Just watched the movie, and it reminded me so well of how glad I was that I played the trumpet. The band was always kicked back in the rear. No danger.
Marines were always known for it. They got slack for awhile. Cry babies telling mommies the food was bad & they got yelled at. Momy called her senator, my baby is unhappy. They'll die for you. Even for the nasty name callers. Who's ignorance is apparent about warriors. SEMPER FI
Okay, couple things here. One, love this movie! Two, as an ex military man, I've served with many soldiers and marines. One thing that's always bothered me about this movie is the lack of respect that these men showed for an NCO. Every marine I've ever known was the tip top level of gung-ho in the world and their respect for authority was also tip-top. Lipping off to a Gunnery Sargeant like these guys..impossible. Now, I know this is just a movie, but I'd be very interested to hear from other marines about the attitude of these, so called, marines and also the scene later between Highway and Suede.
Thing you have to remember is the time frame this movie happens in. I don't know your era of service. But my gramps was an E-8 during this time frane and dad was a young pup in the army at the time. There was a definite morale and image problem in the armed forces at the time. This is set less then 10 years after the fall of saigon, and not even 5 years after the fiasco that was operation eagle claw and the tehran embassy fiasco. The military was still teying to rebuild itself and shake off the ghosts of Vietnam. It really wasn't until well into the reagan years that the military went through a HUGE facelift. It didn't truly return to form until after desert storm and the show of force against saddam. Just my .02 as a civilian raised in a military household of the time. Its a situation we are facing once again with the bumbling of the GWOT and the emberassing run from kabul.
@@Banthisyoutube-zs6sx Mostly agree with your post, but the Corps was well on its way back in 1982. The URINALYSIS and kicking out those who popped positive, starting in 1981. It made a huge difference. Also a big pay raise from Carter after giving us Crap duting his high inflation presidency. Reagan added more and we got more quality people.
When I was in the Corps in the 80s, there is no way in Hell non rates would ever treat a gunney like that. Impossible. Im not even sure that the squids, propeller heads and army doggies would treat an E-7 in that manner. It does remind me of an incident during my time in the Corps. We had a lance coolie(Lance Corporal)get into a heated argument with a corporal in formation in front of company headquarters once. It got so hot that the lance coolie demanded to see the first Sargent, and the corporal said “no, you cannot talk to the first Sargent”. And I’ll never forget that lance coolie going off like a firecracker. He told the corporal in a VERY angry voice that he could not stop him from talking to the first sargent, that he was going to speak to him with or without permission and he was going to tell the first Sargent that he tried to block him from seeing him. To this day I remember that corporal’s face losing all color. 😂 My apologies for any bad typing, I’m on my phone.
Movie is quite moving in parts. Highway's at the end of his career, probably got no idea what to do outside the corps, got relationship issues and yet he's as motivated and proud as ever. Great character.
So Gunny Highway has been in at least 24 years, has a Medal of Honor, and is only a Gunny? This dude done fucked up. I bet he’s been every rank in the Marine Corps up to Gunny twice and you know what? He doesn’t give a fuck.
I hit Army Basic in 1982... Back in the days when misbehavior, misunderstanding, or being born stupid would get your bell rung by clipboard-wielding Drill who was concerned about your ability to learn. I have no idea if it's better now or not. It's obviously been a long time since I graduated from BDU. However, I will say that such treatment got MY attention. 🤣 And I will stipulate that I did indeed deserve at least 2/3s of the slaps upside my dome.

Boys soft & weak die in war, men toughened usually live.
Yes our family Marine, my brother Marine Recon. And I'm dam proud of him. He saw hell face to face. I've seen the tears in the eyes of these strong brave men. It humbles you. Your hear breaks knowing the horrors they've endured.
RESPECT our warriors. One day your life may depend on them. They'll die for you. Even for the nasty name callers. Who's ignorance is apparent about warriors.
SEMPER FI
Not with Biden running things...I'd go awol before they ever tried to recall me for service...
Just noticed this I love. When he throws the radio there is an X mark the spot on the board where he wanted to hit for camera queues. Great addition!
“It’s my will against yours, and you WILL lose.”
This movie is incredible!💙💙💙💙💙💙💙. 5 stars!!.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Filmed primarily at MCB Camp Pendleton. When stationed there I have run along some of those same river beds and trails.
"I don't want to get my ass shot off in some far away land "
"Because YOU DON'T HABLA!"
My apologies for any bad typing, I’m on my phone.
@@Banthisyoutube-zs6sx ... less than* ten years / the Teheran* embassy fiasco / trying* to rebuild /embarrassing* run from Kabul
I have always loved this move!
Movie is quite moving in parts. Highway's at the end of his career, probably got no idea what to do outside the corps, got relationship issues and yet he's as motivated and proud as ever. Great character.
You couldn't take care of a wet dream,...God loves you, I know that!🤣🤣🤣
Still one of my favourite movies ever
Gunnery Sergeant Highway has the Terrifying Presence Perk equipped
I think I've seen this movie ten times over the years.
So many great leadership lessons....
So Gunny Highway has been in at least 24 years, has a Medal of Honor, and is only a Gunny? This dude done fucked up. I bet he’s been every rank in the Marine Corps up to Gunny twice and you know what? He doesn’t give a fuck.
Cheesy.... and... Wonderful
I lived in the states and friend of mine gave me this movie on video tape ❤
You couldn’t take care of a wet dream
Who can do that to a stick?
That’s the best scene in this great movie.
Na the bar scene is "I'll send ya home with a I just pumped the neighbors cat look on your face"😅
Brings back lots of memories!
Best of The Absolute BEST!!!!
Mario Van Peebles was great in this movie! The Ayatolah of Rock and Rola!!
When I was in the Marine Corps the Gunnys were so much worse.
And they didn't call your rack a "bunk."
I remember we had one that would grab us by our collars and drag us around. It never bothered us though. It was the Corps after all.
What kind of brainwashed bullshit are you two morons spewing forth?
I was in Jan 83 to Jan 87, and no gunny or staff sergeant ever pulled shit like that.
This was one Clint's best!! His only other movie that might have as many memorable quotes is Gran Torino.
Gran torino is kind of like end stop for highway
Jones looks like he's bout to cry
My dad was a master sergeant in the army... Vietnam and Korea veteran...every morning before school was like this For me...
Enough said😉
Great film. Teach this in schools instead of the junk.
You means show this in film class as an example for a silly action flick?
You are in the USMC. Everything you need will be provided to you by the USMC. If it does not say USMC on it.
You do not need it.
God this scene always cracks me up lol.
I like that the two Mexicans were just down with it from day one. I served with a bunch of Hispanics. Solid dudes. RIP Ramon Mora 22 May 2011
I’ve always thought the same thing watching this movie over the years. The Hispanic guys I served with were just like those two guys, squared away, deeply patriotic.
Great movie have seen it least 10 times or more
Clint Eastwood must have improved most of his lines in this scene, so great.
