The biggest reason I'd choose the OnePlus 6 over S9 is because of the software. The Galaxy S9 has too many unnecessary features and bloatware. As for all the pros the S9 has, most of the pros I don't really care for:
Wireless charging? I don't use it.
Water resistant? OnePlus is too, just not officially (also I'm not near water with my phone).
Sound? I use headphones 9/10 times.
Screen? I'm okay with a less better screen.
Camera? I rarely use it and even if I do, I can't differentiate the differences of the cameras.
Notch is ugly? I can just hide it with the software.
Expandable storage? I mostly use cloud and 64GB is more than enough for someone who rarely takes pictures and don't use too many apps.
The good thing about android is the variety of phones for your own personal needs. Will be getting the OnePlus 6.

    • @Infinit3Enigma
      @Infinit3Enigma 6 років тому +4

Marty S oh for sure, my s7 edge was the exynos model, it matched the 835 of the s8. The 845 is amazing cause adreno gpu is awesome.
I wish i could multi quote on mobile but yes, it had stereo speakers, akg headphones, USB-C host, better camera, etc etc. But i didnt wanna go on and on. Most of this comments on battery life or about the camera slowmo is not fully accurate. S9 960fps mode actually has some cool uses even for engineering or scientific experiments. I prefer samsungs game launcher cause it has a built in screen recorder. I wouldn't mind having op6 for just rooting because tbh as Google updates android, the selinux is ruining so many things for people who use termux or run containers. Op6 is a nice phone, but its not better than s9 and depending on region it is not half the price of an s9/s9+

Samsung Pay was one of my biggest reasons to go with an S9 instead of my original plans of getting a OP6 or Pixel 2 XL. The nice camera and gorgeous screen are just nice add-ons.

There is Googlepay, the App Locker and up to 256GB of storage in the OP6. I like the S9+ but i think these 3 things arent really an argument for Samsung.
I've got both phones an my favourite is de OP6 couse it feels more smooth in handling.

    • @idlebrain4073

Sascha Trapp You probably didn't read that I said " Personal Preference". Regarding Google pay unfortunately my country doesn't have so much support for it on other hand Samsung pay has hence "Personal Preference"
Same goes for secure folder and SD card.

I have a OnePlus 6. It can never kill S9+.
    USB 3.1
    Card Slot.
    IP68.
    QHD display.
    Dual Aperture Camera.
Telephoto lens instead for a Bokeh.
    Barometer.
    Iris Scanner.
    960fps slow mo.
    Always on display.
    Samsung Pay.
    Stereo Speakers.
    Heart rate sensor
    Dual Edge display.
    No ugly notch

      1. Yes thats a point for the S9
      2. No Card Slot needed. 128 GB are more than enough. And you can have 256.
      3. Dont go swimming with your phone! But the OP6 is warter resistent too. Just not official.
      4. Dont need it. Full HD is enough.
      5. Yeah better low light performence for the S9. But just take pictures by light if you want good pictures.
      6. Why do you need a Barometer?
      7. Unnessesary
      8. 960 fps for 0.1 seconds.... You know that this is just shit? You often miss something. OP6 can record with 480fps a whole minute! Thats 16 minutes im slowmotion! You will never miss something. And the difference between 960fps and 480fps are not that big as you might think. Just play the 480fps video with 15 fps instead of 30 fps and you habe the same speed as the 960fps video of the galaxy s9. That little is the difference!
      9. Ok? If you need it?
      10. I dont care about samsung pay.
      11. One speaker is enough for me. If i want really good quality i use headphones or a bluetooth box.
      12. Fitness junky? Just use your finger and count and watch a timer.
      13. Its very very ugly!!!
      14. Its not ugly and usefull and you can hide it if you want ;)
This is how I see it.
And than there are the pros of the OP6 like much cheaper and no useless bloadware.
Yes the S9 is better in some points. And maybe it is better in some points but just for you. Other people might dont like these points.
      I always take a oneplus 6 over the s9.

