Nothing like Glass smooth water on such a beautiful river. Now that you got the boat, how about an invite to a one day fishing trip? You make me regret not buying a certain house on the Rainbow/Withlacoochee River many years ago. Actually it was on Lake Rousseau, down there close to Dunnellon, Florida. I believe you will be happier with a fully loaded boat, versus just a few more MPH. The boat looks like a winner to me, but the motor is quite loud.
I've always heard about the rainbow River, never been on it. I have fished lake Rousseau when I was younger. Fully loaded is the only way this boat is going to be, if I want to go fast I'll climb in our bay boat. Driving fast on some of these rivers is asking for trouble, even in a shallow water boat such as this one. The motors are loud because it's essentially a lawnmower engine with the exhaust above water unlike a normal outboard. That's the price you pay to be able to go places outboards can't go.
@@TKOutdoors , The Rainbow River is really beautiful, it's just to short , It may be a real fun river to fish with the Whoppper Plopper, though. It has a lot of Grass on the bottom hiding fish, of course the day I fished it, the bite was really slow. My whole week in Florida with my Father was rather uneventful. The place looks extremely fishy every where you go, making it harder to find the treasured Honeyholes. Where the Rainbow Springs flow from the ground held some 10+ pound bass the day I visited the Headwaters, that area is sadly a no fishing Zone.
It's a flat bottom so expect a bumby ride in rough waters. With that said, it's got a double floor, welded in supports across the boat and welded in runners that go up and down the hull underneath the top floor. It does not flex or beat around like a normal thin aluminum boat. These are built to take abuse. Other than that it fishes just like a normal boat. Being flat bottom the wind can blow the back end around if you don't keep the motor in the water.
I use my stick it anchor pole and connect it to one of the cleats. You can also order a gator tail boat with welded in pipe front and rear to stick a pole in. My dealer already had one setup that way.
Great video! We fish the same areas. I plan to buy one of these rigs but was concerned about maneuvering a 20' (18 + drop deck) boat further down river. I was going to get a 17' but it looks like you are doing just fine with the 18'. Do you like the pointed bow or would you get the flat bow if you bought one again?
Perfectly fine with a two blade prop (better for load carrying). I've carried a 1000lbs of people and gear before, you know it's in there but it gets on plane. If constantly carrying a heavy load, I'd go with a 54 wide. The occasional big load, the 48 is fine.
Yes, it is a surface drive engine. Basically a lawn mower engine that doesn't need cooling water and a prop that's specifically designed to run in a couple of inches of water. I've had one for about 6 years and love it for shallow water fishing. At the end of the day, it's still a lawn mower engine and I wonder how they will hold up with constant saltwater use. I stick to mainly fresh water with mine. This is my second boat with that type of engine.
It's different than a standard boat. Not as tight due to the style motor but I have no problem on these tight small rivers. I slow down for very tight turns. I have not noticed any sliding or problems of that nature, but I bought the extreme model that has a hull design specifically made to help eliminate that. I've owned a lot of boats in my life and I don't regret this purchase at all for my style fishing.
3 blade is smoother, a little faster and I feel like better reverse. 2 blade carries a load a lot better, gets on plane quicker and is better in the mud/weeds.
Do you have a lock for the 40XD, and if so what type? I'm looking to buy a Gatortail just like this one, and want to secure the motor to the boat to prevent theft.
I get 31.5 mph by myself. That's loaded with three batteries, trolling motor, fishing gear, cooler, spare prop, tools ect. No idea what it runs unloaded.
Thanks, I don't know why my video went blank at 7 minute mark. I still need to show the motor better, reverse ect. I want to see more videos of your boat and that dog fetching in the water.
I think you will be in the 20k range. Obviously I was more with the add ons. They have basic packages in the 17-18k range. Definitely not cheap, but well built and my most enjoyable boat purchase ever.
@@cynthiahughes376 Cynthia I understand where you are coming from. In case you have not noticed I have not mentioned the name of this river in the last several videos. At the end of the day this is everyone's river, it doesn't belong to a select few. You know as well as I do it's extremely difficult to run this river without specific types of boats or knowledge of where the rocks, channels ect are. I get it, I really do, you don't want this becoming another ichnatucknee or Wakulla. I have very few viewers and a lot of them live in other states or countries. I don't believe my videos are going to cause a mass of people to come to the river.
A little louder but a deeper sounding tone. I personally don't feel like I need hearing protection. Even though it's technically a lawnmower engine, it doesn't seem as loud as my zero turn with a vanguard engine.
Hi, Andrew and Tiffany! I just had to watch this one again.
Thank you
Hi, Andrew and Tiffany! Nice boat.
Thank you
The all around best review I have ever seen !!!
Hey thanks for watching!
That's a awesome boat. Your a blessed man
We work hard for our things no doubt, but we absolutely are blessed in many ways. I'm definitely thankful for what I have and where I live.
@@TKOutdoors that's great to hear
Awesome video bud, really enjoyed that
Thank you
Awesome video. That’s my dream boat. Would love going up and down that river.
Thank you, we love this boat!
that’s sweet,,, the all in one boat.get a couple of them lounge chairs run some mosquito nets and have a weekend getaway lol ..great review
I know right, sounds like a plan. Can literally lean the lounge chair back and sleep. I need to look into that mosquito net idea 👍
Absolutely beautiful drone shot at the end, it helps having a great location!
Thanks, we definitely have some beautiful places to explore around here.

