away. Seaton is lovely. The headland the historic quay just to name a few
Je smiths butchers started my first job there on a yts scheme in 1987 lovely bloke he used to say help yourself to pies out the window on a dinnertime big mistake 😂😋
Oh WOW, this fabulous windows. I never knew that was there. I need to visit! Hope you and Helen and families have a fabulous festive season. Look forward to all the videos, Becks too!
Fish n chips are not unhealthy! Enjoyed watching this, thanks! I love Saltburn! The fantastic James Arthur lived in a bedsit there on Marine Parade for a while, and had gigged in The Victoria pub!
Nice video, love Saltburn. We took the wife's Uncle there for a visit when he visited from New Zealand, had some great fish and chips from the chippy on the sea front.
When I was a child and lived in North Yorkshire for years my father would take my x4 sisters and a brother & x2 horses to either saltburn or maskes by the sea for the horses to run in the sea water, as the sea water is good for their feet.
Another 'masterpiece' James. Whilst we have trams running up n down the cliffs here at Scarborough I have to admit, the Funicular at Saltburn has been well maintained and the stained glass windows look really impressive. Went to Skinningrove in the summer, on the sunny day, and spent a few hours on the beach and looking for fossils. Enjoyed it. Weather was so good our day out turned into a tour up to Barnard Castle , over the Pennines and into the Dales. A brill impromptu week out. Ah the joy of motorhoming. If you get chance to visit Ravenscar for so. For a town that never was it holds a lot of history like remains of RAF early warning Radar Station and the remains of the old Alum Works which took the P out of London. Have fun..
Hi M8. Enjoyable videos. I'm new to you. But I live near Saltburn and walk to Skinningrove often. Now the Ship in Saltburn date's to the 1500 s along with some now demolished buildings alongside. The Victorian town grew in the 19 th century off the railways. Keep up the good work.
I grew up there. My sister was born there. Still have great friends living there! So luckily I get to see Saltburn reasonably often. Everywhere changes; but the Saltburn I knew in the 1960s to the mid-1970s holds especially fond memories.
I hope Helen gives you a good talking too, reading all those information boards to us, when she wasn’t there 🤣. Great video James, merry Christmas to you all.
Hi James, wow that lift mechanism was amazing, the pier is flipping long too. I'm loving this vloggin down the coast, taking me all over the places I would never experience. Thanks for that. Debbie Brid
Ha ha ha, the pier isn't very long at all, a bit of camera trickery off James! It's about 200 metres, though it was longer. It was hit by various storms which reduced it's length by half.
I usedto fish off the original pier, one night the police came and removed everyone as their was a huge storm brewing many of us didnt want to go as it was a great njght for cod, anyway the next day the end bit was gone. Phewwww
Fair to say you walked the chips off. Love the way you are so polite and nice with everyone you meet. You bring out the best in people doing that. The guys operating the funicular were so proud of it. Have a good Christmas James.
Great video James. Had a couple of great holidays in Saltburn as a kid, and have visited a few times since. Used to call the funicular the " cliff lift" as I couldn't say funicular ( still can't). We went to the valley gardens via the miniature railway ( also walkable ) which were lovely, especially in the summer. Thanks for the snippets of information. The Victorian's certainly new how to build things. Love your humour. Thanks for posting.
You didn't need to worry on the funicular as there was 4 people coming down😂 My Mum came from Middlesbrough and we used to go up on the train from Buxton every year in the early 50's. The train from Middlesbrough to Redcar went through the steelworks and you could feel the heat from the cupolas. We went up in 2018 and went to a chippie opposite the car park you were in. Brought back some memories. Thank you
Oooh, it looks lovely and peaceful ✌️, very quiet, love them cable cars, the scenery is breathtaking, you made me hungry 😀 watching you eat them chips 🍟 😂😂😂😂❤
Eh up James good to see Saltburn where I played as a kid 50 years ago. I lived at Brotton where my dad worked. Happy memories. Thanks mate good blog happy days . Love to both x
What a pretty and peaceful place; thank you for this video 😊. The Fernacular was really cool. Would love to see the inside of the old smuggler's pub, maybe you and Helen can visit together. ❤
Soon to change with free parking being scraped, toilets will soon be getting a 30p charge, restricted parking along the top for campers, and just lost one of the main train services due to locals complaining the trains are too noisy.... The "Grove" is an amazing little beach love walking the dog down there
My friend moved to saltburn beginning this yr, not had chance to go yet but how beautiful is it even in December, definitely on my list for next year x
This is where I grew up and came home after 10years in London to bring my kids up, I had the best childhood memories ever the 70s and the 80s and I don’t think I could live without being by the sea 🌊
Lightweight ! Taking the funicular railway instead of walking up all the steps to the top like I did ! Admittedly, like you, I couldn't resist a portion of chips from Seaview Chippy and ate them walking along the pier and back ...total heaven ! ... By the way if you were impressed by the water powered railway at Saltburn, make a note to visit the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway in North Devon if you ever get near there one day - it's something else ! ... The roads in that part of the UK are incredibly steep, I seriously thought I wouldn't make it up to the top of one ... just like the buses I saw carefully negotiating the winding road connecting the station area at Saltburn down to where you parked up. Wonderful little town ... keep 'em coming James !
Ey up James great vlog…..I like a bit of James history 😂….elsie looking great too bet it’s great for you this time of the year saltburn looking nice too bet
We bought a campervan in the summer and one of our trips was to stay in the same Saltburn car park as you and then went along to Skiningrove (?) beach so it brought back memories. We had our tea in the Ship (which was great) and looking forward to returning next year.
Another great video. We love to see you enjoying Elsie. We think you don't look so tired and you seem brighter in yourself. Happy Christmas to you and Helebobs and thank-you for all the entertainment this year.
Another great video James! It brought back memories of a red hot summer day when I was a kid, so thank you! Hope you enjoyed your chips, you walked the calories off! xx
Oooh get those chips down ya neck!! 😂😂😂😂enjoy em !! Saltburn is a nice place. My son goes there on his motorbike to chill. Can’t believe you’re going to staithes I absolutely adore that place.Xx
I've been to Saltburn a couple of times and done the funicular. Me our lass and the dog. Lovely place. But you didn't mention one of the towns most famous sons, David Coverdale of Deep Purple and Whitesnake. But before your time I suppose.
Well James you have studying hard for your last two vlogs. I’m impressed. Beautiful beach Pier and huts tonight. Go on you should have got a fish as well. Best saying of the week. Can I smell your chips I’m on a diet. Classic. Cracking view from the funicular great vlog James. I’ll si thee. ❤

