I've been making & using these candles for a cpl yrs now and I really enjoy them! You can add essential oils too🤗. Make sure ya use a lid, especially in the summer lol... This kept our tent warm during a winter camping trip in the snow, I was pretty amazed! I put my tealights in old bread/ round cake pans, then put it all in an XL cooking pot for extra safety. We didn't have to use the gas heater at all and we're quite cozy... It be a good add to your cars emergency kit this time of year too!🕯
They didnt give you more shortening, you are comparing ounces (weight) with ounces (volume). If it was water, with a specific gravity of 1.0 they work out the same, but shortening has a specific gravity of about .75, so you get more volume per weight
Love this idea! Learned how to keep warm and make lights with household items. And I might even make my own candles with some essential oils to see how that turn out. 🕯️ ❤
How about letting them air cool and just freeze the candles? A frozen candle would solidify the veg oil around it wouldn't it? It would take the guess work out of refrigerator cooling.
I am setting this system up as I write...My concern/question is this...Won't the shortening melt again inside the clay pot, allowing the candle to fall to one side?
Make sure that you do not pack your wick tight if you are using a forever wick. Too tight and it will burn the tip of the wick and only burn for a few hours.
Thank you for this helpful video. I’m just curious as to why you didn’t explain the metal crook you have in your picture. Do you think a metal bucket with a hole in the bottom would conduct more heat than a clay pot?
I need a heater for exactly this reason! To heat my small greenhouse. Its 10x20x7.5 (just a plastic on off amazon). Does this actually work to keep the green house warm? I have a space heater in there right now but my husband says I cant keep it connected to an extention cord for too long. Does it work? How many do you need in your green house? I want to protect my plants! There are some that cant be replaced!❤❤❤
🤔 thinking that if you run a dripping in the tub as they say and putting this setup near the water 💧 pipe it should be able to keep the pipes from freezing 🥶 and bursting 🤔⁉️
It's best to make the candles before a power outage and store them in a cool location, or in the refrigerator, to keep the shortening from melting. Then you have them available and ready for use during an emergency. But if you are wondering how to melt the shortening during a power outage, you could place the glass measuring cup with hardened shortening on top of the warm terracota heater and allow the heat from a burning candle to melt it. This might take some time, but eventually you could make candles during a power outage if necessary.
I think he did it that way to get it out of the way so that he could come back to hours and hours later to it hours later to show you how much oil had been used since putting it under the pot and lighting it.

i've watched 2 of these ever so slow vids and neither one did you ever show the vent on the pot and if it worked😡 EVEN this BOTH vids showed that vent in the advertisements .... wont watch anymore. def won't sub.

Awesome thanks for that information.

Thanks. Adding essential oil is a great idea. But just fyi the vegetable shortening candles I made didn’t have any scent at all.
I just bought some pumpkin essential oil, so seasonally on time and it has a fatty smell to it would probably pare well with Criso 😅
Wonder if you can set a small pan of water on top of flat top plate or coffee pot ?
You didn't mention what candles you used or a link to them on Amazon, Great video.
Really? Amazon link? Lol
Those were Mainstay tall taper candles.
Couple $$$$ - ( I bought some last year)
Dollar Tree has them also.

I was thinking the freezer as well
You have a really good show but the music is playing against your words. No music is needed when discussing such a serious topic.🙂
Agreed music should come on only when you see what he's doing then when speak off
I am setting this system up as I write...My concern/question is this...Won't the shortening melt again inside the clay pot, allowing the candle to fall to one side?
It won’t fall just because 1 candle won’t be enough to melt the jar…maybe if a thicker wick was placed in there 😃
I'm not sure but the last time I check key rises it will burn equal
Can you add a scent to this to add some fragrance ?
Make sure that you do not pack your wick tight if you are using a forever wick. Too tight and it will burn the tip of the wick and only burn for a few hours.
😮how find the right size on pots and what size is the vent

Nice thanks so much
You’re welcome
Thanks for watching 😃
Why do you have to cut the candle? Won’t it just burn down to the shortening? Plus add more burn time to the entire process.
Stacking several more flat clay bottoms on top of the pot will conduct more heat.
Great idea. Thanks for the tip 😃
❤ great video
Hi, thanks for
One more time... How long do I leave them in the refrigerator?
A couple of hours should be okay 😃
Hi how long does the birthday candles last thanks
Ooh wow how lovely
Thanks 😃
This 13 minute video could have literally taken 3 minutes.

This may work better buried but not covered in bucket or barrel of sand, using sand as a heat sink.
I’m going to try that. I have a bag of playground sand and it should work for this purpose.
You didn't mention the temperature per space that it kept warm. Also why do you show the metal coverings if you are not going to use them?
The content is informative; however, the music is distracting.
Do you think this would be enough to keep pipes from freezing?
in a small confined area ,such as a well house.
🤔 thinking that if you run a dripping in the tub as they say and putting this setup near the water 💧 pipe it should be able to keep the pipes from freezing 🥶 and bursting 🤔⁉️
You should try it with lard.
Great idea… I may do a video on that thanks
Can we using this candle for lightning in a bunker, is this giving a dangerous gas in to room?
I don’t think it would give off fumes as it’s cooking oil. The better question might be if it uses your oxygen…you may need to crack the door.
Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to just use a wick instead of an actual candle ?
Not to mention the opportunity to use different gauge wicks fatter for more heat, skinnier for longer burn
You could use a wick, but they put off some smoke, the candle doesn't, I have both, I like the candle a lot more.
8mins in & still showing us How To fill a jar !!!!!
Couldn’t you use cooking oil from a restaurant just like they do for making fuel for a Diesel engine??
yeah, if you like having your abode smell like French fries
When the power goes out how can you melt the lard?;

Just think this guy has a house and a greenhouse instead of being in the local shelter
why place in fire place where the flu draws heat up the chimney? Seems self defeating

Rite on
seems 4 could last you all winter
Only if winter is 4 weeks long.
It will also give off CO2 to help the plants grow faster
Keep area your’re using the ventilated.

music is so annoying - sorry
Get rid of that stupid music
Putting a candle inside a flower pot doesn't produce any more heat than if you don't use any flower pot at all.
So annoying how you repeat the same thing over an over.. we heard you hurry tf up
lol thanks for watching still. There are billions of videos and you still decide to watch this despite all that. Have a great day
@@don_wynn yeah hoping i would learn something.. i didnt learn shit lol

You are taking to much time talking over and over about Oz who cares just show people how it's done where,so your common sense at
Could definitely have been streamlined. Watching at 1.5X speed helps.