    • @RandomUser-fl3zo
      @RandomUser-fl3zo 6 років тому +27

      Jonathan Lange
this is borderline idiotic. Don't take pics in low light? Really? When I go out to a club or a rave the s9 turns out fantastic photos. Simply love it.
128 is not enough when recording in 4 k. Plus it's amazingly useful to pop out the card and plug it into your PC.
0.2 seconds of slow mo is incredibly cool. Been playing with it for a while now. Doesn't get old. The auto mode when used properly works just fine to capture the action.
The phone will survive a dip in water. That's a biggy. I go to the beach, I don't have to worry about sand or water getting in. When the phone is dirty I just wash it with running water.
Dual speakers are pretty usefull. I use my phone as a speaker when showering , works great. Also loud enough when showing a video in a noisy room . The fact that the earpiece gets so loud is very convenient when you want to hear something in a very noisy environment.
Samsung pay get accepted pretty much anywhere. Can't live without it. Cashiers face when it works is always priceless.
I use the Iris scanner all the time when my hands are dirty.
QHD display is a must for the VR googles. Can't believe some idiots don't get that yet.
How the hell is the notch useful on the one plus? Hahah. At least on the iPhone it houses the advanced camera system.

    • @jonathanlange1339
      @jonathanlange1339 6 років тому +15

Ok. 960fps slow motion is cool. But for me its useless if it has such a short duration.
I prefer half the speed but 300-600 times longer duration.
And you can just plug your Phone in your PC. SD Cards are often slow.
Also the Oneplus is water and dust resistent too.

No way One Plus phone will kill the flagship phones from Samsung,Huawei and Google. Its true that One Plus phones are worthy every penny but not in the same league as the Galaxies and Pixels and Huawei P and Mate series.

    • @Lycosa
      @Lycosa 6 років тому +10

I personally think the Oneplus 6 isn't a flagship killer. However if you're a person who has been getting flagship phones for the past few years and don't use all of their features but don't want to compromise on user experience then the Oneplus 6 would be a fine all around choice.

As a oneplus user, I think S9 maybe the better phone right now. But in the long run, choosing an oneplus is a good choice. My 2.5 years oneplus 3T still rececives Android update timely so I can get and experience new Android features and better power management. The updates are so important that makes me feel that I am using the newly released phone. Besides, my 3T is still working as smooth as the time I bought it. Samsung, on the contrary, is very cautious about updating software for their phones.

No regret, The OP6 is a awesome phone, especially if you have a lower budget and want good specs and more updates. Fortnuately there are more options out there. If you want good specs and camera look at the Huawei mate 20 (lite). This one is also cheaper! But if you can afford it and want a better overall experience and one of the best cameras and a lot of extra features, The s9 / s9+ is a better option. If you want a phone with the best camera out there and frequent updates, the Huawei p20 pro or mate 20 pro is a better option.

The only thing i like on the one plus is the software, except that s9 plus just brutally murdered one plus as it has-
    1 better design
    2 no notch
    3 Dual speakers
    4 Better camera
5 Better display (actually the best in class)
    6 Fast wireless charging
    7 Sd card support
8 ip 68 water and dust resistance
And yeah i know there is a huge price diffrence between the two but i am talking about which one is better.
Just saying that s9 has a huge upper hand against the one plus 6.

OnePlus has the better display... several videos have mentioned that the S9+ has a fluorescent hue that gives the whites a bluish tint. Since most content runs at 1080p there's no point in having a 1440p display considering how bad 1080p looks upscaled on a 1440p display. Also it is water resistant, it just doesn't have a official rating. The single speaker does get annoying at times, but the OnePlus is the better phone being much better optimized with more ram. Even the older 5T with the snapdragon 835 is faster than the 845 S9+ LoL. The S9's stock launcher and optimization is trash.

It really depends on the market. Here the S9+ starts at 999€ while OP6 goes for 519€. So unless you find a really good deal or order from some other country, you have to pay double the price. Carrier deals are not a thing here either so you're on your own finding a bargain.

