She wasn't experiencing psychosis. A psychotic episode involves hallucinations or clinical delusions (fixed beliefs that are obviously false, and the person experiencing them can't be talked out of them despite strong evidence of the contrary), I say clinical because I don't mean the colloquial sense of calling someone delusional. My best guess would be that the character was experience a personality disorder or just traumatized by her upbringing.
She was borderline like the Glenn Close character in Fatal Attraction. Abused as a child herself most likely and acting out the same scenarios on Ben.
On a different subject, that is a gorgeous location for a wedding!

Christ...Stella was a right nasty piece of work, but Sophie Thompson was outstanding in the role she played!! Must’ve been so emotionally draining to act out such an intense and very hard hitting storyline 😢. She’s incredible.
I found this scene quite hard to watch. If Kathy was around for this she would've personally nailed Stella to a cross!!!
Pauly B I think that personally the writers should have kept Stella alive so that she would be dealt the consequences of her wicked actions! Peggy would have gave her what for and like you said, Kathy would probably have made her life a misery.
@@Christine_1985 I also agree! I also think that the writers should've remade the aftermath of Stella's death:
A mysterious stranger (Kathy) phones Phil when she comes across newspaper headlines about Stella's abuse. Phil has been disappearing for the past couple of weeks since Stella's death to personally meet that stranger. Phil initially forbids Kathy from returning, but feeling guilty over Stella, Phil changes his mind and agrees to help Kathy.

As Kathy waits in the Arches to get cash from Phil, Peggy goes into the Arches looking for Phil but runs into Kathy. A disgusted Peggy slaps Kathy across the face and berates her for choosing a man and money over her sons but Phil enters and explains to Peggy why he's disappeared since Stella's death, ordering Kathy to leave. Kathy, breaking down after seeing Ian (Ian doesn't see her) in the cafe, decides to go to the police station to end it once and for all! Once Kathy get's charged and bailed, she phone's Phil, who in turn decides to tell Ian.
I must admit, sophie thompson played stella extremely well!! A great actress! But in eastenders she was such a BITCH!!! poor ben, when i watched this when it was on tv, i clapped for ben when he confessed!! :)
