The Best Oil for Your B58 Engine: ua-cam.com/video/Qak_u1RMMcU/v-deo.html
I’ve been doing this every 6000 miles for the past 36000. Brake fluid and air filters are done every spring with the lifetime replacement as well.
Been wondering how this process worked with FCP. Thank you for the informative video as usual!
Always got the best B58 content good work brother!
Just got a 440i and my first bmw so loving the vids and information
never got to see a video of this oils analysis result. This would be really useful to me as i have an m140i and had used both 5w30 and 5w40. Still wondering which one is best option for me. I do track days as youre starting to do right now. on last trackday with 5w30 and 30-34C temp day oil got to 120C which never did before, normally on 5w40 i saw it on 110-115 but also slightly colder day.
Please do videos on these kind of topics now that youre doing trackdays.😀
Thanks as per usual 👍
Does the oil and filter need to be the same as the oil and filet you bought to return ?
I usually just need to move the weather strip and then use a swivel socket and it's good enough to get the filter housing out
When i used my swivel it hit the rear engine cover trim before the housing was completely removed 😭
@@kern417 that's interesting. Maybe find a shorter swivel socket? Think that would save you some time for each oil change but hey you're the engineer lol
Kee the oil container on its side when pouring, removes the air and actually empies faster than what you are doing. And dont pour so fast, it can backfill into the pcv system…very common on these engines and audis as well
I do pour on the side as showin in the video but the oil drains very well. It's also easier for me because I can't keep steady so putting the whole spout in the hole prevents it from spilling
I just bought a 2023 Supra A91 6MT and just hit 1,000 miles. Would you recommend 5w-30 in my B58? I only have a full exhaust system and going to soon add a downpipe. Tune maybe in a few months but not sure yet.
As long as it meets the certification you should be fine
Starter is same location on automatics
The oil filter is tricky. I think I either need to unhook the wire harness on the opposite side or remove the rubber trim/wire. I don’t know the trick to remove the other harness. Removing the brace bar seems like a pain.
Man no matter what I do i hit something. It just won't work 😂
Hey Kern, Should I use 0W-20 or 5W-30 in my 440i, I live in colorado sometimes it gets pretty cold, what do you recommend
0W30
I stay in Georgia USA, and im debating between 5w30 or 0w30
Coldest it get out here is -5°c to -8°c or so,but thts just for a few months out of the year, rest its always above 15°c.
TIA
i prefer 0w if it's available
@@kern417 Freak, I already ordered me some 5w30 sadly from FCP
Hey Kevin who do you use to ship? I’ve heard stories about some UPS stores not wanting to accept used oil.
Usually USPS
I seen in one of your videos that you use “ISTA”, we used that at the dealership. Can you show us how to have that at home? It would be very helpful. thank you man
You find it online , also ebay they sell it complete woth laptop 200-300€
@@bmwsincekid would I pay a monthly fee?
Could you show us the center jack point? Or what's behind the cover?
It's the center of the subframe
How do you get FCP
I am wondering what king of gloves you use. They seem pretty good
Nitrile gloves ftw 🧤
@@kern417 thank you !
FCP has the BFE as their oil change kit now? I thought it was always special tec LL
Not sure but it might change from time to time. I buy everything separately in bulk
whats the difference between 5w=30 and 5w-40? i usually use liquimoly 5w-40
5w40 will have a thicker viscosity at the engine's operating temperature. i posted a video of an oil analysis with 5w40 and it worked fine. But I switched to 5w30 because thinner viscosity works well, warms up faster, and transmits less losses in the engine.
With the oil on your housing your overtigting
30 * dollar oil changes their kit is like 80 something and shipping Costs wct.
I love fop euro but they be shipping like they only have one worker lol takes such a long time. unless you pay overnight shipping
😂 def can be hit or miss
Curious how FCP can run a business always refunding people for used oil & oil filters?
Also how to you save the service in the service history?
I wonder the same thing about saving service you do yourself.
Yea i wish they would ship to EU
Is it better to run 5w30 over 0w20?
Off course 0w20 is good for environment Not For engine!
They both work well. 0w is better if you are in climates where it gets extremely cold because it will give better cold start protection.
I've never managed to get more than 5.5ltrs in my 240i before it's at the upper end of max. I've never dared put more in
6.5 liters thats how much needs
Holy shit man. I’m super happy Toyota made it MUCH easier to remove the oil filter on the Supra. That just seems so damn annoying.
I currently changed my oil from BMW’s 0W-20(ya I know) to Liqui-Moly Molygen 5W-40 along with a bottle of Liqui-Moly’s MOS2 additive. Waiting to hear back from Blackstone on my 0W-20 oil analysis. Really hoping everything looks good. Luckily I only had like 1,500 miles on that oil I sent in before realizing I need to get that junk out ASAP.
Plenty of people have great luck and results with 0w20. There's a lot of misinformation claiming it's bad when it's perfectly fine for most setups.
@@kern417 MHD, Liqui-Moly and others recommended 5W-40 when tuned plus my driving style and when running ethanol. I couldn’t find anything positive online about 0W-20.
When you find a data analysis showing that 0w20 is bad in the B58, let me know. People that talk negatively are just assuming, just like you. The engine was designed with clearances that require the right oil weight to properly lubricate the components. If anything, going to too thick of an oil on an engine with very tight tolerances is what you should avoid.
@@kern417 That’s fair. You’re not suggesting a top notch 5w-40 is harmful? The Supra manual even states 0w-20 to 5w-40 is acceptable.
@@Based_F22 absolutely not. Just that 0w20 isn't bad. Ive gone from 0w20 to 5w40 now 5w30 and doing data collection to see how they all perform and they've all done great. I think 0w20 or 0w30 is ideal for cold start protection and quick heating.
FCP FTW
Did you switch to 5W-30 cuz you thought -20 is too thin ??
No
20 is way too thin that good for nothing
@@bmwsincekid 20 is perfect for an engine designed for 20, just like 40 is perfect for an engine designed for 40 and 60 for an engine that's designed for 60. You cannot just just guess whether it's thick enough or not with no data.
@@kern417 i dont need data to see that its like water … doesent
Need to much thinking… no matter design if the viscosity is not good logical… Same as if a Car was designed to run on 245/30/20 but you want more grip then go with 275/30/20 its just logic …
@@bmwsincekid no, not just logic. Several oil analysis have been posted to prove that 0w-20 works fine. I ran 0w-20 for 3 years with no issues. If you don't have data then you're not actually trying to understand how it works.
My Mechanic also Used 5w30 bmw oil … in Germany Bmw Used 0w30
Both work great 👍🏾
I use 0w30 in winter time, and 5w40 in summer
Both work great regardless of the season 👍🏾
@@samuel0403 i think 5w30 is the best Inbetween 0w30 and 5w40 Some b58 uses 0w20 in the Usa thats water
@@bmwsincekid Yep, 0w20 is only good for lowering mpg
It's crazy that you can get your oil change for free!
Quite convenient 🙂