Fantastic vlog, me and my mum missed out on the cliff lift back in April cos of the fire damage. We stayed in Skinningrove and Cattersky Sands was absolutely beautiful in the sun 🤩
I was living in saltburn when the cable snapped on the funicular railway. Thankfully it was overnight. The top car free fell into the station at the bottom. It now has 2 cables!!
Love Saltburn, cracking walk behind where you parked! I’d move up that way tomorrow, but can’t leave the family and grandchildren! Love Yorkshire and the people. 🙂 Chips looked nice - could just eat them!

I stopped in one of his cottages a month or so back, Steven... he's a smashing bloke, and Bishops was a great cottage.I walked up past the mine and past the glamping pods... didn't click on to the camping side, so good to know as that's a spot on price with electric 👍

Great trip today. Very interesting about the Funicular and its workings. That curry looked boiling hot. Looking forward to seeing Staithes. Thanks James.
When you were counting the stories on those houses on marine parade, I fitted the velux windows in the top left hand roof, the first flat on the row. I am a roofer by trade.
I love that they're keeping the beach huts going and that you can rent them, most places nowadays, they're privately owned. I could eat some proper chip shop chips right this minute!

A big part of Victorian Saltburn was the Italianate gardens - still worth a visit to imagine how things used to be. Miniature railway and tearoom.
You do make me laugh with your brilliant videos and your sense of humor.
I live 5 miles away along the coast and love it so much, i wouldn't want to be anywhere else...
