Been waiting for this for a few days. Yeah I agree with the prices in Singapore but I guess this is the best option in Southeast Asia because elsewhere it’s crazier. Thank you for the great video. Keep it up

William: thank you for the kind words. I think prices are high since wine drinking is not a mature industry in Singapore. Once it is more popularized and less of just a thing for the upper middle class, prices should go down. You can always find value in any place but you just have to know prices really well. Cheers!

From Spain, here you have my top three favourites:
    -Luberri cepas viejas
    -Viña Tondonia gran reserva
    -Pujanza Cisma
Honestly it is usually harder to find small brands from Spain when abroad but if you can find any of them please try them!

@@TrophyWineHunter yeah the other two are small producers so I think it will be hard to find them. Thats the problem because italian and french producers, even small, are more present in the international market. If you need info about any brand from Spain here I am :)

    Missed you on your visit
I am an expat in SG for 4 years, lived in HK for 10 years before. Wines here def more expensive than US, EU, and HK because of import duties.
Agree on staff knowledge. Those are better at some specialty retailers. I do buy wine from 1855 sometimes, if they are on Promo they can be attractive like what you get in North America, otherwise 20-30% more - so only buy on Promo 😂, they change every month and gets you to try new things.
There are some shops that do direct imports of Burg and Bordeaux (Wineculture) that offer better pricing on higher ends.
As for restos with proper wine service, knowledge, and selections, there are tons of them, but not your typcial day to day. Happy to recommend or take you on your next visit. Some do free corkage on Weekdays.
Agree duty free prices are nothing special unless some standard entry level wines , like Penfolds and Frescobaldi are all cheaper in Duty free, sometimes you get good Bordeaux deals. My sense is Bordeaux in general is way too expensive in SG compared to HK, but less so for new world wines like from Aus/ Nz.
    All the best, great content.
    Cheers,
    Atul

Atul: thank you for viewing my video and your great comments! I agree with all of them and I did see a members price at 1855.
I hope I wasn't too negative but I hope to encourage wineries to come to Singapore as I think it is still an untapped market and hope that retailers/restaurants will get more knowledge/serious about wine. Please like, subscribe and keep watching. Cheers!

@@TrophyWineHunter .. by promo i meant each month the shop knocks down 15-25% on prices of select 30-40 label. I think just like one of those you picked up.
On wineries coming to SG, I have seen diff importers organize wine events and dinners with diff wineries, but probably festivies around it are not as well marketed like HK

Thank you for this video review. It makes me feel much more comfortable when looking for wines in LCBO and SAQ. Bin 138 $88? It only cost $50 at LCBO. There are a few factors that might cause wines in Singapore to be much higher. 1) Import tax ( my friend warned me not to get wines at Singapore ESPECIALLY well known labels), 2) cost of living ( includes rent) 3) Inflation ( well that goes for everywhere), 4) wealthy folks + other capitals from China. Although our selections isn't as great but at least I don't need to sell my kidney just to get a bottle. From now on if I hear someone complain that it's pricey at LCBO, I'll gladly tell them to look at prices at Singapore.

Oak Cellar has the worst prices in Singapore. There are a few others that have similar range and better prices.
Also agree that the wine knowledge of staff in the 3 shops you mentioned are bad. You would need to go to more independent shops where their staff tend to be more passionate and knowledgeable.
