  • Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy,
Whose trust, ever childlike, no cares can destroy,
Be there at our waking, and give us, we pray,
Your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day.
Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith,
Whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe,
Be there at our labours, and give us, we pray,
Your strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day.
Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace,
Your hands swift to welcome, your arms to embrace,
Be there at our homing, and give us, we pray,
Your love in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day.
Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm,
Whose voice is contentment, whose presence is balm,
Be there at our sleeping, and give us, we pray,
Your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day.
Text: Jan Struther, 1901-1953, from Enlarged Songs of Praise 1931 (Oxford University Press)
    Tune: SLANE (Gaelic)
Harmony: Erik Routley, (c) 1975 Hope Publishing Co.

Love the "Slane" hymn tune and the hymn "Lord Of All Hopefulness". First, learnt this hymn tune at the parish I grew up in our Music Director/Organist taught to us sung too a different song text "Make Us True Servants" that was in our monthly missaletes at the time.

I haven't sung it to those words, Robert! I just looked them up and they're lovely -- will have to keep that in mind!

@@KimTMmusic Yes!! The song "Make Us True Servants" is a beautiful Christian text that speaks of reaching out and helping others. It ties in with this coming weekend's gospel reading. Of loving God with all our Heart, and loving our neighbors.
When planning music for Sunday Mass I try to match want we sing as our Entrance/Opening Hymn to the message of the gospel reading. In choosing music from "Glory & Praise Second Edition Hymnal" if, one wanted to begin with a chant sounding opening hymn that speaks about loving God and loving others. One could use #644 "Where Charity And Love Prevail". One could also use the communion hymn #514 "That There May Be Bread" as an opening hymn this Sunday verses three and four match the gospel reading.
Two traditional hymns that would work well this weekend at the Preparation Of The Gifts and Closing is #639 "There's A Wideness In God's Mercy". In the responsorial psalm this Sunday it speaks of the greatness of God's mercy. In the second reading it speaks about the peace that comes through the blood of Jesus shed on the cross. In the first verse of this hymn it speaks of the redemption that comes from the blood that was shed. At the end of the third verse it speaks about healing through the blood.
The second reading speaks about the "church'" and Christ being the head of it. The hymn #573 "The Church's One Foundation" sings about the church and about Christ's blood.
In the tradition of the Catholic Church each month was dedicated to a certain devotion. May honored the Blessed Mother, June honored the Sacred Heart Of Jesus, July honored the blood of Jesus that was shed for our salvation. So, it's a good thing to sing hymns in July that speaks about the blood of Christ it connects us with our tradition.

@@robertgorton3856 this is very similar to the process I use to plan and program music for the Mass! I also like a combination of more traditional/chant-based and more modern. We did “Christ, You are the Fullness” for our offertory/preparation of the gifts hymn this week as it so beautifully conveyed the text of the second reading.

Love this tune Kim! Perhaps you could try doing the hymn “Be Thou My Vision”. It has the same tune as the hymn you played.