    • @Lycosa
      @Lycosa 6 років тому +9

Yeah it's close to half the price if you compare SGS9+ 64GB to OP6 entry lvl model. Almost double price, but it does bring some nice benefits. It's always like that, you have to pay up if you want the premium flagship but the OnePlus phones are awesome and you can save money by buying one.
I went for the SGS9+ 64GB Midnight Black, 999€. I upgraded from OnePlus 3 64GB Soft Gold. So been there, done that. I was satisfied with the 1+ and it's a great phone, my mom still uses it. But I was tempted and had to go with the Best (at least TOP 3) android phone out right now. Best display, TOP 2/3 Camera. Wireless Charging. Comes with AKG Earbuds headphones, free wireless charger (campaign offer), 1440p 6.2'' screen, Dolby Atmos+Audio tweaking settings.
But yeah that's how it goes. The world's your oyster. I considered between OP6 vs SGS9(+) but I had to go with the SGS9+. Maybe next time OnePlus again? Who knows. I'll take a look at the phone market in 2020-2022

At the end of the day, if you want the best camera that a phone can offer, waterproofing and stereo speakers, wireless (quick? not really quick but still) charging, and somewhat decent customer service for repairs, go for the GS9+.
If you are a bit strapped for cash and you don't mind wireless charging, good speakers and a camera, than the One Plus is a solid choice.

    Better device?
With the same panel as the previous years? With no wireless charging? With notch? With no sd card? No IP resistant? No stereo speakers? Definitely worst cameras? I can't tell how on earth you see the bokeh effect on OP is better!! It's ridiculous, look at the edges compared to S9's one!!

Now with respect to the S9+, the OP6 isn't even in the same league and the price difference is definitely not $300 - $400. It's about $300 at the most, while there's a bunch of discounts plus you can exchange your S8 and get the S9 for $600.

YouAlreadyKnowWhoItIs Well, it's little too do with inflation to have 20%+ year on year price increases. Now they're completely dominating sales, they can charge whatever price they want again. A few years back, they had a duopoly in market share in the Western market and doing the same thing, getting away with as smaller an iteration as they could get away with and charging whatever they wanted. Then a few market disrupters came in and shook things up. With the virtual ban on Chinese OEMs in the USA, its given them the impetus to bend their customers over once more.

An 8gb/128gb Unlocked OnePlus 6 is $579.99 on OnePlus's website. That's a $310 difference for a slightly better camera in low light, a higher resolution screen which you can't even see the difference and an extra speaker and a few gimmicks but a slower phone and slow Android updates. I have the 8+ so I know what I am talking about. The +6 is noticeably faster, in everything.
as for the rest, the cameras are about even, the 8+ has better colors, but the +6 has more detail. So it depends which you like better.
Build quality is even, and theres been a tare down of the +6, it has all the inter parts to protect it from dust and water. They just didnt bother to get it certified to keep the cost down.
The display is sharper on the 8+ but thats because One+ decided to opt for the 18:9 ratio in 1080 due to battery consumption, and I suppose price is a factor as well. TBH, not much of a difference when you use either in normal every day use, both look great.

Hardware wise OnePlus has glass back "to give the device more premium feel" yet it doesn't have wireless charging nor stereo speakers. A lot of people in the comments are pointing out how much better the Samsung is, and I think they missed the point. The point of the whole comparison is that the OnePlus 6 gets about as close as you can to being as good as some of the best, most expensive phones on the market while being between 200-500$ cheaper. Is the S9 a better phone? Objectively yes, but what else did you expect considering it costs significantly more, of course it's gonna have some upgrades in some regards. The OnePlus however is objectively more bang for your buck, and I think that's the real point of this comparison.

The FD variant is a tie in the storage and specifically Singapore (seriously) now only sells the 128GB as the minimum on the S9+, as the 64GB variant is no longer sold here, probably due to huge intrest in larger storage while still not burning a big hole in our pockets.

These comparisons need to stop. I give credit to Oneplus for selling a phone with a Snapdragon 845 at a mid range price and packing it with RAM (most of it probably not used anyways)...but that is really where the similarities end. Oneplus still plays catch up in the camera to the other flagships. Compared to actual flagships, it lacks features like an IP-rating for dust/water resistance; stereo speakers; microSD expansion; decent customer support and high resolution/HDR display.
Sticking a Snapdragon 845 in a phone DOES NOT make it a flagship.

