- Check out the AMAZING dioramas by Ken Hamilton and entries at the GSL Model Car Championship 2023. Ken has been a fixture at the GSL for decades. And had several dioramas in the Linx Project at GSL, but no models in competition. Ken's dioramas have become sought-after works of art and he was unable to attend as he had a gallery opening the same weekend.
Dioramas cut across all areas of model subjects. Military modelers, shipbuilders, figure modelers, and railroad modelers all build dioramas. Moreover, dioramas are a modeling area in their own right.
GSL features several world-class dioramas including the huge Linx Project, a decades-long collaboration between several of the world's best automotive model builders who came together to build a series of dioramas depicting the history of the Ford Linx.

He builds the coolest dioramas I've ever 😂and. What a treasure he is and what treasures he's leaving us!
❤yup!!!
Great artist and incredible detail. He has got to have an incredible memory due to these looking like places he knows or has been. Attention to detail and talent to make everything is astounding. Nice video and inspirational.
Ken Hamilton, your œuvres d'excellence embody the absolute apotheosis of diorama conceptualisation, construction, and execution, blending the artistry of a sculptor and an artisan with the technical mastery of an architect and a designer!
Check out his Facebook. Amazing 🤩 and
All I can say is wow, what a artist he is 👍👍
Right? We wanted to do some shows with him but the 1500 mile drive… 😅
Wow. Thanks so much for all the kind words, Dale. I truly appreciate all the work that went into this video.
Loved doing it!!! Let’s do MORE!! 😊❤🔦🚀
Hello, Mr. Hamiton, and thank you for all your many marvels in miniature! Have you written and edited any books and photographic compilations of dioramas and their creation?

Hi, David.
Thanks for the kind words. I wrote a book on scale auto dioramas in 2000 that was published by Kalmbach. It's out of print but it shows up every so often on Ebay. I also wrote for Scale Auto magazine for many years before it went under around 2020.
Amazing art. My favorite is the historic "FLYER Diorama. I have seen it in person, the details are stunning.
That is a mind blowing diorama!
I love the Pick -A- Parts !!!!!
Right?? Check the paint and rust on the upside down car!!
Thanks for showing all these amazing Dioramas. As a beginner Diorama builder myself it's all very inspirational.
Great to hear!
What an incredible artist! These dioramas are sooooooooo real that it looks like you could just walk right in! Gracias
Thank you so much 😀
Great vidio, amazing art work. Thanks for the morning coffee...
Thank you too! More coffee! Making a third cup now.
These are so great! Thank you for sharing them with us.
Glad you like them!
Awesome stuff, Ken was an inspiration to behold. His book's are in my hobby room and helped me no end with my diorama's. Cheer's JV
Thanks!!
What can you say about Ken Hamilton's models? Superb, Excellent, etc.. I have watched his work for many years and continue to be amazed. Years ago Ken helped me on a building i was making. We were both on modelers forum and I posted a photo of a control tower that i was scratchbuilding in HO scale. I think i mentioned that i was disatisfied with the screen door material i had for the screen door. Low and behold, Ken sent me a couple of silk screen material samples that were perfect. That is a true modeler at work, helping out.
Keep up the wonderful work. Simply amazing.
Indeed! People should follow him on Facebook. He posts everything and the whole process. Amazing. And new projects every few weeks. Because he really cranks stuff out!!
Ok now i feel inspired to do diaramas!!! these were wonderful!! I probably can never beat any of these but i feel inspired to create now!! Thanks you two for sharing I fully enjoyed these!! Have a great week ahead you two!
You can do it!
Thanks 😊
Welcome 😊
Man, I love these and like Kayren and you Dale the details are awesome ! Your a master at as far as I'm concerned Kayren. Your long, long trailer brought back memories of going to the movie with my parents. ❤😊
Wow, thanks!
WOW amazing he has such a eye for detail so inspiring. Diaramas are just small worlds in them selfs. I see Karyn being inspire to do some builds after this one show. Thank you for sharing Ken's work with us. And yes that one I could not tell it was a diarama.
GOD BLESS 🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖
Well said! Bless you too!!
I thoroughly enjoyed today's video on the dioramas. One in particular caught my attention: The Bomber gas station! I know the EXACT inspiration for that particular diorama: Art Lacey's The Bomber gas station on SE McLoughlin Blvd. in Milwaukie, Oregon! Sadly, the restaurant and the B-17 are no longer there; but the Lacey Lady is being restored to full flying condition! 😀
Super!!!
Total cool. I have been working on a Texaco Gas Station for a couple years and I don't know when I will finish it.
Get back on it!! 😊
Fantastic!!!!!
Many thanks!! Hi again!! 😊
@@ToyManTelevision You put out some terrific videos!!!
love it.
Thanks!!
Right up your street Karyn!
No kidding.
Impressive work.
Amazing
Dale, you showed all the dioramas at GSL but mine (Pinstripper), was it something I said? Enjoyed the video, Ken is amazing!
Oops. We try to shoot everything. But between the two of us we miss stuff. Oops. I included everything we had photos and video of. 😢
These dioramas are amazing. Ken sure is an artist. Detail at this level is well over the top. They truly are 3D snapshots of life.
Sitting here, it suddenly struck me that Jason Jenson does stuff like this too, creating scenes to sell his (and friends) HO structure kits. Jason is a master at structure kit bashing, I wonder what he could do in a much bigger scale?
OH ya, Those trailer dioramas you folks build, would do well in the diorama contests, just like I said.
It is sad that this model show/contest is going away, maybe one of the other shows will take the baton and run with it.
Well, soon it's back to (yawn) trains, after this it might get boring (NOT) ;-)
Jason is a close follower on kens page. They exchange ideas all the time!! ❤
.... And I'm a great fan of Jason's work.
There used to be a B-17 gas station on Highway 99E in Milwaukie, Oregon. Like the diorama, the bomber served as the cover over the gas pumps to keep the rain off while you were pumping gas. No stairs though.
We had a trainer airplane over a cool little gas station near the airport. We went there all the time because my uncle worked at the airport. He was an air traffic controller. And in the Air Guard. Anyway he got a .$50 discount.
One thing missing is a Kendall oil sign. Kendall and Pennzoil came out of the high paraffin crude oil in Pennsylvania. The first sold kerosene recovered from salt domes as a pharmaceutical. They then realized that it was flammable (can we say snake oil). Whales were going extinct because they were killed for the whale oil till kerosene replaced it. (Refer to “History of Refining”, by Ed Ekholm. There are lots of stories. (Sorry could not resist). Great video!
That’s great history. And the development of Benzene that powered early cars. Sold at pharmacies as there were no gas stations. Turns out to be one of the worst carcinogenics! But people bought bottles of it and poured in in their curved dash Oldsmobiles.
@@ToyManTelevision Yeah go figure!
A lost art guy's there isn't an app for it 😂
Hi. Right? The harder a thing is the better the results over time. Easy is as good as it’s going to be when you open the ap.
