- Gypsy Pond Park, approximately 2.4 acres, was once a pristine swimming, fishing and skating area in the early 1900s. This hidden gem features a quiet walking trail, thick stands of trees, bushes, birds, butterflies and dragonflies
Played or hiked in and around Gypsy Pond and up to Kings Pond from 53-94...so thankful some of that area was saved!
During the early 1900's until around 1940, my family had the exclusive rights to harvest the winter ice from Gypsy Pond. The ice was stored in field-stone buildings along Goffle Road in Hawthorne. The business supplied much of the ice for Paterson during that era.
was always in gypsy pond when growing up in Hawthorne.
I've also seen old family photos of wooden cranes on the shoreline lifting the ice blocks from the pond. This could be part of the foundation still at the pond.
Warner...Just about lived at Gypsy...remeber me? RICK DOBSON...
where do you park (legally) to get here?