Selling points for me. QHD screen, Superamoled still best looking screens. Wireless charge, 4K, slomo, expandable memory. No other android phone is pumping those specs.

I bought the S8+ for below 500 € three months ago. I got a phone that doesn't have to step back behind the S9+ in most features like cam, speed, battery, display etc. for half its price. No need to buy iPhones or any other overpriced or low quality phones.

  • @j.m.4444

Nearly half the price??? You are stuck in March 2018. With the price drops the last few month, you pay for the s9+ barely more than 150$ over the OnePlus.

You're so right ! I thought the same way and chose Oneplus 6 ! Subsidized phones come with worse data plans so OP 6 provided a way to escape this trap and still own a flagship.

The S9+ has a better design; an infinitely superior display; a much better camera; and just offers more overall, with an equally good performance. The S9+ kills the so called flagship killer in almost every possible way. And no, Samsung's Iris Scanner works well most of the time, it's not unreliable at all!
    Leave it to Jaime Rivera...

Jaime, there was so much times that you said "doh the GALAXY S9+ has support, or wins, or has better" that the OP6 for me is a beautiful beast that I would like to have as a #2..
I had the S, S2, S5, S7edge, and now the S9+, the build, camera and the display are the three things that keep me locked on the S series, but also all the other novelity in each one that I upgrade are what I espect..
Will see the S10 what will bring, but if the past is anything to teach me, I'll go for the S11, not the OP8..

A very good comparison and a fair result indeed. I did alot of research, read various reviews and decided OnePlus 6 was the better phone for me, regardless of the price.
The only thing from the S9 I'll miss on the OnePlus is the lag after 6 months. That's about it. Everyone talks about the advantages of samsung yet they aren't dealbreakers at all.
    Samsung pay? Don't use it.
    Stereo speakers? Have excellent headphones.
IP68? Splash proof good enough for me, i don't shower with my phone.
Better display? Unless you're comparing them side by side, not really a problem.
Micro SD? There's already ample storage for me in the phone.
The only thing where the S9 wins is the Camera in low light. That's all. Why should i pay 300$ more for it? With oneplus i get faster updates, better software, faster performance, cheaper price, better battery life, better video stabilization, faster charging.

For the price, Oneplus 6 is really a good bargain. Flagship for the wise. Performance wise it is a really awesome phone, no lag, good camera, great gaming, my only drawback is only the single mono bottom speaker. Other qualities are great and unmatched

Interesting comparison, Jaime. I'd pick the regular S9 which I can get for the same price as a OnePlus 6 - not only is the price compelling, but I prefer a smaller phone and likely won't use the telephoto camera (I share your opinion that a wide-angle lens is more useful)

I don't know if it is just your phone, my phone or the actual difference of Snapdragon vs. Exynos, but I seem to get your usage at full resolution with typically 30-40% of battery left with my UK 128GB S9+ model.

I recently purchased the S9+. I would have purchased the Oneplus 6 if not for the lack of expandable storage. I am a music freak and I have to have my SD card for this reason. I will say though. Now that I've heard how good the steroids speakers are on the S9+, I am in love. I also have an HTC U11 and have been a fan of HTC since the M7. So, that's my answer. I could not go without the sound and expandable storage of the S9+!

In Portugal the oneplus 6 costs the same as the regular s9, 520€ vs 550€. Oneplus 6 seems like a very good phone but loses its appeal when the flagships its trying to undercut sell for almost the same price. In the 500€ to 600€ pricepoint i can get an s9, mate 10 pro, lg v30, note 8 (sometimes) P20, s8+ or htc u11. And for more agressive competition we get xz premium, S8, mi mix 2s or honor 10 for little over 400€. I now some are 2017 flagships but they still offer more than the oneplus 6. If people want fast hardware with simple software, then by all means get the 6, now saying its a "superior" device is wrong and misleading. I think reviewers "confuse" their subjectivity with plain objectivity, because objectivily speaking the s9 is the superior device. Just my 2 cents. 😎