Love the videos!! Do more reviews
I'm planning on it, that video didn't upload properly. I need to do one showing reverse and a few other things. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video and very nice boat 👌
Thank you!
Great review!
Thanks
Like Will Smith Said ''Oh I Have Gotta get me one of these''!!!!
They are nice! I'm enjoying it greatly.
I’m looking at one of these boats, and I’d like to know how it would work in a bigger Lake / deeper/ rougher water.

Man that's a good looking boat. I'm looking one just for waterfowl hunting. Lake I hunt in super shallow so that gator tail will do just fine.
Which Garmin do you have also?
Thanks, I have a Garmin Stryker 4
Oh yeah! Just What I’ve been waiting for!! What do you do if you want to stay in one place and work an area. Do you have/use a spud pole kit?
There you go!
Don't know why it went blank around the 7 minute mark. It didn't upload that section of video, I'm going to have to try to fix that.
I use my stick it anchor pole and connect it to one of the cleats. You can also order a gator tail boat with welded in pipe front and rear to stick a pole in. My dealer already had one setup that way.
Hey man what ladder did you get for your boat
A standard 3 rung stainless boat ladder from Amazon.
Where’s the dealer around you for these? I’ve been in Wacissa and Wallula but never had a surface drive. Thinking of trying one out
Jack's boats and trailers in Perry Florida. Tell Waymond I sent you
What river? maybe i missed it in the vid.

I was going to get a 17' but it looks like you are doing just fine with the 18'. Do you like the pointed bow or would you get the flat bow if you bought one again?
I fish much smaller rivers with this boat and don't have a problem. I enjoy the look of the pointed bow and like the space it gives for the lights.
Awesome I want one !!!
It's my favorite boat purchase ever!
What’s biggest load you have had in the boat? Looking at buying one soon but had the run around about how a 18/48 does with a 4 man no gear load
Perfectly fine with a two blade prop (better for load carrying). I've carried a 1000lbs of people and gear before, you know it's in there but it gets on plane. If constantly carrying a heavy load, I'd go with a 54 wide. The occasional big load, the 48 is fine.
Hey buddy, what is that boat mainly used for? I’ve seen a few coming and going out of Rocky. Is it for shallow water?
Yes, it is a surface drive engine. Basically a lawn mower engine that doesn't need cooling water and a prop that's specifically designed to run in a couple of inches of water. I've had one for about 6 years and love it for shallow water fishing. At the end of the day, it's still a lawn mower engine and I wonder how they will hold up with constant saltwater use. It is used for shallow muddy ponds for duck hunting or fishing
How's the turning on this style boat? Long and wide, or tight? I also live in Florida (central ) and we get into some tight areas.
It's different than a standard boat. Not as tight due to the style motor but I have no problem on these tight small rivers. I slow down for very tight turns. I have not noticed any sliding or problems of that nature, but I bought the extreme model that has a hull design specifically made to help eliminate that. whats the effect if you put 3 bladed props?
3 blade is smoother, a little faster and I feel like better reverse. 2 blade carries a load a lot better, gets on plane quicker and is better in the mud/weeds.
Do you have a lock for the 40XD, and if so what type? I'm looking to buy a Gatortail just like this one, and want to secure the motor to the boat to prevent theft.
No I don't, luckily theft isn't much of a problem in our area until you get into cities.
nice boat! what state are y'all in? water looks amazing
Thanks, this is in Florida. There are several spring fed rivers across the state
Where did you get that top from?
Amazon
That water is so clear, what state?
Florida, we are blessed with a lot of spring fed rivers across the state.
What do you get top speed for this rig? Thinking about getting the dual motor in 22 ft long.
I get 31.5 mph by myself. That's loaded with three batteries, trolling motor, fishing gear, cooler, spare prop, tools ect. No idea what it runs unloaded.
What's your trolling motor shaft length?
I believe it's 42 inches
Thank you sir!
whered you get the bimini
Amazon, measure the center of your boat or where you think it will mount and order one based off of that

What GPS is that
Garmin Stryker 4
How many horsepower is that noisy motor?
Noisy? Sounds beautiful to me, and it's 40 hp. Sounds much better in person, like a Harley going down the river.
What river is this?
The Wacissa River.
How much was this rig just boat, motor, and trailer
I think you will be in the 20k range. Obviously I was more with the add ons. They have basic packages in the 17-18k range. Definitely not cheap, but well built and my most enjoyable boat purchase ever.
The Kelley's Outdoors thanks, and yes it seems like a lot of fun

Wacissa
