This keeps getting better. Love this ya yas version, Love Mick Taylor guitar work, Love you for showing us how to play it, Love everything today... Thank you Mr James
Cheers Pete- I know, I'm not the fastest out of the gate with these lessons am I! I'm always working on 2-3 at the same time you see. Also I choose songs I can't play mostly so it takes some time to tab them and learn them 😅 What type of songs do you like learning / playing normally?
Thanks 🙏 about to record the 'Sway' slide part. Seeing if I can get away without putting the backing together. Surely the standalone guitar is good enough? 😅
Thank U ! I did miss the part "tune the high e-string down to d" at first view (I am not an native English speaker and myxbee wa distracted) , after that it did make more sense 🙂
I used to play this in standard tuning. It’s only when I listening closely and made the TAB that I realised you need to de-tune the first string - otherwise you can’t play the start of the second solo! Anyway…hope you get these solos down. They are super satisfying to play.
Was thinking about that, but most stones parts seem to be well represented on the tube 🤔 Wanted to do 'Sway' but thought there was enough instruction already up. Any suggestions?
Hi James, is that the Beggars banquet version? Mick only played on get yer yayas version as far as I know- but without slide. Keith played some slide on the album cut. Is that the one you mean?
@@JeremyJames_studio midnight Rambler is on let it bleed isn't it? Yea I'm not sure who played the slide on it always just thought it would have been Mick but yea. I can play the main riff and a wee bit of the solo but just always loved the slide on it
Hi Mark, was that the link in the description? This one? www.jeremys.studio/lessons-tab Can you let me know if it's not working? It should be beside the video on desktop and below them on mobile...😅
This is fantastic ... thanks! Wonder if you have listened to his slide solo for this song on Ladies & Gentlemen? It is also ranks up there for the "best" but he does some very subtle things that are difficult (I find) to capture.
@@rwinter069 A treat! That second solo flies! The first one more held back...makes me more certain that the get yer yayas version was the 355 not the Les Paul. That first string is a tad light, you can hear him struggling with it a touch - kind of holding him back don't you think? When the slide comes off though...Taylor at his best. Effortless! Some nice licks in there, do you get them all down?
@@JeremyJames_studio Yes the second solo (non-slide) is another example of economy and taste. I've tabbed out the slide solo, now need to break it into pieces and spend some time with it to get it into my fingers. As for 335 VS Les Paul, pretty sure it's Les Paul all the way.
Hey Jeremy, I noticed this was posted a year ago, sorry for being late to the party. But, like Mick Taylor, you are a virtuoso, remarkable! Great job. I will study and learn this as it is one of the GREATEST blues rock solos ever captured live, too bad the movie (Gimme Shelter) doesn't show Mick's work! There is a bit of film from 'Ladies & Gents' movie that shows Mick playing the solo, but in that one he doesn't use a slide. Interesting. Myself, no good with slide (practice makes perfect - sometimes), so I'll try it with and without, using your tabs! Thanks and great great job. Thank you so much for explaining and demonstrating...now the greedy part (haha) any chance you can do a lesson on Mick's solo for 'Sympathy for the Devil' (Ya Ya's version)? I thought I saw it on your channel but can't find it now...hat's off to you, GREAT JOB! You made my day, thank you!
Thanks for all the kind words my friend, much appreciated! It really is a desert island solo this one isn’t it. After reading your message I had get yer ya-yas playing, and that ‘sympathy’ solo is another on the bucket list. I try and do mostly slide on the channel but one day I shall learn that part! And when I do I’ll post a video for sure (prepping for a video is about the best way to really learn something) Another one is that solo of Stray cat blues, or even the outro on midnight rambler. Also while I’m listing lol, MT’s guitar work on winter is pretty special. Anyway such a great player - thanks again for the note. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to email me on the website address would should be linked something or other! Cheers, Jeremy
Hey mate, no not really - I don’t ever get the string action gauge out. I find I’ll bring up the action to where notes don’t fret out so slightly higher than normal is fine. A thicker gauge helps generally. I’m pretty lazy with setups - so if i adjust the truss rod on a guitar and put too much bow in, which sometimes happens if i switch out strings to 12s with the extra tension on the neck….i just leave the super high action as is. There are a couple of guitars I have that are almost impossible to play without a slide, ridiculous action, but I just leave em as is. I don’t like guitars to be to easy to play, there should be a bit of ‘fight’ there if you know what I mean. By the way I’m into offset guitars at the moment. Infatuated you might say! They are all I’m playing at the moment.
Hi - could have been open G but based on the solo I’d say the 5th string was a. There’s a part in the second solo that is easier that way. Are you sure mick played the Les Paul for these concerts? I was fairly sure it was the 335 🤔
@@JeremyJames_studioIt‘s the Les Paul with the Bigsby MT bought from KR when he was in the Blues Breakers KR plays it on Honky Tonk Woman in the movie and there are photos of MT playing slide on it The rest of the time he played an SG KR played a number of guitars including a 355, black LP Custom, Dan Armstrong plexi And once again, very nice playing. I like to mess around with that solo but I play slide with my fingers' so it ends up sounding different
Yeah I do, you kind of have to - as you've found out. Low action especially with 10s is super hard, if not impossible. I aim for medium to high action but not so high that I can't comfortably play without a slide. What string gauge are you using? On Gibsons like the guitar in the video it's quite easy to give the action a lift using the screws under the bridge...
Thanks, think I’m going to set up my SG Jr with 11’s and make it slide only. I also saw a little thingy that goes under the strings at the nut to raise the strings higher off the nut Either way, it requires a proper setup

I always thought this was the most beautiful solo. Its felt in the guts.
Me too, it’s my number one slide solo - always has been!

Spot on . Thanks.
Beautiful playing. Sounds just like Mick!
🙏
Love Get yer ya ya's out and this song but the acoustic Delta Blues version of this song beautiful and unbeatable!!!!!
Would love to disagree with you Robert, but I can’t!!
Came with the second round of Robert Johnson recordings released in England around '68 and The Stones were just blown away by it!!!!!
Beautifully played , and good lesson
